I think the BC public has moved well past that " 2ยฐ would be quite nice" stage, but now our problems lie with government technical capacity and politicized management.
We went through a period starting in the mid 90s when federal and prov govts focused on cutting deficits.

Smoke alarm inspector just came by.

Said he was "wearing it".

Mask efficiency and virus transmission are largely in the domain of engineering and applied physics.
In these fields, RCTs are basically the lowest level of evidence, not the best.
Not all evidence is equally valid. When we develop guidelines there is a hierarchy of evidence that we have to follow. Systematic reviews of RCTs are the best evidence.

"Most" people survive a polio infection without adverse long term health effects.
Just like "most" people survive car accidents, major earthquakes, floods, droughts, etc.
Thankfully, we don't base health and safety precautions on a simple majority outcome.
The other question you should ask is why has the term "most" become acceptable? Do you hear that about malaria? Do you hear that about dengue fever? Do you hear that about even lice? Do you see newspapers continuously running propaganda talking about how "most" people will

A question for PH professionals and MDs advising patients:
What are the liability and ethical implications of advising people to "do your own risk assessment" without providing them with the necessary tools, data and information to do so?
The lifting of mask mandates DOES NOT MEAN โtake off your mask.โ It means wear one if you choose. Do your own risk assessment. Know if there are

If you owned waterfront property and there was a 3% chance your house would get flooded each year, NO ONE would buy waterfront property.

I work in applied fluid dynamics and particle dynamics.
Maybe the OP is confusing the processes leading to transmission with the dosage needed for infection?

Ohhh, I have questions!
1. Are there any studies showing that hybrid immunity provides better protection against C19 infection than immunity gained via vaxes?
2. Are there any studies showing that the benefits of any immunity gained via the "hybrid" route outweigh the risks?

As fall approaches, B.C.โs top doctor is encouraging people to plan ahead for a so-called triple threat of respiratory illnessesโinfluenza, RSV and COVID-19.

Insider joke?
It has become more than clear during this pandemic that most people do not have the skills to undertake personal risk assessments.

Navneet, it's all about probabilities.
If only 3 out of every 1000 people* die in car accidents per year, does that mean we should do away with speed limits?
Or that those 3 were your friends?
Or that none of your friends will ever die in a car accident?

I guess Bonnie is indeed special, in that she can measure CO2 concentration (as an indicator of fresh air ventilation) and virus particles in the air, all without any type of instrumentation.....
Or maybe she ran around inspecting the HVAC filtration system in the building first?

Michael-that is absolute speculation with no basis in fact as far as I can see.
It's been said elsewhere-many of the people protesting BH's acceptance of that prize are women who have been fighting for better health care, equity and fairness in this province.
You can add me.

Here's my revised, shorter summary:
MASKS DON'T WORK WHEN NOBODY WEARS THEM!
Yes, I'm yelling. Maybe someone in BC PH will hear?
Okay, I'm being sarcastic now.
In danger of being unprofessional.
Dr. Bonnie Henry on 2023/01/13: "Wearing masks is not going to make a tremendous difference in the transmission of these viruses."
Public health has lost the plot.

Hmm. I was just reading about the annual UBC Homecoming events. Starting tomorrow, for one week.
There are lots of free events and museums are free.
"It all culminates in thousands of UBC alumni and friends returning to campus on Saturday"
Nope. Not this year.

Why haven't any of our governments implemented free N95 distribution programs?
Totally embarrassing for CDN Public Health when these programs were implemented in the US years ago!

Surely given the cost of paxlovid, understaffed healthcare systems, hospitalizations (incl. hospital-acquired infections), and lost days of work for everyone who gets sick, not to mention long COVID, this could be enormously cost-effective--as well as support everyone's health.

Please provide the evidence as supporting your statement dismissing aerosol transmission in health-care settings.
Recent scientific publications (reviewed, published) and/or reports signed and sealed by the appropriate qualified professionals would be adequate.

For decades afterwards we were told "Oh but he was an exception, not the rule. Mental illness, not misogny".
Yet I have many stories about both explicit and implicit misogyny in the engineering world.
Didn't feel free to share most of them until the last few years.
Consequences.
Well, here's one:
Covid is transmitted via aerosols = knowledge-based decision.
Covid is transmitted via droplets and fomites = political policy-based decision.
Which system do you prefer?
All this is just my opinion, of course (some degree of sarcasm)
End.

And medicine cannot explain how the virus travelled from one person to another and what the best ways to reduce transmission are.
Particularly for airborne and waterborne viruses.
Hint: it's not cleaning surfaces.

This is very much a core problem here in BC.
When all the public health communications have claimed SARS2 is transmitted via droplets, not aerosols, masks don't really work, hybrid immunity is best, etc.
It's much harder to undo fallacies than to provide correct info at first.
Mandating masks without explaining why they are effective, and why it mattered, has been a big mistake of our gvts. Mandates come and go, knowledge stays.

Women realized during the stay-home phase of the pandemic that their feet stopped hurting. High heels are out.
@chantz_y
Not having to constantly think about Covid risk assessment and personal safety measures to mitigate risks. That should be the job of Public Health, not my responsibility.
But sigh, it is. At least if I want to protect my personal health and that of those I come into contact with.

I called my local pharmacist last week to ask exactly that question.
No MMR vax available when I was a child!
Pharmacist looked some stuff up and said that anyone born before 1970 has "natural immunity".
Huh?
I don't think I had measles or mumps when I was young.
