Y6 English planning and resources if you're doing Ancient Greece, WW1, Frankenstein, London Eye Mystery and some fun subjunctive bits based on The Day The Crayons Quit! Because sharing is caring!
My wonderful, kind and brilliantly funny Grandad died very peacefully this morning. I just wanted to share this joyful photo of him meeting Matilda again as it always makes me smile!
Guys we're reaching that time of year for "Graduation" ceremonies from Reception to Y1 or Nursery to Reception...I literally loathe them with every fibre of my being. This is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Twas the week before Y6 SATs and all through the land, teachers were wondering if Chen was around...Frantic cramming on angles and how many boxes to tick, what's passive voice and speed up your arithmetic...but this year was different, it was really quite strange...
As music lead, could I get away with teaching KS2 a medley of 90s bangers in singing assembly? N*SYNC into the Spice Girls, leading onto Britney and then some Steps?
£5K incentive in your third year of teaching....but only if you’re secondary?! Hardly fair is it
@DamianHinds
? What about us Primary, early years and nursery teachers?
Y6 teachers - if you need some simple SPaG revision that you can edit and use to target gaps or just weave easily into daily English lessons please take, edit and use these so you don't have to spend ages thinking of how to do it! Give the class 3 mins to complete the Qs!
Saved Y6 transition stuff as a link on my twitter bio because sharing is caring! Feel free to ignore it or change is completely for your band of small people!
Controversial opinion klaxon...I loathe “graduation” ceremonies and all they entail for nurseries, EYFS and any other key stage. They’re so American and tacky!
Today my friend and I discussed our NQT adventures...never before has it become more obvious that supportive mentors/schools make it or break it! She’s leaving her post after one year due to the lack of support :(
Found out a brilliant collective noun during our online pub quiz last night! A group of jelly fish is known as a smuck! Anybody else have a favourite collective noun?
I love our acting head! I felt exhausted and drained after a late staff meeting and awful night sleep - she told me to take my PPA home and relax and do the work whenever I felt like it, not in the allotted few hours. So I went to the gym.
Thank you to everybody for all of your kind messages on the birth of Dexter! Twitter really is an amazing place at times! I am jealous of my son's wardrobe and ability to sleep for 18hrs a day!
Not too shabby a view for a £20 ticket! If you're not moved to tears by the opening of The Lion King on stage then you're not human. It's so breathtakingly beautiful.
Imagine if there was an app that could track your closest ice cream van?! On days like today it would be amazing! Maybe you could even request a stop to ensure they pop close to your house...
Seven months in...zero regrets about leaving the UK! If you're contemplating teaching abroad please do pop me a message if you have any questions...especially if you have a young family!
My husband has gone to do a big food shop...I am slightly terrified about what he will come home with. He has a list but I worry that I havent been specific enough.
Sitting in a cafe in Penang, listening to music from my teenage years whilst doing a little bit of work and pinching myself that I'm living so far from home, doing a job that I have fallen back in love with. 15 year old me would be so proud!
Just created this after being inspired by a resource my headteacher showed me on Facebook! I don’t know if the original poster is on here but if you are thank you!
I asked my class if they would like me to donate to charity instead of buying them a gift. They all asked me to donate to the local food bank. I have hope for the future.
NQT advice that nobody has asked for. Never ever underestimate the power of building relationships with colleagues. Not just teachers, TAs and SLT - office staff, caretakers, cleaners, kitchen staff & SMSAs are so key to life at school and I think some people forget.
Saw the small human today. He is growing away nicely and not the 13lb monster baby of my nightmares! The lovely bloke who did my scan even managed to get a pic of his squishy little face with pouty lips and cute nose!
Trying to make better food choices and this has been my go to breakfast for the past few days! Under 300kcals and 20g protein. What did you have for breakfast....let me live vicariously through you!
To all my Year 6 colleagues up and down the country, I hope you have a restful weekend and know you’ve done absolutely everything you could’ve done for your class! You are all amazing!
I have just battled this gremlin for the last hour. Didn't want bottle, boob, cuddles or to be swaddled...then whacked some disney piano tracks on and he wolfed down a bottle and is now zonked! Babies are so tough!
Today I bought a skirt. It’s a size 8...yes it has a partially elasticated waistband. However, a few years ago, I struggled to fit into a size 16. I’d never dream that a size 8 of anything would fit. So this is my win for April!
Is it rude to put out a PSA to my facebook friends/family? No I haven't had the baby. Only those that need to know will be told. No you can't come over as soon as we are home. If you need to ask where we live, dont worry about it. If you come please bring snacks.
Having a bit of a pregnancy pity party. No antenatal classes, no chance to build up support networks and then the frivolous matters of shopping for baby bits - no crib, no furniture and hardly any clothes. I know its selfish and there are bigger problems in the world but 😞
Anybody else already mentally preparing themselves to eat a school christmas dinner with their class? I dont know what will be worse...liquified brussel sprouts or half chewed food rolling around in opens mouths as they talk to you.
First half term teaching in Malaysia is done! My work/life balance has never been better and I've genuinely never felt happier about going to work! If anybody is thinking about teaching abroad...do it!
Well meaning conversation with a lady in Aldi: Oh you're a teacher! Primary or secondary?
Me: Primary
Her: Oh well at least you wont have as much to do in the holidays!
Me:

I’ve made the decision to not mark my English books this weekend. I’ve looked at each of them during lessons and I’ve decided that they’re fine - they meet the success criteria and also bring in other elements of the TAF. I’m going to go home and relax.

Pregnant for the first time in the midst of Covid and pregnant for the second time as Omicron takes a bloody hold. But it’s ok, it doesn’t spread in schools so business as usual tomorrow!
Just had a Lion Bar. Probably one of the most underrated chocolate bars around.
Tell me your underrated chocolate bars? I know
@LeeBraganza
will have opinions!
Husbands’ cousin and his fiancé are staying over tonight and none of us can face another festive buffet so we’re getting a curry AND a Chinese and I’m buzzing!
Today one of my girls got her practice maths SATs test score back. In September she scored a raw 38 out of whatever it is...today she got 84! I'm so proud of her hard work and diligence!
@myminimaths
has been key! Also plz dont judge practice SATs...Y6 innit.
Sometimes I hate being UKS2 - workload, expectations general school politics. But then you spend an afternoon with your class and it all becomes clear. And then you drive home and freak out again because of the workload and pressure 😩😩😩
