David Griffin: “you can (gain an advantage) with analytics. ...(do) we have the ability to (meaningfully)translate the data? ... (D)ata is only as good as the quality of questions asked. That requires the right people crunching numbers (and) the right people communicating them.”

What would u most like to disappear in so-called NBA analysis in 2022? I'll start with one of mine (more to follow): " He is one of only 4 age 26 bench players since 1997 to have a 23/8/9 stat line in a Thurs night road game vs an opponent in 6th place in the opposite conference"

BI is very saddened by the passing of Walter Davis. Davis, AKA "The Greyhound" Davis was a 6X NBA All-Star, a 2X All-NBA 2nd Team member, and the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1978. He also had one of THE smoothest jumpers you'd ever see. The Suns retired his number in 1994.

"most expect the Kings to trade out of #4 for a ready-made player with the focus on... reaching the play-in" (from Scott Agness) This makes no sense for SAC: they could then luck into the playoffs, lose in the 1st round & miss out on the likely historically powerful 2023 lottery

Two-part question: why have a ranking system that has Ben Simmons as 228th best defender in the league (28th among PGs, between Wanamaker & Burke) and why embarrass yourselves by publishing it? Giannis at 123? Dort at 128? The more you look, the more you scratch your head.

QOTD (from Darvin Ham): "We don't have time for...people being in their feelings. We're trying to turn this thing around. For one person to be in their feelings about when and where and how they should be in the game, I don't have any time for that." #DarvinHam #Lakers

@TheKendallBaker How about this one?: the only coaches who survived their teams finishing last in the league in defensive rating since 2011-12 are Luke Walton (Lakers, 2016-17) and Luke Walton (Kings, 2020-21).

Since 2015-16 season, only one coach whose team finished last in the league in defensive rating survived to return the following season: Luke Walton (Lakers), last in 16-17. Can he defy the odds again after this season’s last place finish?

@Ben_Dowsett 125 made is the minimum to qualify. When Calderon set the record of .981, he made 151 in 68 games played. If Malcolm plays in all the remaining Bucks' games & maintains his average # of FTs made per game, he will have 156 for the season (2.0 made per game in 78 played).

From ESPN: OKC's win in Cleveland improved their record to 4-0 against the CLE, TOR, GSW, and HOU. OKC is the only team in the league that is undefeated against those four teams, and they have beaten them by a combined 63 points.

Over his last six games, Lillard is averaging 48.8 points, 10.2 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game. If he were averaging another 2.8 boards & say 35 fewer ppg, then everyone would recognize and acknowledge how other-worldly well he is playing.

Prolly too much to wish for - but wouldn't it be cool if MVP voters cast their ballots for who they think has brought the most value to a team instead of letting oddball stat combos, lifetime awards, voter fatigue or other such narratives prevail?
