Navigating the SEND system. To protect the anonymity of my children, some details in posts may be altered, but issues are genuine and views strictly my own.
I am happy to debate and discuss issues with people who disagree with me. However to safeguard my wellbeing, there are things that will likely prompt a block:
-calls for death penalty
-use of ableist or racists slurs
-relying on insults to try and make your point
Thanks

@Lucy_Webster_
Many people on PIP do work.
In many cases the PIP actually helps them *get* to work (helping with additional travel costs, if they can’t drive, for example). Or a TENS machine so they can manage pain during a day at work.
@DavidBlakeman13
If it wouldn’t destroy the country, I’d love to see Reform win and see how Farage desperately tries to spin the fact that he can’t deliver anything he’s promised.
But the harm this would do to the country would be irreparable.
@StrayCatAgain
@Lucy_Webster_
But claiming disability benefits has nothing to do with whether or not a person works. And how do you know the people running marathons aren’t in work?
If your husband claimed PIP, you know how dehumanising the process is.
@mattzarb
Nothing wrong with a 16yr old with no experience being on the same wage as a 21yr old with no experience. Comparing to a 21yr old with 5yrs experience is disingenuous
@DrFrancesRyan
Any assisted dying system (which I am theoretically in favour of) needs to have the most stringent safety constraints to ensure there is no coerced decision made.
@copeman_chris
What???
My kids were given a “treasure hunt” to start to learn the layout of the school, and a taster science lesson where they got to use Bunsen Burners. Then spent a decent time with their tutor groups. They both loved their transition days.
@BGatesIsaPyscho
Stop it.
Whatever the background, the reason we don’t know anything is that they are still investigating and the attacker is under 18.
The circumstances will come out. But all the speculation leads to more distress for the families, as well as the ugly rioting of last night
@SimonFoxWriter
You mean they actually give both sides an equal opportunity?
BBC especially gets accused of being left wing by conservative supporters and right wing by labour supporters. Sounds like they’re actually doing it right, then….
@Mikey1732
No - Tories broke Britain. Everything we are seeing is still the effect of 14yrs of Tory.
It will be tough to put right but, given time, Labour has a chance of getting there
@TeachandProsper
@naomicfisher
It’s the state of fear that then puts a child into fight or flight. The OP didn’t say the child was put in detention for finding work hard. She said he just couldn’t function with the constant threat of detention.
@BladeoftheS
I had a zero hour contract (or bank staff contract) for many years. I worked in Uni holidays and then, once I’d finished Uni, worked flexibly around some travelling.
I accrued annual leave pay.
It suited me down to the ground.
@WayneGb88
a) all I’ve see are reform postal voters
b) postal vote is available to all. They may be shift workers, lorry drivers, away at uni, carers, on holiday, doing something else
c) what business is it of yours?
@GDarton28708
@JackieD86388657
CPS decides on the basis of the evidence presented by the police. If there was evidence presented, they would have charged him.
@SandyofSuffolk
I suspect they have plenty of plans in place. No, a new town won’t be built overnight, but this Cabinet have been building their strategy for months. They know they need to be seen to take swift action. I’m looking forward to it.
@KateStewart22
@EssexPR
It’s democracy.
And far more valid than taking a very close result on a vague advisory referendum as a mandate to take us completely out of the EU.
@rajmasudforhad
@reformparty_uk
Not everyone who supports Reform is racist.
Not everyone who supports Reform is gullible.
But many racist and gullible people find themselves drawn to Reform, and the Company really needs to address why that is.
@RogersHistory
It’s a shame Ofsted judgements aren’t more about what a school does best - “nurturing”, “high achieving”, “consistent”, “inclusive”…. And any “improvement notice” only where a school is failing across the board or there are significant safeguarding concerns.
@MelJStride
@ONS
My goodness, every minister is truly working overtime on public opinion spin - burying all the criticisms and trying to show what an amazing job your party has done.
Almost like your election campaigning without an election having been announced.
@i_iratus
I suspect the duel factors of how soon he is turning 18, and that his correct name was now circulating widely on social media meant the judge didn’t feel harm would be done to justice.
The precedent that rioters can force such a step, though, is worrying
@prg2345
NO THEY ARE NOT.
They are going to process their asylum applications. Part of this will include vetting who they are.
The amnesty is because Tories passed a law to say anyone arriving by boat couldn’t apply so they could send them to Rwanda without considering their claim
@Guiness_Pig
When I was at school, the fire bell rang. Teacher got increasingly frustrated at us pointing this out and refused to let us leave as there wasn’t a drill due. He stormed off to find out more, and came back sheepishly telling us to leave.
There had been a bomb threat.
The place set alight last night was Citizens Advice, Sunderland. Its manager this morning told me they’re devastated and now trying to figure out how to help the people they were supposed to see
#sunderland
@sophielouisecc
So far they have
-scrapped Rwanda 🎉
-put the Tory plans to free up some prison space into action, and
-worked to try and rebuild some of the diplomatic relationships the Tories destroyed.
Along with taking action in many other areas.
What did the Tories do in the last 14yrs?
@SussexHenryVIII

She clearly said she had to recover from the surgery before she was fit enough to start chemotherapy. It was obviously major surgery (not the routine matter initially announced).

30 years ago was the 1990s.
So kids in school were born late 70’s and 80’s. I was fully vaccinated and boosters were definitely given. Chicken pox vaccine isn’t a “thing” in UK so can’t comment.
HPV wasn’t out, but everyone got BCG.

Never ever been to a wedding where there was an open bar.
We paid for wine with the meal and champagne for the toast, but otherwise bar was available for people to buy drinks. Common practice.
@bphillipsonMP
@educationgovuk
Please know that, in previous years, both of my children passed their SATs, despite one having DLD (Developmental Language Disorder). But a) the thought of taking them overshadowed much of Yr 6 and, b) all this really taught them was how to pass the tests.
@RealBasedBrit
@Jenny_1884
It sounds like you shouldn’t work in SEND.
I worked in SEND for years, and a great many parents jumped through hoop after hoop trying to get their children’s needs met.
@theGrit_music
@AngelaRayner
I’ve seen a couple.
It’s disgusting, really. Yes, she used the wrong word…. But the meaning was clear, and it didn’t change the message.
Content matters more than presentation.
@tombennett71
I have seen no mention of “123 eyes on me” - just forced eye contact. “Eyes on me” can include looking at the person’s shoulder or knee.
No one said colourful corridors make children behave. But they surely make them feel more comfortable and welcome.
@bethanyusher
@ExcludedMugwump
It absolutely needs to be. Conservatives have made so many people lose faith in government as a whole. Starmer needs to prioritise MP conduct and the Asylum process ASAP. If he can do that, Labour could well be in power for the long haul.

Seldom saw anyone in a wheelchair because the they either died, were shipped off to a sanitarium, or stuck at home unable to go anywhere.

When I was 16 I was being paid 60% of the rate that adults were being paid to do the exact same job. As I’d been doing the job as a volunteer for 2yrs, I was more experienced than some of the better paid adults.
@OliverRMills
What is the point here?
The child was punished by school. The fault lies with the police who took no action because it happened in school. There is no law that says police cannot get involved in crimes that occur within a school building.
@mummyblade1
@MichaelRosenYes
@Heaton_73
PIP doesn’t stop when you are in work. Many people on PIP work (for many people it enables them to work). Stop misrepresenting the reality.
@_Janey_Jay
@MailOnline
Except that people who actually knew the family are describing them as a nice family.
Rather than people who have their own narrative to maintain
@dunstablian
Even Farage has admitted they can’t win, and that actually their “manifesto” is simply a bunch of things they will campaign (so they don’t actually need to be feasible).
@Miss_Snuffy
They are using puppets to promote acceptance of differences.
They are NOT promoting the furry lifestyle.
It’s a general message of tolerance and understanding. Barry (who is a puppet dog) doesn’t even say he feels like a cat, he just enjoys doing some cat-like activities.
@darrengrimes_
It should be a still photo…. What he’s saying is irrelevant. He bears some of the responsibility for today’s mess, as he started the rot with his project to pull us out of the EU.
@Jenny_1884
But I thought it was only the streets of London that has a knife crime problem?
Surely the Mayor of London’s influence doesn’t reach to Bournemouth, and he’s solely responsible for the level of knife crime.
@EssexPR
There is a difference between appointing an expert to the House of Lords to join the cabinet and appointing a sibling for no valid reason.
I had no objection to Cameron joining the cabinet. I think Starmer’s appointments are inspired.
@MartinSLewis
There can be no justification for paying it to people on high retirement incomes.
But Pension credit etc is setting it too low. Those just above the PC threshold will be in significant difficulties.
@alan_tinsly

@YvetteCooperMP
She didn’t take sides.
She acknowledged the footage was distressing and confirmed that a full investigation was taking place and she would be kept up to date.

If cyclists have to pay road tax, so should car drivers, surely? At the minute they pay vehicle tax (rated according to how polluting they are).
@Ferretgrove
I could quite easily walk past an abortion clinic praying and no one (but God) would know. If it is being done in such a way that bystanders know people are “silently praying”, it is being done to intimidate, not to pray.
@TomGeorgeMEN
@MENnewsdesk
How dare these non-“English men” come to our country and volunteer to repair the damage rightfully caused by true patriots?!?!?!! (sarcasm, btw -
I would hope that was obvious but in current times you can never tell!)
@Pietros1
@darrengrimes_
This is nothing to do with Labour’s handling of immigration in the last 3.5 weeks.
It’s the hate that’s been spewed all over Twitter, flamed by certain commentators trying to score political points and it’s disgraceful
@GlynisSpencer
@darrengrimes_
Legally they are perfectly entitled to claim asylum when they get here.
They only have to cross illegally because there IS NO LEGAL WAY TO CLAIM ASYLUM BEFORE ARRIVING.
@teamsquarepeg
I’ve run PE kits and musical instruments to school for my kids.
They do run the risk of me not being able to if I had work meetings, but fortunately that hasn’t happened. If it did, they’d know I had no choice.
They’re also getting better at remembering.
@Paul1Singh
@DavidGHFrost
This is the point. As a Christian, I could quite easily pray as I walked through a safe space near a clinic. It would only be obvious if I were doing it in a way that intimidated women attending the clinic.
Prayer should not be used as a weapon to shame or intimidate.
@GrassrootReform
@TiceRichard
Evidence? Not just Lord Sugar claiming it….
My brother is far more productive on his 4 days working from home than his one in the office.
@jon_hutchinson_
I would do the same in your shoes…. Especially if the Tory candidate was a good constituency MP. It’s not like him retaining his seat will make a real difference to the overall Conservative losses.
@SteelWeasel_
@NadiaWhittomeMP
No - 5 times more likely to be convicted is not the same as 5 times more likely to commit.
And the statistic is completely irrelevant to this tragic story.
@ToonDazza
@UKLabour
What about Buddhists, or Jews, or Hindus? Would you require everyone to be Christian? Or would you accept Atheists?
Or is this just Islamophobia?
@BarristerSecret
A large number of the people of Fareham would vote for a paper bag if it was representing Conservatives. And the tactical voting sites couldn’t agree on who was best placed to challenge.
@Dan42655873
@MrsRieB
And, even if there is a bell, this can often trigger and intercom (pretty useless to someone who is deaf).
Also, an autistic person travelling alone probably wants to know exactly how to access the actual building they are visiting, rather than relying on the uncertain “most”.
@i_iratus
@furious76114
I (most recently vaccinated in 2006) am still recovering from Pertussis. It’s been awful. I’ve barely left the house for a month, because I am so exhausted and any exertion prompts a coughing fit.
It’s led to me spending far too much time on here too!
@davidt1947
@PaulKirkby3
Postal votes are added to in person votes before counting begins. They are not counted separately. And Mosques don’t deliver post. 🙄

I was 100% breastfeeding and got my period back within 6 weeks.
You may be advised not to have sex, but not all women are in safe relationships - if the question is asked of all, they reach those at risk.
@RogersHistory
But that doesn’t mean those teaching 1-30 can’t learn more about the impact school systems can have on a child from the person working 1:1.
@DeputyGrocott
All have been impacted- early years through to graduates.
Though I think now Covid is just being blamed for deeper issues - it’s had an impact, yes, but it’s really just exacerbated other stressors.
@benleo444
Did you read the tweets coming out of CCHQ et al over the election campaign? They read like they were 14yr olds in the playground. So, yes, the grown ups are back in charge. Hopefully Starmer can return some integrity to parliament.
@MrsHJT_
When my kids left nursery/preschool they had a little leavers session to say goodbye. No ceremony, no graduation - just an end of year session for leavers. It was lovely.
@SandyofSuffolk
I’ve made a new-government resolution. To maintain my sanity, anyone who can’t engage with a different opinion without resorting to sarcasm, mockery or insults is getting blocked. I’ll give you the opportunity to read the reply before you’re gone.
@DrHoenderkamp
So you’re advocating 1000’s of people apply for school places they have no intention of taking just to disrupt the new government who is trying to address the 💩 they’ve been left? The only people to suffer through that will be other children genuinely seeking school places.
@drchrisnewton
The new government hasn’t even done anything yet and there’s nothing but right wing scorn being posted.
Labour didn’t stoop to the childish election campaign, and they’re assembling a grown up cabinet. Time for everyone else to grow up
@SpeakNoEvil153
@implausibleblog
@IainDale
Would you rather those children who have done their own “research” talked to your 9yr old about sex?
Schools aren’t teaching explicit sex instruction - it’s literally information about consent, relationships and, later, the basic biology of sex and childbirth .
