The breakneck speed of Mitra's writing and the wealth of information it conveys, makes one wish for an analytical pause, especially when examining certain moments of Indian politics. And also makes one wonder if 'stealth' captures all that complexity. But a must read overall.

@deepak_malghan @LSRDU I agree. There is very little work on caste & leisure. I can think of Chitra Joshi, Charu Gupta, @UjithraP and Renny Thomas whose work speaks to leisure. But the list for caste & labour is endless. Don't have a paper yet. Let's see how the discussion unfolds. Happy to share that

Partition changed the narrative. With the influx of Punjabi upper-caste capital & social networks in the shoe trade, Jatavs were sidelined as owners. A few persisted, often divesifying to other trades but at the cost of facing discrimination (5/6)

Not to be missed. Kerala HC was actually hearing a petiton to quash an FIR against a man watching porn on his phone. Note the fantastic leap from 'free' availability of porn to food on phones. Watching porn privately is ok, the judge noted. Mothers ordering food is not.
