The Education Act in Ontario lays out clear obligations for Principals regarding the wellbeing of students and even mentions ventilation, etc. But if school boards don't get enough funding for retrofits, assessment, etc. then where does the buck stop? At @fordnation & @Sflecce .

Another reason to hate the coordinated denial that #CovidIsAirborne : My disabled BFF worrying about her safety when unmasked paramedics arrived as she performed CPR on her Dad and unmasked family filled the home after he passed. Death is hard enough. I'm heartbroken & angry.

@ONSchoolSafety @Sflecce I had to submit a Freedom of Information request to find out about my child's school air/ventilation! Why make it hard? Turns out they were hiding something. At the root of problem: Insufficient @ONeducation funds & oversight means grossly insufficient ventilation upgrades.

Student absences are much higher now vs. pre-pandemic. Children's health has suffered terribly since removal of "the layers of protection" partly because schools and school buses have still not been made safe enough. We need to #CleanTheAir in schools & buses. #NowIsTheTime

@joeolivermd My kiddo has an accommodation to eat lunch separately from class but there's no HEPA unit where she eats (and it's sad to have to eat alone!) so it's far from perfect. I do pick her up when I can but still, it bothers me that safe lunch spaces are so hard to find in 2023.

@HowtoADHD Critical point: Involve the person w ADHD in developing treatment plans. Many kinds of supports are available & worth trying. "Good students" can have ADHD, too! Diagnosis is beneficial regardless of school performance. ADHD isn't a character flaw or lack of discipline.

@lisa_iannattone 💯 I think about this in terms of meeting our core need for "ABCS" - autonomy, belonging, competence, & safety. If lacking agency/autonomy to stay safe, one might change beliefs (minimize) to resolve that tension. Same, if safety measures (masks) threaten sense of belonging.

Yesterday, @ONeducation directed school boards to share ventilation data. What I saw: Abysmal reporting that failed to demonstrate that the air in schools is adequately ventilated and filtered - even for pre-covid standards! Kids deserve clean air. #GetItDone #COVIDisAirborne

@CarolineCoramUK It's a virus. SARS-CoV-2 is an exceptionally well- defined, well-characterized coronavirus that has myriad effects. And no, vitamin D isn't a magic bullet. Still, it is wise for most to consider supplemental vitamin D given widespread insufficiency/deficiency.

@prvbswmn No vax were available for the vast majority of the time period referenced. Most studies I've seen demonstrate lower acute and subacute morbidity and mortality amongst vaxxed vs unvaxxed. However, risk of long covid still too high for my tastes even with vax so I still #MaskUp .

@steph_the_twit A friend's dad recklessly violated restrictions to keep meeting with people in his church. Dad contracted covid, infected friend's mom. Mom died. Beyond angry, friend disowned his dad before dad also died. A *little* caution could've prevented so much suffering, grief, loss.

Too relatable. Kiddo is sick and I'm feeling the edge of it now, too. We're quite careful so nearly the only place she could've picked this up is school. There are no HEPA units in her classrooms. She masks but we all know that one-way masking isn't enough... #CleanTheAir

CMOH Moore said schools accounted for ~25% of community spread then only a month or so later inexplicably recommended lifting mask mandates & other protective measures. Most students weren't fully vaxxed; some not eligible. Schools unsafe. A misfeasant vax-only approach, no?
