There really seems to be some sort of mass psychosis about ShotSpotter. It’s a simple technology that’s not very expensive in the scope of the police budget that accurately pinpoints gunfire and is deployed in areas where hundreds and hundreds of Black kids are shot every year.
If you want stores in your neighborhood to stay open and new ones to want to open, create the conditions that attract them. Everything else is theatre.
If you want to know how deeply unserious the Mayor’s transition report is, the 223-page report uses the word “pension” three times, none of which passages concern finances. 1/

More disturbing than the violence itself? Whatever we think the right policy response is, let’s at least have our eyes open to what happened.
@peoplesfabric
He was in fact carrying a loaded gun while out on a gun charge. He’s the reason why we have about 1000 dead young men every year in Chicago, the majority of them Black.

No you can’t, which is why your pay is lower. Your pay reflects your actual outside options, not some fantasy in a tweet.
Chicago crime is neither as bad as outsiders say (“it’s the next Detroit”) nor as good as Pollyannaish insiders claim (“everything is fine, it’s just the media”).

Very hard to advocate for Palestinians in the US when their public face is a brutal terrorist group. Hard to think of a people that have been cursed with worse leadership.
Chicago election Twitter will make a lot more sense over the next 5 weeks if you have a working definition of “fascist”, namely someone who disagrees with the poster on nuanced questions of public safety.

The person who is in denial is you. Voting third party is a wasted vote that you are making solely for your own vanity, not trying to make a difference in the world.
Pretty ironic that after fighting for years for an elected school board (terrible idea, but here we are), the CTU and the current unelected school board are tying to dismantle the selective enrollment system before an elected school board is constituted.

Yes, 66% of *VEP*, which means you can’t apply it to *registered voters*, which are a smaller subset of the vote eligible population. Your calculations are therefore meaningless.

It’s a recipe for missing a lack of fundamental understanding. For one thing, once you get beyond high school, the “show” part (i.e. the proof) *is* the work.
There was a sexual assault at Bartelme in the middle of the afternoon today involving what looked to be a food delivery bike driver and a woman sitting there working on her laptop. For those of you in the RWL Facebook group, his picture is up and he has a very distinctive pack.
The difference between a national endorsement (eg Bernie) and a local endorsement (eg Sawyer) is that the latter has their ear to the local voters and the former just picked his or her ideological comrade.
During press gaggle, Johnson was asked nine times by three diff reporters about whether he would get rid of selective enrollment schools. His responses indicate dissatisfaction with the application process, but not a clear yes or no on what would change
Over the last hour, 10 people have been shot in Chicago & several were children as young as 7 years old. We need leadership to get tough on our streets, it’s been time to hold folks accountable for their recklessness.
Next week the mayor is pushing through another 70 million

I don’t know why you can’t hold two thoughts in your head at once — we can treat trans people with dignity while still protecting female (XX) athletic competition from XY competitors with a biological advantage.

Wage theft is a violation of law that’s harmful and to stop it we need to enforce the laws against it. I have never understood why this is supposed to be some sort of gotcha.
Had to drop a kid off on the West Side this morning. There’s so much lawless, aggressive driving out there. And that’s above a high baseline everywhere.

The average home price probably doesn’t take in to account renters. The question you are pondering requires data on the income of the average home owner, which surely exceeds the average neighborhood resident.
