The guy who came to cut back some of my trees told me that he had been off work for a month because of an illness where he had mucous in his lungs and pouring out of his nose and eyes. He also had extreme fatigue. I told him he had Covid. He said that it wasn't Covid because 1/
Met a guy I know while I was walking the doggo. We chatted a bit, and because I know he's smart and I like him, I told him he still needs to be masking, and I told him why. I told him about viral persistence. He said "so it's like herpes, HIV and measles." I said "exactly." 1/2
He said that the telehealth doctor thought that he might have a Covid variant and explained that recovery could take "as long as 3 months." I explained to him the importance of making sure he is not reinfected, gave him a pack of N95s and sent him on his way.

So, he "got" it, but before I spoke to him about it today, he had no idea. He also spoke about how he and his wife had it last year and got over it easily, so I told him about the danger that comes with each reinfection. Again, he had no idea. Public health has failed us. 2/2
When I explained the facts about
#SARSCoV2
to my βnormieβ friend, I literally felt crazy. I felt on a par with antivaxxers and flat earthers. In order to give my facts legitimacy, I had to repeatedly say that I read medical journals. Where are you,

He had gone to a telehealth clinic and the nurse there had done one rat test from a swab of his nose only. I explained why that was insufficient. He said that the telehealth doctor had prescribed an antibiotic. He was willing to accept the possibility that he had had Covid. 2/
I went into a local bakery, masked of course, where I saw a mother, father and young daughter, all masked. I was so happy to see them, as I seldom see ANYONE masked in my area of Southern Ontario. 1/
Who would believe that this spacious medical centre waiting area would produce such a high CO2 reading? The receptionist area was over 1900 and our examination room was 2025 (door open). The receptionists wanted to test the other doctorβs office, and it came in at 2250.
Everyone calling into cbc radio show reports having been infected 3-4 times.

says.that people who have been infected multiple times have heightened immunity. He agrees that immunity is higher because of frequent infection in the general population. We are so fucked.
My 90yo mother went for a skin related day surgery procedure today at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC. She reports she was the only one masked: not the administrative staff, not the healthcare staff, not the patients, not the doctor who did the surgery. It is beyond words.

When my Covid conscious friend pointed out to their teenage daughter that her friend may have POTS as a sequelae of Covid, the teenager replied βYou think everything is Covid; we just want to live our lives.β This is the harm Society has wrought: the young face of Covid denialism
I am now to the point where I believe that Society will just adapt by normalizing decreased cognitive ability and increased death & disability, while ignoring its actual cause. We mask-wearers will be relegated to the pile of eccentric hypochondriacs.

Although Iβm seeing fewer masks around in general, those of us whom I still see masking are not f**king around; I am seeing people wearing only top of the line models.

As a Covid-conscious person with only a basic grasp of science, this tweet brought me to tears. We have been called upon to show personal courage in the face of the multitudes that wish to label us as crazy and misguided. Thank you for your work and for leading the way forward.

: My son is taking his driving test. The examiner came out unmasked. I asked her if she could please mask. She asked why. I told her Iβm immunocompromised (Im not). She would not take the clean kN95 offered, but instead, went back into the office to get a baggy blue.
My 24 year old son is taking driving lessons. First lesson, the instructor was wearing a baggy blue. Second lesson, I provided him with an N95, which he wore. This morning, my sonβs lesson was cancelled because the instructor is sick π’

I just donβt get it. Why is it so difficult to put on a respirator when in a public space, either indoors, or outdoors, when in proximity with other people? Not sometimes, but every time? What is the f*ing BIG DEAL? Iβm sick of lame ass excuses!

Cleaning the air can only do so much. Just as thereβs the βvax and relaxβcrowd, thereβs also the βclean air, go bareβ crowd. Respirators are by far the most effective mitigation strategy to guard against death and disease. So,

This is continuing horrifying news. How do we make people understand this and the associated results? I believe this is beyond 99% of the populationβs ability to understand and accept.
SARSCoV2 Uses CD4 to Infect T Helper Lymphocytes: SARSCoV2 infection-immune system dysfunction; infects human CD4+ Th cells, but not CD8+ T cells,& is in blood & BAL Th cells of severe COVID19; spike glycoprotein (S) directly binds to CD4 molecule,
Seriously, though, what kind of βtherapistβ suggests compromise when your spouseβs life is potentially at stake? So much fvcked up to unpack hereβ¦.
Iβm worn out from fighting to keep myself, my son and my pup safe. Last night at the vet, I could have advocated for more safety, but I was so tired. Appointments coming up: legal, dentist, bone density, gastroscopy. All a fight. I will always mask, but unsure if I can do more.
Iβm blown away. There is a local bakery I frequent where nobody has EVER been masked. Last week they were down 3 staff, who were on βholidays.βToday, ALL staff was masked.

Local cafe owner. She and her son both have βcolds.β I tell her Covid is still around and that tests are available at the pharmacy down the street. She says that this doesnβt βfeelβlike Covid. I tell her symptoms depend on strain, etc. Off she goes to infect many others.
Thereβs a woman I know from my community who works at our local grocery. Her husband is a cancer patient. She always masks with blue baggy and often a shield. Today, I offered her KN95s next time I am in. I explained why. She agreed to try them.

Five days post-scope procedure where neither nurse, gastroenterologist, nor anaesthesiologist were masked, and I think I dodged the bullet. I was wearing my trusty Drager 1950, aside from during the actual procedure.
The one key fact i would want to drive home to HCWs? Itβs that up to 60% of Covid infections are transmitted asymptotically or pre-symptomatically. By the time your patient coughs on you, itβs already too late.

I thanked them for masking, and they looked quite embarrassed about it, and didnβt seem to want to discuss it further, so of course, I left them alone, but I really wanted to know why. How did they get to the place of realization, where most others donβt? 2/
