Public Healther, garden gnome, professional meeting attendee, and shitposter. Didn’t pay for a blue check . Opinions are my own and likely bad. (Any/ Any)
There are protests pretty much 365 days a year on parliament hill. I can’t recall any of them being condemned by both the Terry Fox Foundation and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Reminder that the cancellation of surgeries isn’t part of the lockdown. They are the consequence of letting the situation get so bad that hospitals start to break.
I do not like the idea of symptomatic testing in pharmacies. We should not be sending people that we suspect of having COVID into an indoor public setting that is frequented but vulnerable populations. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
0 kids died of bear attacks inside Ontario schools last year. I am therefore suggesting that we allow bears to freely wander the classrooms. It’s time we let this bear hysteria end.
So there’s no money in the education budget to cover a cost of living increase for the custodian at my kid’s school but there is enough money to write cheques for all the parents?
I’d assume that if we have evidence to support 5 day isolation we’d share it. If we don’t, and it is an economic decision, we have an ethical duty to say so before someone infects a loved one thinking that they were no longer infectious.
A reminder that the next little while is going to suck because someone convinced our government that you don’t need to press the brakes until after your car is wrapped around a tree.
Several convoy supports told me that their end goal was to put me on trial and my eventual execution. I am sure many healthcare workers received similar threats. It's hard to find common ground with that.
My kids will not be returning to school next week regardless of what is announced today. If they don’t offer an online option, I will be accelerating their second dose and keeping them out of school for an additional 2 weeks.
New COVID testing tool:
Has anyone you live with left the house in the last week?
If yes then you likely have COVID.
If no then you might not have COVID
Everyone remembers last year when the Prime Minister was isolating due to a high risk exposure to COVID and still managed to safely hold press conferences every day?
I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine that.
Every parent has seen how fast COVID began to spread in schools after masking was removed. PHO has advised reintroducing masking. We have decided not to because we think we have enough ICU beds. Let’s just ignore that school spread is decimating the healthcare workforce.
These restrictions are being put in place because our hospitals are strained. Let’s check in on who is disproportionately using up our hospital resources.
Every time I mention distancing I get a comment that says “COVID is airborne so distancing doesn’t matter!”
Stop acting like you’ve never taken a step back from someone who farted before.
“Being kind to people who choose to mask” is the wrong way to frame things if you want to encourage voluntary masking. Masking is about protecting your community.
If you are on the fence about vaccinating your kids I understand. All I can do is encourage you to look at all the very smart experts who are incredibly excited to vaccinate their kids.
I'm getting increasingly worried about what is happening inside hospitals. This started with COVID making them short staffed and now it is resulting in patients becoming infected. That this is happening on top of burnout and with a public that has largely given up doesn't help.
People realize that when the hospital system breaks we aren't just looking at COVID deaths, right? There isn't a separate ICU system for COVID vs non-COVID. Services get cut back in response to capacity and staffing issues, not because of lockdowns.
I’m seeing more framing of mask wearing as a personal protection strategy rather than a population based strategy focused on source control. The frustrating thing is that I’m seeing it from people that should know the difference.
The unexplained hepatitis in children sure seems like a good reason to dust off that risk communication manual we should have been using the entire pandemic. Put a trusted expert in front of cameras to calmly explain what we know, what we don’t, and what is being done.
Vaccinations are a prevention measure. Testing is a surveillance measure. Stop trying to claim surveillance measures are reasonable alternatives to prevention measures.
The victims told us, we wrote a report, the prime minister publicly apologized, Gord Downie wrote a book/album.
We can't feign surprise every time we find evidence of the geocide we committed as recently as 1996. That's a child's strategy to avoid responsibility.
Some people are really upset that I strongly believe masking in schools should be reinstated. Wait until they hear my thoughts about the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
A small percentage of a very large number can still be an unacceptably large number. Many people have trouble with this concept which makes it a nice angle for grifters.
I have the distinct impression that our 4th wave response might look better if our Premier wasn’t locked in a basement to stop him from interfering in the federal election.
No one goes into public health because they want power. It’s kind of silly that people accuse us of not wanting to give up power. We want to go back to promoting active travel, warning people about ticks, helping new parents, and giving out condoms.
There will be a battle to reintroduce masking in the fall. This is why it is important to use precise language when explaining why mandates were dropped in the spring.
Once you lose containment, Omicron moves through a congregate setting like nothing I’ve seen before. The vaccines seem to have a huge impact on severity.
Thank science.
I really wish the "outdoors = safe" narrative would end. Outdoors is safer, that is not the same as safe. You don't get to abandon public health measures just because you are outdoors.
We should probably be tracking and reporting one or both of:
1) Health care workers currently isolating due to COVID.
2) Heath care facilities currently experiencing a critical staffing shortage.
Health care capacity is more than beds.
I hope we can all agree that the convoy organizers whose started goal was to overthrow the recently elected government and have the Governor General put them in charge did not have the best intentions.
Volume 4 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's report on residential schools is titled "Missing Children and Unmarked Burials."
These types of discoveries shouldn't be shocking. We knew about them. We put them in a report. People should probably read it.
It seems like we are banking on all future variants with vaccine escape to be "mild" like omicron is. We should probably invest in capacity to deal with future variants.
“Evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 reinfection adds risk of all-cause mortality, hospitalization and adverse health outcomes during acute and post-acute SARS-CoV-2 reinfection, and that the risk and burden may increase in a graded manner according to the number of infections.”
Treating exposed two doses individuals as being at low risk for infection and allowing them to work is an economic decision and a shitty one at that.
Congratulations, now your entire workforce has COVID!
So when this is all done, conservatives are going to invest heavily in our healthcare system and fund a child mental health campaign, right?
Along with extra resources to promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle?
Bike lanes and therapy for everyone!
Calling for the removal of vaccination policies in healthcare is not a move I thought the province would make. I was expecting directive 6 to move to 3 doses. It's not like nosocomial infections have killed an unacceptable number of people or anything.
I’ve heard rumours, but have yet to confirm, that a virtual learning option will be offered to parents. I will be taking this option.
My children are not yet fully vaccinated and could be described as having pre-existing conditions. My main motivator for this is the lack of TTI.
The biggest spread is still between people with no mask, or blatantly improperly masked, who are in close prolonged contact. There’s almost always a link to someone that is unvaccinated. It pays to remember that sometimes.
The crazy thing about the percentage of long term care homes in outbreak being so high is that we changed the outbreak definition in an attempt to declare fewer outbreaks.
I’m getting concerned about the amount of advertising for gambling apps. We should probably restrict its advertising, much like we restrict tobacco advertising, to support recovering addicts.
If only there were some low cost interventions we could use to prevent school closures due to staffing shortages. Please sir, my province is very sick.
The interesting thing about masking mandates is that when they were in place, so much of our traced transmission occurred in social gatherings with no or questionable masking.
We can post meta analysis vs internet graphs all day long but my experience says masking matters.
I’ve been told some schools can’t open even if we change course this week. A bunch of them are under construction to upgrade ventilation systems. That’s kind of funny.
I’m a little concerned that strengthening public health is not an election issue in the middle of a pandemic that showed our federal public health infrastructure was underfunded.
We had no PPE stockpiled because no one approved the expense of replacing the expired stuff!
Some kids have already started school and many more start next week. I’ve seen people get COVID wearing cloth masks, surgical masks, and N95s but most commonly they aren’t wearing any mask at all. The best mask for your kids is the one they are likely to wear for the entire day.
