some other buildings designed by victor charn: - motorola radio factory at augusta & kilbourn (still there) - nalco office and lab in clearing (refaced, then demolished in the 90s) - cushing blue print paper co., karlov & parker (demolished for a parking lot in ~2016)

it doesn't get the same attention as the neighborhoods demolished for the highways—a nice, well-used park is at least an asset for human beings—but Oz Park was quietly such a nasty bit of urban renewal; that sanborn map is from 1950!

1. Lander's Restaurant / Miller's Pub, Chicago. Alfred Alschuler Inc., 1937 (Lander's facade). It's hard to believe, but Miller's Pub (est. 1935) has only been in this location since 1989. Nifty streamline moderne, Lander's Restaurant opened in the Hartman Building in 1937.

1. Formal Garden, Humboldt Park, Chicago. Jens Jensen, ~1907. ~1940 postcard/2021 photo. Jensen’s least favorite work, he called Humboldt Park’s sunken formal garden “a folly of my youth” - and that was before decades of neglect filled in the pool and ripped up the flower beds.
