Very jarring when people who are typically assumed to be quite socially conscious and fighting inequality fail to acknowledge that other peoples life circumstances might not be just like theirs, and instead just patronise instead. On the verge of burning out at this rate 🤯

Anyone else balancing PhD and work get immense guilt when they prioritise one over the other for a time period? When I’m doing more PhDing, I feel like I’m neglecting my future ‘career’, but when I’m doing more work, I feel like I’ll never be smart enough to finish my PhD 😞

Looking through job adverts for post-PhD jobs and came across a “non-stipendiary research fellowship” at Oxford University. In 2024, how is this acceptable that you are advertising jobs that require a PhD - but do not pay a salary? Academia is really an elites games, isn’t it?

This is why I can’t see a career in academia for myself post-PhD, and will probably go to industry. Moving around every year for 1 year contracts until a rare full time position opens up just isn’t a viable option, nor is it compensated well enough for the instability of it.

Until we fix casualisation, academia will remain a profession for the elite. It doesn't matter how many workshops on diversity & inclusion you run- if staff from all backgrounds can't get reliable hours & income, it means nothing. The system is broken.

After god knows how many times in Sarajevo, I FINALLY made it up to the old bob sled track! Incredible piece of history and beautiful view up the mountain.

This week I started my new job at Liverpool Business School, had an article published with Prishtina Insight, joined a F45 club, went on a nice long hike with my love and celebrated his birthday, & finished off the week with a conference acceptance. Lovely jubbly.

Officially all moved out of Cardiff now, keys handed in and all of that jazz. A month or two of floating between places (and a cheeky few work trips abroad) and then off to Manchester I move 🎉

My anti-vaccine Nan has finally been vaccinated (first jab anyway) today along with my Grandad and I have definitely nearly cried from relief. Only took my Grandad blackmailing her and the Queen and Phillip to have it done for her to agree to it 😂

Nothing like a good walk up a hill and a couple of slides on your ass back down to cheer you up after a bad week (and always nice to be back in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, albeit, up in the north!)

Twitter, please help - can you link me to any projects or organisations based in the UK tackling issues of food poverty and food justice - not just emergency food-banks, but also more longer term / community-led approaches? Any size org/project, I’m working on mapping something!

People hate on those who go for a Christmas Day run but I’ve managed to avoid helping with all the food prep and tidying, AND my parents think I’m some super fit athlete who’s got their life together. Plus I got some peace and quiet - winning!

I met my Dads surgeon on FaceTime after my Dad excitedly explained “my daughters also going to be a Doctor!” and I had to then spend the next five minutes trying to explain “not that kind of doctor… a PhD doctor”

@KatyBenson20 This is so bizarre and cruel, and frankly, puts so much more admin on the executors of this shitty scheme too? Why are you making your own life harder just to exclude children who need your support and kindness?

Had my first automatic driving lesson today after struggling with manual for months and subsequently quitting driving for a bit, and I don’t know why I ever tortured myself with learning manual because automatic is amazing.

In the next 5-10 years, I really do wonder how this weird culture of chronically oversharing everything on social media as a form of ‘content’ is going to play out.
