I still don't understand how buildings can opt out of City bylaws. I understand stratas can allow Airbnb but how are they allowed to bypass the principal residence stipulation? They are actively marketing units on MLS as full-time Airbnbs.

@DailyHiveVan As someone who hosts on Airbnb, I support the changes. Also, Airbnb is trying to build up opposition to the changes. They called me today asking to share my info as someone opposed since I host, but as soon as I said I support the changes, the caller hung up on me.

We're now seeing projects convert from condo to rental buildings. Pre-sales are dead. This is GOOD. Last thing we want to see is spec tax gone and overseas speculation and marketing pick up. BC Rental Project doesn't appear to be looking out for renters.

If they truly believe our homes shouldn't be passive investments for offshore money, they should ban offshore pre-sale marketing/exhibitions/sales-offices. We're the only city that relies on Asian $$ to meet financing sales quota to begin construction. It's ridiculous.

Barcelona is banning Airbnb. The mayor has announced that he will not renew the licenses for any of the over 10,000 short-term tourist rentals in the city. By 2028 all of these apartments and houses will go back into the rental market for local residents.
