A truly interdisciplinary effort driven by a (healthy!) obsession with Elinor Ostrom’s work, IR scholarship & our EU knowledge, to show how int organizations avoid the tragedy of the commons. 1/
I met Berlusconi once. I was the only woman in a small RO delegation. Before the meeting, his staff pulled me to the side & said that the presidente has a ‘debolezza’ [EN:weakness]; if he said anything sexist, I shouldn’t take it personally. Protocol 101.
But the worst thing about that experience was Berlusconi’s incessant boasting about his friendship & particularly skying with Putin, complete with photos he kept framed in his office.
The coverage of his legacy in Italy these days is shameful.
Negotiating with Russia over Ukrainian territory isn’t just risky or taboo; it’s a trap. Giving in would shatter Ukraine's sovereignty and bolster Putin’s dictatorship. Are we ready to let unprovoked aggression win? 1/6
@esseakka_lab
@rulajebreal
Yes!! And that’s the major issue. He patented the normalization of the far right. And he exported his model of success outside Italy as well.
The claim that the West pushed Ukraine into NATO, provoking Russia, came up a lot. This is fiction. NATO's 2008 summit didn’t trigger East expansion; key members blocked it, no follow-up.
Russia’s invasion stems from its ambitions, not Western action. 1/3
Negotiating with Russia over Ukrainian territory isn’t just risky or taboo; it’s a trap. Giving in would shatter Ukraine's sovereignty and bolster Putin’s dictatorship. Are we ready to let unprovoked aggression win? 1/6
Accepting Russia's peace terms isn’t a compromise—it's surrender. It hands victory to those who wish to rewrite international law with brute force. NATO’s credibility & deterrence, and Ukraine’s future are on the line. 2/6

There are hypes and then there is the Foreign Minister of Moldova
@nicupopescu
, political scientist turned wartime minister. Impeccable as always. Will be very hard to temper bias in evaluating Moldova’s EU membership prospects after such a welcoming.
Neither liberalism, nor constructivism, nor feminism, nor marxism, not even realism can justify a compromise with Vladimir Putin’s Russia. An extended argument that had to be made, lest we forget Ukraine has no future with Russian troops on its territory ⤵️
None of the major International Relations schools of thought can logically justify an end to the Russo-Ukrainian War that includes even a partial Russian occupation, writes

European political science is mostly built on Western European data. Many scholars are determined to correct that imbalance, which is a source of misunderstanding and incomplete theorizing about European politics.
This latest edited volume contributes to that agenda.⤵️
Professor
@anghel_v1
authored the chapter entitled “Live Fast, Die Young,” which focuses on Romanian coalitions in times of crisis, in a newly published book titled Coalition Politics in Central Eastern Europe.
Read the entire excerpt here:
Don’t fall for the negotiation trap. Russia’s peace terms aren't the path to stability—they’re a ploy to legitimize conquest and undermine international order. We all need real security guarantees, not a dangerous deal. 4/6
Ukraine's resistance isn't about pride—it's about survival. Ceding territory to Russia would only prolong suffering, destabilize Europe & NATO, and force Ukrainians to abandon their freedom and EU path. 3/6
If we let Putin carve up Ukraine, what's next? This isn't just about borders—it's about the future of global security. Negotiating away Ukrainian territory is a lose-lose scenario for everyone. 5/6
The idea of NATO aggressively expanding toward Ukraine ignores the facts. Post-2008, the West didn’t prioritize Eastern enlargement. The US hardly paid any attention to Europe. Blaming anyone but Russia for Ukraine's invasion distorts history. 2/3
How do I know the EU’s East-West divide is still real? Despite my proficiency in the dark practices of post-modernist irony, seeing colleagues comfortable with sharing office space with these eyes still triggers PTSD. 👀

Unlike others in the wrong, Sachs spent time in transitioning East-EU. He should know NATO was reluctant to enlarge. He should know how much the East wanted in. He should know the Eastern flank is safe due to NATO, an option 🇺🇦 never really had.
& ⤵️
Jeffrey Sachs new article: The War in Ukraine Was Provoked.
He claims that the war was provoked by NATO expansion and started in 2022 with the US-sponsored violent coup.
Again all his arguments are false, but they should be taken seriously and must be refuted. 1/
