PCR swabs are the most accurate way to diagnose COVID, Influenza and RSV. Testing 10 days after symptom onset has low rates of detection. Could this delay in PCR testing be motivated by a desire to find less cases? 2/9

Dr. Henry says that she and everyone on her team is committed to doing as little as possible to manage the pandemic. That explains a lot!

"What the world’s governments have really learned from the pandemic is that they can ignore it. Many have simply stopped testing, stopped counting cases and deaths; after all, if you don’t count it, it doesn’t count." @TheTyee

1/2 In our first briefing, we learned some lessons. We regret having so little time at the end to take questions from the public and the media. We strive to provide BC with factual information on Sars-Cov2 and we value the ability to answer Qs you all have.

Rapid tests answer the question: can I give someone COVID? Because you are not infectious for the whole time you have COVID, they cannot be used to diagnose COVID. See this great chart from @michaelmina_lab /4

“He is also calling for a mandatory mask policy for indoor spaces such as mass public transit and schools, which BC health officials and officials across the country remain reluctant to do.”

@richardzussman asks why a hockey game with 9000 people shouting with masks off is considered safer than a wedding? Dr. Henry's long answer essentially says you can still get married, but you can only have a celebration afterwards if it's at a restaurant or hockey game.

Last week Dr. Bonnie Henry was reading out infection stats like she's talking about sales numbers on an investor call. "So we're up 10% over the year!"

🎯 @PeakSFU “But Dr. Bonnie Henry said . . .” "Hate to break it to you, but Henry cannot -& should not — be your only source for COVID-19 information. It’s quite unfortunate that the person in charge of BC’s pandemic response has been reported by Capital Daily to knowingly lie"

BC is not in a good place now. With RSV and Influenza surveillance testing showing test positivity curve only just now turning upwards, meaning it's about to get worse with more BCians getting infected.

Up, up and away BC #covid cases go! And this is based on the very rare tests being done in BC. In other words, just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Epi-week 37 (Sept10-16, 2023)
