Something else I want to mention is that I heavily suspect the high assyrian Hasakah outlier to be originally a migrant from Mardin or Mhallmiye, same with the outlier from Deir ez Zor being a migrant from the cities on the upper euphrates in Anbar in Iraq

@MMohamed48106 Among arabs those who speak Qeltu in north Iraq like Mosul and urban Tikrit will be the only ones to have high amounts of assyrian autosomal. Some areas in the upper euphrates and central iraq are also high in mesopotamian ancestry but not exactly same as assyrian.

Note that the Kosewi Mardelli arab speaking Ali Khans of Rajdiye are different from the Kurmanji Kurdish speaking Alikans who inhabit the Mardin Batman Sirnak area and have a result on R1a-Z2124.

Canaanites extended all across the levantine coast (including hebrews), and the Phoenicians were the ones who existed approximately in the area of lebanon. So Phoenicians are cannanites but not all canaanites are Phoenician.

Those Sirq samples are likely from basra after comparing them to many other iraqis I got, and shouldn't be used as a reference for south iraqis as basra is very cosmopolitan with several different profiles

According to my friend in midyat, a lot of assyrian families from there can trace their roots to diyarbakir for example.

@tripoli187 My syrian grandma came here as a kid in the 1950s when adib shishkali bombed the druze in As-Suwayda. My mhallami grandma was born in lebanon in the 50s too and grandpa came earlier in the 40s, and they were some of the first to get leb citizenship.

@tripoli187 Yeah unfortunately we are infamous for the mafia clans in germany haha, but on the bright side germans have done a lot of research on our history when it was lacking beforehand. A lot of mhallamis moved to sweden and denmark too, but I don't think anywhere else in huge numbers.

Phoenicia works because it relatively fits modern lebanon geographically, and is the biggest levantine component lebs have ancestry from. I feel a levantine identity just invites the ssnp idiots or syrian claims.

@amani90___ Like the majority of middle eastern daggers one side of the handle is plain held against the body and the other is decorated to be shown off (this is done to save cost). Most majdalis have circular protrusion in the middle to prevent the dagger from slipping from the hand.

It started among aramiac tribes of central syria and spread to Mesopotamia, and from there it spread to the rest of the middle east through the assyrian empire. Phoenicians started adopting it and gradually their tongue went exitinct.

To me it seems modern assyrians are the same base population but lost the levant shift.

@RobPutrus From the roman/byzantine era osroene mardin samples, 3 are Mesopotamian with a levantine shift 1 is very armenian and 2 are levant shifted Mesopotamian mixed with armenian. From ottoman mardin one sample is very assyrian and the other has a lot of armenian.

@amani90___ The handle is made by melding bone and cow horn together, and it's sealed at both ends by a copper cap to prevent it from shattering in use. The handle is usually inserted with semi-precious green and red stones (like lebanese daggers), older ones are generally more plain looking

@Beiwe Though over time there was intermarriage with kurds (like my great grandma) or arabs from nearby areas in syria/iraq or turkey, since both are muslim, and some mhallami villages started speaking kurdish recently.
