If Weinberg had done nothing but tell us that there was something wrong with the CC, it would have been enough for the entire cosmology and high-energy physics communities to thank him forever. Will we ever see a paper with the title "The cosmological constant problem is solved"?
🧵If you believe that the properties of the Universe are the same in all directions, I urge you to reconsider. Read our paper, where we claim that
"the Universe is not statistically isotropic.”

Is it too bad that I have zero interest in eclipses? I never understood the hype around them. Why don't we get excited every single time that the sun is covered by clouds? Shouldn't we tell the general public not to care about eclipses, as there is nothing special about them?
We are hiring a postdoc in cosmology for a joint (2+1)-year position at CWRU (

Steven Weinberg, the 1979 Nobel laureate for physics, died today. A delightful companion who loved theater, he could recite the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins by heart, and wrote profoundly about the mysteries of creation. He loved life and left it reluctantly. He’ll be missed.
It is great to have some of the COMPACT (

We conclude that it is extremely unlikely that we just live in a rare realization of a statistically isotropic universe -- it is much more likely that the Universe is statistically anisotropic, i.e., that it has different properties in different directions. (4/4)

2023 was a great year for me: I had wonderful moments, learned a lot, took crucial steps in research, and made amazing new friends. But we all had bad moments too, and we lost many beautiful minds and hearts. May 2024 be filled with love, peace, and joy. Happy New Year, everyone!
I can't believe this, I'm in shock! Nick was my mentor (and friend) in Paris, I learned so much from him! So many memories... he was a truly amazing person 🥲
The first report of the COMPACT Collaboration finds that Cosmic Microwave Background data does not yet rule out the Universe having nontrivial topology, such a twisted 3-torus.

Hey UK gov, I don't know what policies you're following, but it's insulting, infuriating, unfair & inhumane to refuse our parents' visas like this (it's been happening a lot recently). They've applied w/ hope & provided all docs & beyond

A number of “anomalous" features have been observed in the statistical properties of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) on large scales, the so-called CMB large-angle anomalies. (1/4)
Here we closely investigate the correlations between (some of) these anomalies, and estimate the joint probability of them happening by chance in the standard model. (3/4)
We will be hiring a number of PhD students at the IFT (

I've noticed that BBC Science News
@BBCScienceNews
does this all the time, and this specific journalist in particular. I have no idea why they do not change this person or do not ask them to stop! Just embarrassing!
Very misleading headline
The experiment validates general relativity which makes no difference between matter and antimatter
‘The mystery of antimatter’ is the question why there’s so much more matter than antimatter in the Universe
Are current tests of gravity using scalar-tensor theories overly focussed on single-scalar models? Arguably so, despite it being understandable to justify this choice by appealing to Occam’s razor.

Using the Greek alphabet was also quite upsetting -- we use Greek letters every day in Theoretical Physics and each one of them means a lot to us. Some of them, like Lambda for the cosmological constant, are essential parts of our everyday language.

Some people need to hear this: not all scientists (especially PhD students) need to be science communicators. Neither does a (PhD) grant paid from tax money imply they all have the moral duty to explain the lay man what they do.
@MMylova

That is not to say that no work on multiple scalar models has been done (eg

One "issue" with this paper is that it gave the impression that the CCP was (necessarily) a UV problem, as he only talks about the contribution from M_Pl (UV cutoff), but we now know that the CC receives huge contributions from SM masses too, so it may need an IR solution.
