1/ Yup this is pretty much what I do. I mask in all indoor public settings and if I’m outdoors in a crowded setting. I don’t mask at the beach, walking around the neighborhood, or at the gas pump. I outdoor dine and unmask in private hotel rooms or Airbnbs w/o airing them out.
Me at work.
Me at the airport.
Me when I get my hydro-massage.
Me when I'm outside.
I know so many of you mask when you're outside. I typically do not, unless I'm in a crowd. I don't mask on the river, I don't mask in my own airbnb. I mask when I feel it's best for me.
Periodt.
Imagine if all the crunchy mamas got behind mask wearing. A way to keep your kids from getting sick without putting anything into their bodies? In theory they should be all over it.
“Nits bond to the hair shaft and are unlikely to transfer to others”?? “Minimal risk of transmission”?? So we’re just lying at this point?? When my sister was in 3rd grade her class had a SEVERE lice outbreak that originated from a sleepover and spread like wildfire 🧵
Friendly or not so friendly reminder to all my
#COVID
conscious folks that people wearing ear loop masks are NOT the problem. I say this as someone that wears head strap N95s. Anyone wearing any mask at all, EVEN CLOTH MASKS are not the problem cause they’re clearly trying!
Can Trader Joe’s explain why they hate disabled people? I literally can’t shop there due to the fact that they don’t offer curbside pickup, delivery, or instacart.
My Dad’s physical therapist gave him COVID. He was in an N95, she was in a surgical, and she openly admitted she wasn’t feeling well. Last time he got COVID he ended up hospitalized despite being fully up to date on all his vaccines. “Do no harm” stops at staying home when sick🙄
Your “personal risk assessment” becomes a lot less “personal” when you spread the COVID you don’t realize you have yet to immunocompromised populations at the grocery store, the pharmacy, the doctor’s office, and everywhere else you go without a mask.
One of my drs suggested a few times I give up gluten and dairy for 2 weeks and after I finally told her I don’t have the mental capacity for that she lovingly said to me “I’m going to stop asking you that. Your body is in survival mode, you’re not ready for a project like that”
When you say “I mask everywhere just not around my close friends or family members” it sounds like “I wear my seatbelt everywhere just not around my own neighborhood”
I recently had a provider tell me that most cardiologists in one of the major hospital systems in our state are “POTS averse” as in they don’t really believe it’s a real condition and it’s just due to deconditioning and like I’m sorry WHAT?! That’s so dangerous. 😳
Hey parents are you willing to have your child live with the consequences of Long COVID, potentially for the rest of their lives? If the answer is no, you should be sending them to school in a high quality mask.
I was working in my N95 and someone said they couldn’t hear me so I spoke up and then he said “still can’t hear you gotta take off the mask” and then later when I was eating outside alone the same person came over and said “see you’re too pretty to cover up that face” 😵💫😵💫😵💫
@mavisclare
The strategy that’s worked best for me is coming up with a number to get rid of in advance instead of evaluating each item. Forcing myself to get rid of 10 shirts is easier than looking through 50 and asking “should I keep this?” about each one
Your medically vulnerable friends see your posts about going to indoor bars and restaurants, conferences, shows, planes, work, and gyms without masks, and all we see is “that person that claims they care about me is no longer a safe person”
I’m 31 with primary immune deficiency and I’ve had the flu more times in 31 years than pretty much anyone I know. I’ve had it 6 or so times in 31 years. I know multiple people with more than 6 covid infections in less than 5 years. 🫠
I love how people are comparing COVID to the flu as though that makes it better.
Is it normal to catch the flu multiple times per year?
It's not even normal to catch colds multiple times per year. How can anyone think it's normal and ok?
Because it was so bad and hard to get rid of. Kids were being sent home left and right and had to be cleared by the nurse before coming back to class. The school’s diligence mostly contained the outbreak to their class/grade. Imagine if it was a free for all w/o mitigations 😳😳
Should we educate people that are wearing cloth masks and surgical masks about better mask choices? YES absolutely! But anyone wearing a mask is NOT THE PROBLEM. 😷😷😷
She missed 3 weeks of school and every night my mom spent HOURS combing all the nits out of her hair, using medicated shampoos, she even covered her hair in Mayo and plastic wrap at one point to try and get rid of it. Another girl’s mom cut her waist length hair into a pixie cut
Believe it or not, COVID conscious vacations exist. Utilizing multiple mitigation strategies like N95 masks, HEPA filters, nasal sprays, testing, etc. while also going on vacation is absolutely being COVID conscious.
My mom and I recently got our eyebrows shaped and the woman who did it is still requiring masks and asking people to reschedule if they’re sick I was so impressed!!! 😷😷
@emilykmay
When I was a teacher I had a mom drop her child off in my classroom and immediately throw up in our classroom bathroom and that’s how she found out
She told me she would wait for me to bring it up if and when I was ready, even if it was 10 years from now. She said we would work to find other solutions to help me progress and get better that were within my limits.
@hutchleah
They’re definitely not pointless. Pre-COVID when we’d see vulnerable people masking they were wearing surgical masks not N95s/KN95s. COVID is so contagious that respirators are your best option, especially in one way masking scenarios, but surgical masks absolutely aren’t useless
When someone wearing a mask approaches you the correct response if you’re a caring individual is “let me put my mask on” NOT “would you like me to wear a mask?”
I’m not really sure I understand what’s so hard for people to grasp that immunocompromised people (and everyone really) don’t care if your illness is COVID or not. All illnesses are dangerous for us. Stay away if your throat is sore, if you’re coughing, or if you’re congested.
@AsherJacob23060
@WEschenbach
Have you ever met a 3 year old? Wearing gloves and a coat isn’t psychologically normal to them. Which is why they have to be taught to do so.
@yckmiawtm
Yeah which is their version of saying they hate disabled people. I literally don’t have the option of walking into their store a lot of the time.
@BrettSVergara
Nobody was forced to pray with him. And it’s clear that he takes his faith seriously and wants someone that can share that or at least be comfortable with it. Easy way to weed out those that aren’t. Doesn’t want to end up with a Tayshia/Ivan situation.
@cannabisbutch
Yes! I live at the poverty line and I’ve made buying high quality masks a part of my budget the same way I do other essential needs but they are definitely expensive. I’ve found buying in bulk or during “non-surges” is the cheapest way. Also Project N95 has a free mask program ♥️
@nursekelsey
I’d definitely keep isolating to be on the safe side but remember that the tests aren’t designed for stool samples and they can give you a false positive. I’d try and get a second PCR in a few days and keep doing nasal rapid swabs.
@thecovidslayer
Feel free to tell him when I work in person I also work 12 hour days in an N95 around tons of unmasked people and have yet to get COVID
Not a mask in sight at the society of critical care medicine conference during the 2nd highest surge of a BSL-3 pathogen to date? How embarrassing. 😵💫
@MediumSizeMeech
I mean yeah but Dawn is also the gold standard for dish soap and it works so well for cleaning so many things. It’s my go to for stains on clothes. And Dawn PowerWash is pure magic.
@ElaineVigneault
Same. When I’m not in a crash I’ll occasionally go there masked during non-peak hours but during a crash when I can barely leave the house it’s not an option because they’re not accessible.
@greenhousemd
There’s a lot of misinformation around this particular vaccine. It had recently come out when I was a kid and my pro-vaccine mom turned it down for me I think because she was misinformed. I got it on my own as an adult.
@ThePOTSPostman
They don’t see the days when I don’t get out of bed or off the couch. They see me on the good days or the days when I can fake it and look okay even when I’m not. I have more bad days than good days but because they only see the good they don’t believe that.
@graeme_0
@sassyashieOG
While this all sounds great, it’s honestly hard to believe it’s not just to get votes and would all go away if she’s elected, same as Joe Biden’s COVID policies when he was running vs when he actually got into office. I’ve yet to see her mask in public 🫠😔.
@grantsierra1
@iseeuliars
If you are not masking everywhere you go, including work, you are not a safe person for me as a medically vulnerable person to be around. I said what I said.
@DeVerdadera1
Having a fit-tested N95 is an incredible privilege that most people don’t have access to. My Dad wearing an N95 that isn’t fit tested and not wearing goggles wasn’t the problem. The problem was a healthcare worker coming to work sick and only wearing a surgical mask.
✨Hot take✨ but for most people I don’t think so. Dining out, outdoors or indoors, is one of the main ways our society has deemed a socially acceptable way of socializing with others. Restaurants provide public places for people to meet and spend time together w/o extra stress🧵
@jubunnies
Possibly. There’s a lot of variables there but when I coughed for 10 months in the acute phase of my post-viral illness one of the potential theories of doctors was that it wasn’t one illness lasting that long but constant new infections starting before the last one cleared.
@JoannaNoBanana
Give up the “shoulds.” (I should make my bed every day, I should get dressed every day, I should make more meals from scratch, I should exercise more, etc.) If it’s not serving you physically and/or mentally let it go and don’t feel guilty about it.
@ryanobrien
My tweet wasn’t referring to COVID. My tweet was referring to my chronic illness that when it’s bad I can barely get out of bed let alone go to a grocery store and shop.
@ThePOTSPostman
Medical teams. A group of doctors from every specialty that work together to care for the patient as a whole person instead of random specialists taking care of just one part and never talking to anyone else that takes care of the patient.
Hey all you healthcare workers that only wear surgical masks in public? Would you walk into a COVID+ patient’s room with only a surgical mask? No? Cause it’s safe to assume that’s what you’re doing every time you are in a public space with just a blue surgical mask…🙃
@AloeWhale
That’s why hospitalizations for flu, COVID, RSV, and other respiratory viruses are all up right? Cause the viruses even the ones that have been around for centuries are all so weak. Right?
@jamie_weisman
My PCP’s office that knows I have primary immune deficiency assured me that anywhere high risk people get care masks are required. It took everything in me not to ask “So why are masks not required here when I as a high risk person get care here?” 🧐🫠
@slumdogcovfefe
It’s not me “not liking” a store’s policies. When I’m in an ME/CFS crash and can barely leave the house to go to the pharmacy drive thru I literally can’t use their store because it’s not accessible.
@janafalls
Same here, all about the crunchy things that are evidence based. Love highly evidence based naturopath that’s pro-vaxx and my KN95 wearing acupuncturist with an air purifier in her office.
@StroutMotivateU
Oh that one is terrifying. Not only is it abusive to force sick kids to be in school but stomach viruses are already HIGHLY contagious and live on surfaces well, most school toilets don’t have kids and it’ll all be aerosolized and kids are already pretty not great w/ hand washing
@chronicallybeee
I cried so many tears for so many reasons after this interaction. She’s my (VERY evidence-based and VERY science believing) naturopathic doctor. She’s incredible because she listens and believes.
This is your reminder that if you’re stressed about H5N1, all of your current COVID protection strategies will also keep you safe from H5N1. Take a deep breath and repeat that to yourself. ♥️
@JoannaNoBanana
Having 2 phone chargers, 1 next to the bed and 1 next to the couch that are always plugged in so they don’t get lost and I don’t have to spend spoons constantly moving 1 around
When you struggle to do basic tasks like prepare a meal, take a shower, and clean your house because your body has failed you, elimination diets are anything but “easy.” Please refrain from calling anything “easy” for a life that is not yours.
@HugMeredith
Listen, there's tests a dr can do to test for gluten intolerance. I've got no idea if it impacts long covid but if so, see if you can get tested. It's also sort of easy to eliminate one thing for a week or so to see if it helps. I'm not saying it will cure you.
We should actually be encouraging it. Being seen by the general public taking mitigations is key in normalizing them and pushing back against the peer pressure of “nobody masks anymore so I shouldn’t either.”
@BonnieHtx
I called my state health department a few weeks back and asked where to get a PCR test if I didn’t have a PCP and one of their suggestions was literally to go to the ER (just for testing, not because I needed the ER)
@chronicallybeee
My sisters say the same thing about my immune deficiency. They say “I’m super sick all the time too!” And think it’s normal 😵💫 One of them actually just found out she also has an immune deficiency, go figure 😵💫
@AnnaNikolo
@NikkiNikkiTembo
@Ruesavatar
I have PCOS, Hashimoto’s and several other health conditions. I did strict intermittent fasting for 3 months and didn’t lose a single pound. Go off tho.
People aren’t gonna agree with this but I don’t really give a fuck. If you or your kid are coughing at all for any reason (sick, allergies, asthma, lingering cough, etc.) you should be wearing a mask everywhere you go. That’s it. That’s the tweet.
The metformin protocol for preventing long COVID during an active infection is only a 2 week course, people getting short term prescriptions isn’t likely to cause a shortage on a widely available drug
Yall PLEASE do not do metformin like you did those injectable weight loss drugs🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ let the diabetics have their meds and treat your COVID symptoms.
@verygoodchat
I know they sequenced the virus but I’m not fully convinced this is the full picture. As someone pointed out in the replies, how do we know that an unmasked asymptomatic HCW wasn’t working with all the patients involved and gave it to all of them?
