Absolutely thrilled for work from our teams out today as part of
#PsychENCODE
package:
Grateful to play a part of this collaborative effort to investigate the basis of neuropsychiatric conditions by studying human brains at cellular and molecular levels
All the feels after receiving official notice that I was promoted to Full Professor
@HopkinsMedicine
. I am so grateful to so many people for helping me get here and all the amazing opportunities and resources that I have been afforded
Excited to announce my promotion
@LieberInstitute
to Senior Investigator and take on role of Director of Translational Neuroscience where I will help provide leadership for the Institute's mission in translating molecular mechanisms of brain disorders into clinical advances
I know this is the second week in a row I've posted one of these, but I am just loving these cortical projections to the locus coeruleus 💙🔬🧠

Student choice invites are the best invites 😍
Excited to be on my way to Atlanta to visit Department of Human Genetics, share work from our groups on cell type-specific and spatially-resolved approaches to understand human 🧠 disorders, and visit with trainees!
I am super excited to be on my way to Tokyo 🇯🇵 to visit

I am truly honored to receive this -
@ACNPorg
has been a very important part of my career. Huge thanks to my nominator

Yes, third week in a row, but I'm still obsessed with pics coming off the scope of these LC🔵-projecting neurons in the anterior cingulate so you get one more

I’m going to push back on that. I was violently assaulted at the hotel of an NIH-sponsored conference as a new PI. For many reasons, I didin't discuss this openly-I imagine others act similarly. I think these incidents happen more than we, as a field, collectively acknowledge.

In case you haven't seen it yet, super excited to share our study generating some of the 1st transcriptome scale, spatial maps of the human cortex

I got a new computer and everything is autocorrecting NAc to nachos, and it's driving me nuts. If you get an email or message from me where I am referring to the accumbens as a snack with melted cheese, apologies in advance.
I think that Jason Rehg and
@jmirandab84
might be trolling me and my obsession with these cells at this point. But, they keep outdoing themselves taking just the loveliest images of these LC-projecting ACC neurons. I mean, these are just beautiful 🔬🤩🧠💙
Spending the day
@UCIrvine
at the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping to meet faculty and students and share new work from our groups - thanks for the invite - I am excited to be here 🌴🧠🔬👩🔬!!
Thanks for a great
#ACNP2023
meeting - old friends and new, great science, exciting new collaborations and maybe a little too much fun/too little sleep. Was especially honored to receive the Efron award in person - thanks again to
@ACNPorg
for the honor.
Extremely proud to be able to introduce Dr. Matt Tran, PhD
@mattntran
, and congratulate him on an amazing thesis seminar today. We are all extremely proud of all that you have accomplished and can't wait to see what you do next!
So excited about this that I couldn't wait for

@SvitlanaBach
and RA Yufeng Du for the experiments and images 🧠🤩🔬
Today marks the 11th birthday for my lab 🎉🥳 - hence, one wouldn't think I'd get myself lost on the Homewood campus on a trek over to give a talk for
@HopkinsKavli
. And yet 🙈- sorry for being a few minutes late and my out of breath start from running to find the building :)
We have several open research assistant/associate positions on our extended team (me,
@kr_maynard
,
@CerceoPage
). Projects are generating transcriptome-scale maps in various human 🧠 regions to understand spatial gene expression in neuropsychiatric & neurodevelopmental disorders
After finally moving on after accepting that we couldn't get our neurotrophin work funded - it's hilarious that BDNF and TrkB continue to troll me from yet another unbiased dataset. And even funnier that the lab loves to join in the joke - thanks to
@berniejmulvey
for this one
I am so excited and very proud of
@rodriguez_lion
for unanimous pass on his dissertation defense today. Lionel's thesis has looked at how inputs from basolateral amygdala to the lateral septum regulate BDNF-TrkB signaling in septal neurons to control social behavior.

My mom ran our local planned parenthood when I was a kid. There were threats and slurs, and I sometimes asked why she had to do that job. I remember her explaining why she did it, what was before, and promising that bc of Roe we’d never go back. I can’t believe this is happening.
👋 I’m Keri and I’m excited to be here already for
#ACNP2023
! This is my last meeting as
@npp_journal
Social Media editor - but make sure to say hi to
@MayoOnTheBrain

See you all soon! 😁
I alternate driving this bridge or the harbor tunnel daily. No words, just shocked and sad. Can’t imagine the terror of those on it when this happened.
Ok, I did one too - not as creative as everyone else - presentations from me,

Pair of lower quality embryos from a heartbreaking, failed round of IVF. As someone who used assisted reproductive technology, the Alabama ruling is personally troubling, but the continued march towards limiting women’s rights and autonomy should concern everyone.
Had to share - I am so excited to see these - von Economo neurons in the human dorsal anterior cingulate - just such pretty anatomy - data from project led by
@kinnaryhshah
on analysis and
@SvitlanaBach
on acquisition 🧠🤩
Labeling some really pretty, activated projection neurons in the amygdala - credits to

And found these while digging around - beautiful BDNF+ cells in hippocampus from a whole series of splice variant reporter mouse lines we made that I had nearly forgotten about!

Would be interested in an out years comparison to those that didn't have R00 funding. Speaking with all my biases out here - my canned answer on the TT market was, "Why no, no I do not have a K99, but fear not, I've got a whole lotta spite to get me through the first few years"
The time between a researcher starting an R00 award and receiving a major NIH award/R01 is 4.6-7.4 years, and is significantly longer for women and those who remain at their home institution
Super excited that our paper is out online today! We've added a bunch of new data and analyses since the preprint - links to paper and the GitHub repo with all data and code in below thread from

Grateful for an absolutely beautiful summer day for our annual party, but slightly overwhelmed seeing everyone together to be so lucky to work with such amazing teams with such diverse talents and skills every day ❤️
Please join our team! We have one Research Associate position remaining for a funded project that uses single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to profile cell types in the human brain that contribute to risk for neuropsychiatric disorders.
