Dr D-W brought to you by two attempts at undergrad, being told to 'never pursue a PhD' by my master's advisor, countless minimum wage jobs, & an AuDHD diagnosis.
Also brought to you by brilliant, supportive women, my sweet husband and cat, and having the courage to ask. 🌟

Hi, Jew here! A graphic novel about Nazis, by an artist from a family of Holocaust survivors =/= 'a Nazi comic.' Hope that helps.
@geenawhiteman
I've called alumni, been a research assistant, a tutor, a nanny, volunteered in positions that paid (partial) rent in return, looked after numerous cats and dogs, and worked for two different transcription services. I'm the only one of my cohort that's had to do this.
Protecting trans kids is suicide prevention. To follow some of the incredible work of vocal trans activists in MO, please support

Hi climate law friends -
@Env_Pol
has called for special issues/symposia. I'd love to put together a collection on (the freedom/right to) climate protest and States' attempts to limit this freedom. Perhaps each piece would focus on one State (for me, England & Wales).
@tashakaminsky
The last thing my grandmother said to me, after meeting my boyfriend, was "enjoy it while it lasts." She was on brand until the end. (And now I'm married to someone completely different, of course.)
2022: published my first piece (and secured two more), presented at conferences online and in person, started an associate lecturer position, got to go back to my beloved STL, moved to Germany with the ginger chonk, and finally got married to my best friend 🥰
Thank you to
@IUCN

@uefcceel

@UniEastFinland
for letting me speak about my favorite topic (youth climate justice) and for hosting such a diverse and inspiring week of talks!

Hello!! Today, I presented at
@ABILA_official
’s International Law Weekend on our panel centering Climate Justice. Afterwards, I was told my panel was the only student submission accepted! A truly wonderful weekend.

When I see first gen (hello!), I assume first generation to go to college. It feels like quite the privileged take to use it as first to get a PhD 😅
Received my first book contract today for our edited collection about climate justice. The chapters have been chosen and accepted and we have such an array of fabulous ideas. What a great way to end the week!
Climate justice colleagues - CJ fits excellently into
@ABILA_official
's ILW 2024 theme of 'Powerless Law or Law for the Powerless?' We're now accepting panel proposals and I'd love to see some examining environmental justice.
Hi Twitter friends - I graduate in May and will be looking for remote (or mostly remote) environmental, human rights, or child rights positions - research/policy type jobs etc. for a year whilst studying for the bar. I'm permitted to work in the UK and the US. (1/2)
@Boghuma
@Delta
I’m sick with covid because of this mask lift - didn’t get sick until I had to go through LAX. Maybe 5% of people were masked? (Including myself, of course)
Feels like there couldn't be a better time for
@ProfAoifeDaly

@DinaLupin
to be hosting the 'Children’s rights and the right to a healthy
environment – intersections and opportunities' workshop at
@IISJOnati
! Excited to be taking part.
ECR friends - Emerging Voices is a rare opportunity in int'l law to present at a conference and receive reimbursement for hotel and travel. 500-word abstracts are due June 1!
The call for Emerging Voices abstracts is open! This is a fantastic opportunity for new scholars to present their research at the international law event of the season, gain feedback from experts, and receive funding for travel and hotel expenses.
Hi friends! I've received some wonderful feedback on my thesis and am looking to turn some of the core ideas into a monograph. Which law publishing houses have you had the best experience(s) with? (Int'l enviro & human rights law focus.)
Later this month, I'll be taking part in
@esil_sedi
's Environmental Law Workshop with
@aoifedalylaw
,
@bntmayer
,
@mattiacv
, and Prof Hitomi Kimura on Aug 30th. Last few days to register, hope to see you there! 🌎🌍🌏

"We need to think about vulnerability coupled with solidarity; values of nature together with values of intergenerational and interspecies justice.”
I did poorly at A-level thanks to mental and physical health issues combined with zero support from the school. At uni I had lovely friends, supportive lecturers, and the correct medication - and I achieved a first! That is hardly inexplicable and my story is not uncommon.
This is not inexplicable - it’s called excellent teaching, skilled tutoring and outstanding student support in widening participation universities. There, mystery solved
Delighted to present

+others. Freya talking about new CRC A26! Wish I was in Aix-en-Provence in person, but online also lovely

St Louis police are notoriously violent and aggressive - WashU has learned nothing from Ferguson. I’m so disappointed in my university for allowing this response to peaceful protest.
April 15 is approaching! Send your proposals in soon, we're particularly interested in non-traditional panels, instead embracing more interactive formats like roundtables, fireside chats, practica/simulations, etc.
Thrilled to be moving into a new role next month with
@GNHRECommunity
- I’ll be the Regional Director of North America! The team already has exciting projects lined up so watch this space. 😊🎉
Wrote 7,000 words in 5 days, followed by a day spent on the couch with two heating pads, a hot water bottle, painkillers, and my sweet ginger cat.
Chronic pain is no fun but it's so important to share, destigmatize, and rest. Even in academia! 😴
The first weekly calls for abstracts, papers, and opportunities from
@GnhreCommunity
is now up! If you would like to be included in next week's, please see the post and email us.
Interested in the High Court’s recent ruling against the Secretary of State for BEIS’s carbon budget? I read and summarized the judgment for GNHRE here 🌍
On Friday, the High Court held the UK government’s climate action plan unlawful—“there is not enough evidence that there are sufficient policies in place to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Google ‘Nancy’s Nook’ - it’s a great place to start with resources about endo! As for pain, I know many people have had at least reduced levels of pain.

- it’s 10pm, I have a llama blanket, a scotch & soda, and 17 articles downloaded about loss and damage. Finally being done with the flu = 4 weeks of work needing to be crammed in to 1 🙃
@AnitaYandle
The worst part of being an alum caller is when people said this, but we still had to ask two more times or we'd be fired! I'm sorry we have to pester you. (And that as an int'l student, this was one of the few jobs I was 'entitled' to, but that's a separate matter.)
@IISJOnati

Developed a chest infection right before ESIL 😭 I'll still be presenting online, but I won't be seeing y'all in person. Fingers crossed I'll see ESIL friends in person next year. ♥️
This is the first time in months I've taken Shabbat to do zero work (not even check emails!) and my word, what a treat. Rest really is so important. (photo taken on a snowy walk ❄️☃️)
My visa restricted job options so I was living on $590 a month. Even a slight stipend would have made an unbelievable impact - I was a hungry hunter and believe me, it did not make me the best hunter. What an absolutely absurd take.
@NathanCAGray
@GaRoDean
My honest to take is that postgraduate students aren't employees.
I worry about stipends that are overly generous because in my view a hungry hunter is the best hunter. I also think a lot of this as being driven by reasonable envy of industry linked stem stipends
I want to highlight environmental and human rights conferences, calls for abstracts/papers, and opportunities at
@GnhreCommunity
outside of Europe and North America. Please email us or reply to this tweet if you'd like us to highlight something!
A delayed flight, a v rough landing (nausea ahoy, never seen so many paper bags used), border agents deciding my fingerprints weren't mine, and the cab driver taking me to Manhattan rather than Queens because 'he doesn't do Queens,' I'm eventually here 😴
@kosherqueers
The community! I moved across the world, and within a week I'd found my people. Plus sharing traditions with the ones I love. (And challah, ofc)
(On top of two conference presentations, two book chapters, reading journal submissions, and editing a book, 250 is all I've got in me right now. I also highly recommend adopting a ginger for emotional support.)
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights handed down a landmark decision on Friday, 22 March in La Oroya v Peru. For GNHRE,
@SREnvironment
has published an essay on this judgment and what it means for the right to a healthy environment.

@PhDVoice
hi doctoral friends - how many active projects do you have on the go at any one time? It never feels like enough, yet feels so overwhelming at the same time! (for me rn: thesis, conference presentation to turn in to an article, and visiting scholar applications)
I didn't love cleaning the graffiti from the local Jewish memorial because someone had sprayed 'devils' all over it.
I didn't love when the shul I lived next to had to get the FBI involved because it faced bomb threats.
I don't love that I'm told to keep quiet for my safety.
