@bigmoodenergy The illegal part may have been allowing (presumably illegal) images to be shown in public in Ireland. Like the portal operator maybe in violation of Irish law.

@curious_founder @TheEconomist So, can I just connect a giant resistor to the grid and then offer to disconnect it during peak times and make a ton of money?

Stunning news- Collapsed stretch of I-95 to reopen within 2 weeks, Pennsylvania governor says. Initial projection was months, even up to 6 months.

So glad we're lighting money on fire by building an elevated railroad through a farm field.

284 pre-cast girders have been placed at the Hanford Viaduct. Ironworkers have also been tying rebar for the deck and walls. Over the last few months, concrete has been placed for the diaphragms, which provide bracing for girders set between each span of columns. #BuildHSR

Why do New Yorkers think they live in the only city on earth? People do this kind of thing in every city. It’s a cool feature of humans, not a cool feature of NYC.

my favorite new york social code is when a lone person needs to get a stroller up the subway stairs. nearly instantly, a stranger picks up the other end of the stroller, helps carry it up, then departs as quickly as they appeared. no words are exchanged. eye contact is minimal.

@dfwfoodiegeek Technically, no. However, no one is independently tracking hours so there is often pressure to stay longer even if it breaks the cap.

Ok that’s it. Look, Morocco isn’t perfect (in many ways!), but when a low income country can routinely do these things that a ~17x richer country can’t, that’s a big wake up call.

The CTA has completely destroyed my bus line over the last two decades. They used to run 250 buses a day with 10min service w/ 5m at peak, now they run 150 with 15m svc, and end 30m earlier. This is the *scheduled* runs, not even accounting for all the ghost buses. A 40% cut.

Student housing built by a 150-year old public university on land they already own is not one of the biggest tools of gentrification.

i actually dont support "we should build student housing" when "student housing" is one of the biggest tools of gentrification (actual meaning!) in recent years in any university city. i support building affordable rent controlled housing for ppl from an area !!

This is unironically what happens when your transit system goes in the shitter for a few years. People buy cars, move, change habits.

Red and Green would be setting off alarm bells at any functioning agency. Blue, Brown, and Yellow being like this for almost half a decade means our public transit system is DYING dying.

Yesterday, the CTA L lines ran: 99% Pink 97% Orange 93% Green 88% Red 79% Purple 75% Blue 68% Brown 58% Yellow ... of scheduled trains. Since 2020, CTA L Service has been cut by 18%. Riders deserve frequent and reliable transit, with return to at least pre-2020 levels.
