Has anyone got illness just lingering within them? Not full on being Ill but just there in the background. I’ve got a slight sore throat, tender glands and heavy head, couple of ulcers in my mouth. Don’t feel Ill but not at full steam.
Dear
@Keir_Starmer
, I know you’re rather popular right now, but if you could just make Monday a bank holiday, then you might just become a legend ⚽️🏴
Reading about ‘Summer catch-up’ for children. I tell you what, if they’re allowed to, the summer catch-up that they need is going to the beach, playing with their friends and generally having a bit of normality. That’s the catch up that should be funded.
Yay! It’s Mission complete! Penny Elizabeth Grocott was born at 4:45am this morning weighing 7lb 10oz! Our family is complete! Mother and baby are doing fantastically! 💕💕💕
We had a child fall over in a sports day race this week. Another child who was running ahead, stopped, turned around and came to check how the fallen child was. He then went on to complete his race. This for me, is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen at a sports day.
Does anyone else take fruit to school for their lunch during December and regularly bring the same bit of fruit back and forward from home to school? This week, it’s a Pink Lady for me.
Had one of my TAs say to me today that she has friends who say ‘is that all you’re going to do? Be a TA?’This perception outside of schools that anyone can be a TA needs to change. TAs are absolute diamonds! So highly skilled! Let’s celebrate how wonderful they are!
#TAsareawesome
Tomorrow: let them talk, make them laugh, have some fun. Let children be children. Listen to them more than ever. These are the last days of having your ‘team’ together for a while. We will miss them, they will miss us, they will miss their friends. We will all miss each other.
Calling all primaries! Retweet & like if you agree that sign language should be accepted as a ‘language’ to be taught in primary school curric. MFL in primaries is a mixed bag & I think high schools don’t always find this helpful.Let’s call for BSL to be in the NC as a language.
Teachers teach because they care. That is all. Why would they bother to get a degree and choose teaching for any other reason? It’s not the whiteboard pens or the photocopiers or the laminator machines. It’s because they care. That’s it.
Ahhh I miss those hazy lockdown school days when the schools were closed and we all headed to the staffroom for shots, all happy knowing that we were safe from catching COVID as long as we stayed on site.
Teachers are great. They can teach all day, have parents’ evening until 8pm and then just over 12 hours later be back in front of 30 pupils teaching them again. They will probably mark the books and sort out lesson resources between 8pm and 8am sometime too!
Out of the blue this morning, while walking down to the cinema with my class, one boy turns to me and says, ‘Thanks for this year,’ and walked on.
4 words, that’s all it was. He’ll never know how much that means to me 🥲
Do you know what, I don’t easily get annoyed, but hearing a politician patronising teachers by saying that we will intervene if children fall behind has really peed me off!
What the hell do they actually think we do?!
What next: mechanics will intervene if your car breaks?
Shall we all avoid the whole ‘let’s write about what you’ve done over the last 6 months’ recount thing when we get back? For some children it could be very traumatic.
An idea:In honour of Sir Tom Moore, schools (or even us on Edutwitter) could do a socially distanced sponsored century (nice ring to it eh?) where you do ‘100’ something:could be ‘100’ laps around the playground,100 press ups,100 minutes of dance. Basically a century of something.

Tip of the hour:Don’t lose sight of the fact that children are children. They’ve not been on the planet long and they will do and will want to do childreny things. It’s easy to get caught up in the intensity of the curriculum.Sometimes it’s ok to spend some minutes being childreny

Live, pre recorded or slides and sheets. You do what’s best for the children in your school and what works best for you as a staff. Let’s not debate what’s better or worse. Remember that we are in this together. Let’s just continue to do the best for our children.

I think we should take a moment and celebrate how amazingly well the children have done this half term. It’s been a really long one. Long by normal standards let alone after nearly 6 months of lockdown. I applaud every single child for how brilliant they’ve been this half term!

If there was ever time (there isn’t!) schools should try this:On a Friday afternoon each teacher plans out an activity,it might be sewing, crafts, painting, sport and the children through the school choose which learning they’d like to do for the afternoon. Mix of ages in each class
Controversial one,but I actually think a classroom decorated well (ie displays, art work etc & not always working walls) can have a really positive impact on chn.Think about it, they spend a big chunk of their day in the classroom. Why not make it an environment that’s inviting?
I get those who say we need to get straight back on it from the 8th but I also think it’s vital that we give the children some time to socialise again. Most of the children won’t have seen their friends for nearly 3 months.Fill your classroom with their voices and laughter.
You know when you see teachers preparing their lunches for the whole week ahead and you are literally cling filming 3 Jacobs crackers ready for tomorrow 😞

You know when you have a TEAMs meeting where you’ve planned to teach a bit of maths & it just turns into a massive ‘pet off’ At one point there were 4 guinea pigs,2 dogs,a rabbit & a cat all on screen.More animals than children. The giggles & laughter made it all worthwhile!
Seeing Adele’s old English teacher join her on stage shows what an impact teachers can have on lives. What was the name of ‘that’ teacher that you will always remember?Mine was Mr Wright. He was my teacher in year 4.Used to randomly play some really funny songs on guitar in lessons

TAs deserve more pay. What makes me sad & angry is that people who are great at their job have to find a 2nd job or even go & work in a different job because the pay of a TA isn’t enough to make ends meet. There’s no way some of these jobs should pay more than a TA! Sort it Sunak

If schools have to open 8-6, something would have to give somewhere. Whether that be no marking or extra PPA during the week. It cannot be expected that teachers finish teaching at 6 and then do what we already do after school now. We are not robots. We have our own lives too.

Have a great day! It’s a sunny one!
Just said to my own children that the prime minister has said that teachers now have to help them with English and Maths if they fall behind.
In unison with a disgusted look on their faces they replied, “but they already do that!”
Out of the mouths of babes
I know I said my baby spam would stop after going back after paternity leave but just one more! Even if it gives one person out there a bit of joy then I’m happy to provide the spam!
Got a child who is having a horrible time at the moment so I contacted Tottenham who have sent a pack of goodies and a letter from the manager. Thank you so much
@SpursOfficial
. I think he’ll love it!
I can wholeheartedly say that there isn’t a teacher out there who doesn’t want to have their wonderful class back sat in front of them learning in the classroom.Nobody trained to be a teacher hoping for the day that a pandemic keeps them away from the classroom for over 2 months.
Just read this on a local school’s website and felt the need to applause:
As Monday is being classed as a 'Snow Day' there is no expectation for you to submit remote learning unless you wish to.
Well done!
Just thinking about some of our families and the fact they are having to use paid for data on their phones to help educate their children or even just contact family members that they may not see for some time.Should phone companies give unlimited data during this time?I think so
Something I’ve noticed: covid lockdowns have had a massive impact on some year groups in terms of the learning of social skills and how friendships ‘work’. A very obvious thing to tweet, I know, but I’m wondering what schools are doing about it.
