Enjoyed this short book on Quantum Field Theory by @JFdonoghue1033 and Sorbo. In just over 100 pages they cover quite a bit, including a nice discussion of renormalization and EFT. Perfect for my short flight today 😀

Cosmology friends: I just read Lifshitz' 1946 paper on cosmological perturbation theory. It is remarkable how complete it is. (Introduces SVT decomposition, finds solutions for matter and radiation backgrounds, understands gauge modes, etc)

What I really appreciate about Harry Cliff’s book is that it is mostly about exceptionally clear explanations of solid physics. For example, he explains in detail why stars shine, which is more fascinating than whether there is a multiverse or extra dimensions.

Fun fact. If electrons and nuclei had not formed atoms, the cosmic microwave background would still have decoupled from charged matter due to cosmic expansion, albeit delayed by 100s of millions of years compared to the atomic recombination scenario. A-a-nd humans wouldn't exist.
