Great to see the outdoor seating in Dungarvan being well used. Many naysayers said it would be a waste of space in winter, yet here we are in December and there is not a table to be had outside some businesses. Some still think a handful of parking spaces would be better. 🤷‍♂️

The lack of Public Transport in Rural Ireland has long been a problem. Irish governments have been happy to ignore Rural Public Transport while ploughing money into building motorways between and around cities. This is a 🧵 about car dependence in rural communities. 1/11

When I talk about the improved rural bus services the Greens are delivering I often get people commenting that they'll all be empty. This is the Dungarvan to Tallow bus, one of 20 services on that route today. It's far from empty. Provide a good service and people will use it.

“I will never while there is breath in me cooperate with the guards on anything." @MichealMartinTD Is this Councillor still a member of FF? Is this kind of thing considered acceptable by your party?

@gavreilly Don't shoot the messenger, the truth of what the president said is plain to see. This problem has been building for a long time and the interventions being made now will not be felt for years to come. The failures of previous governments have come home to roost for people today.

@ciarancannon @LeoVaradkar I'm from rural Ireland, this does not represent me. FG has been in government for over a decade, tell me, what were you doing instead of developing the alternatives to burning turf?

Sinn Féin talking out of both sides of their mouth as usual. Their elected reps have been voting against the work that needs to be done to reach our climate targets, and then they have the neck to put out stuff like this. They are trying to take people for fools.

Government on a path to certain climate failure - @orourke_darren "Ireland should not be missing emissions targets. We have enviable access to renewable resources. The problem is we have a government that is incapable of delivering on anything."

Road safety isn't the responsibility of children. If Gardaí were more proactive in enforcing the rules of the road, we might have fewer children killed and injured. Handing out hi-vis vests to children is window dressing, not an effective intervention.

It's crucial that we spread the road safety message among children from the very first opportunity. Garda Michelle Doherty called in to see them all in Kincora Kids, Killaloe Co. Clare and brought along some high-vis vests for wearing while out on the road. #SaferRoads

The EPP (Fine Gael) are the worst performers on climate action in Europe, even slightly worse than the hard right. We can't stop climate breakdown in the years ahead if we fail in Europe. If you care a jot for the future of our people, don't vote for the EPP next year.

🚨Ecology is “neither Right-wing nor Left-wing”, really? Today, @BLOOM_FR publishes a groundbreaking ranking of the European political parties’ environmental performance. There are expected trends but also a few surprises. 🧵

@tledger55 @FancyVegasPro It's not over a word alone though is it? He continually disobeyed the board of management to which he was responsible - which resulted in a court order, which he then breached, which is the real reason he will be arrested. His own unprofessional behaviour forced this outcome.

@MichealLehane @rtenews Greens agree not to do something they never intended to do. Reducing the national herd does not require culling the national herd.

We have two great candidates for party leader (so far) in @rodericogorman and @pippa_hackett . Personally I believe a woman from a farming background in rural Ireland is the way we need to go to challenge the false narrative that has been put out about the Greens.

There is another way. Waterford is home to the most successful Local Link service in Ireland, the 363 Tallow - Dungarvan route. There is nothing spectacular about the route, it connects a few small towns - Tallow, Lismore, and Cappoquin, to a medium size town - Dungarvan. 4/11

#EveryVillageEveryHour That is the level of ambition we need for rural public transport in Ireland. We are finally starting to move in the right direction. Since the Greens went into Government we have seen more routes, better frequency, and a surge in passenger numbers. 🧵

I was out canvassing in Clashmore with my uncle Tom today. I got a really positive response with more than a few people promising to vote Green in June. It was Tom's first time canvassing and he's a natural. 🥇
