Why are people whose own children studied in exclusive + expensive boarding or English medium schools criticizing the Assam Government's decision to introduce English from early stages?
As guwahati drowns, let's understand that it's population is as much to blame as the authorities. A lack of proper planning & drainage system is often helped by citizens who do not feel responsible while throwing away garbage on roads and drains.
Our podcast (
@ChickenneckThe
) just got selected by Spotify for a 12 week training program.
Couldn't have been happier for this selection, for something we do out of pure passion.
Happy to officially announce that I am joining the Department of Communication at UC Santa Barbara
@CommUcsb
as an Assistant Professor, starting January 2024. आइ वडिलांच्या आशीर्वाद आहेत भारी.
We don't talk about Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly or Sehwag as much as we talk about Dhoni after every game.
The reason? Dhoni knew when to leave.
The art of leaving at the top of one's trade is tremendously underrated.
As a student of law, Nilay Dutta was a symbol of hope on what is possible for a lawyer from Assam nationally.
Irreparable Loss for the legal and sports fraternity
Guwahati is wonderful city to survive. At times it gives the feels of Brahmaputra on the roads itself, don't even have to go near the ghats.
Thanks to poor drainage and years of unplanned development
Has to do a lot with the 'Sorkari Sakori' Tag.
They behave this way because of the social validation they get even today and the lack of performance analysis.
I have studied all over the world. But admin Profs in Assam Univs are on a diff level altogether. So much arrogance n entitlement! This is not the mid 80s/90s where ppl have a single MA degree or a rare PhD. End of the day, they r educators, why do they behave like uncouth thugs?
Last time people protested against the
#CAA
in Assam, the ones who benefited run a successful media house or political parties today while forgetting the ones who sacrificed lives.
Just a reminder that while you may choose any side, choose your leaders wisely too.
Floods in Assam continue to cause damage. But there is more than what meets the eye. The island of Majuli is an example of how yearly floods combined wth bad policy have damaged livelihood, ecology and changed the economies. We speak to Dr. Mitul Baruah
@ChickenneckThe
. Out soon.

does it. As a Assamese, couldn't have been more proud.
Let this moment be a unifier for all the differences. Remember this medal is for the nation. A timely reminder that no difference should be greater than the security of its citizens.
Twitter is becoming the new LinkedIn, LikendIn the new Instagram, Instagram is the new Facebook & Facebook the new Orkut. Can we call it 'mess - a life - verse' and not metaverse (don't correct)?
Given the amount of time and sanity, we have all collectively lost over the years.
Received a random message today about how
@ChickenneckThe
podcast's episode on Assam Accord and CAA with Prof Smitana helped a student prepare for a debate.
Don't think I have been more satisfied with our work, given that the idea was to always provide a database of information.
Had the opportunity to speak about my work on Sports law
@Sportslaw_Asser
ISLJ conference at the Hague. Got to learn so much over the last couple of days. Hope to keeping working and researching on these areas.
Officially up on the website. Happy to see
@ChickenneckThe
podcaat alongside some star podcasters. More excited and obligated than ever before to bring untold stories from North East india to the world.
While we talk so much about partition in India, we almost forget how it impacted the northeastern region. In this episode, we talk about its impact on Assam, its constitutional history/challenges, and the overnight economic changes it produced.
The idea of National Law Schools have become so elitist. It's expensive even before one enters one, courtesy of hyper inflated coaching fees.
A diversity study of how many students from tier 3-4 cities/rural India make it to the top NLUs seems like a necessity.
Bhramyaman (mobile) theatre has had a significant impact on Assam's culture. Understand how, along with its history & the unique challenges it faces with increasing OTT & Cinema halls.
Also, if you have researched on areas related to NEast like this one, do write to us.
In our 2nd episode of "TCN-YOUTH COLLOQUY", we are joined by Dr. Rituparna Patgiri (
@Rituparna37
),who works as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi
Read this wonderful book by
@MrSamratX
on the North East India. Loved it so much, that we did an episode on
@ChickenneckThe
podcast.
Here is the link -
We
@ChickenneckThe
hosted
@UtpalBorpujari
sir to talk about movies, documentaries - and everything quintessentially Assamese! We talk about reforms & also pay a small tribute to the evergreen Nipon Goswami.
@Rituparna37
we mention mobile theatres too!
Humbled to be representing the North East perspective to 'who tells our stories' at Newslaundary's event.
For
@ChickenneckThe

The difference in Air Quality Index (AQI) between Guwahati and Delhi is mind-boggling.
Scary to think of the things we tend to neglect/ take for granted in these unplanned and overpopulated cities while making policies.
Finished recording an episode for
@ChickenneckThe
on Lachit Borphukan.
Every session makes us realise how little we know or appreciate the region and its past.
Hopefully, we can make it available soon for distribution.
At
@ChickenneckThe
we felt it was important to break down the recent events and factors (including historical) that led to the violence in Manipur. So grateful to
@ramindesai
for finding the time and agreeing to speak to us in detail. Link to the episode
Very stupid question
But just saw two Assamese parents speak to their teenage boy only in English.
They stay in Assam. Not the first time I have experienced this.
I can't stop but wonder why this is such a thing here.
Just finished recording an episode on the Manipur conflict with the wonderful Rami Desai. Such a pleasure to hear her break down the conflict so well. Episode releases this weekend
@ChickenneckThe
People choosing to go to crowded malls and Starbucks or other cafes in Guwahati will be the same ones who will discuss how bad the covid 3rd wave might be.
These are luxuries, I repeat and one 'can' avoid it.
We are doing an episode on Assam's tea story. Looking for resource persons who can talk about tea extensively. It's history, story and issues/potential for the future!
Any leads are welcome.
@ChickenneckThe
Triple checked after this mail to make sure it wasn't fake.
Surprised to see
@ChickenneckThe
break into the Top 200 Apple India podcast charts (
@ApplePodcasts
). S & C being a very competitive segment makes this even better.
Hope you keeping supporting and listening to our work.

's medal today will inspire a generation of young people from Assam to take up sports. This moment if strategized well, can be the '1983 -Cricket WC' moment of Boxing and other Sports in Assam
Russia and China both permanent members of the UN Security Council have highlighted why such cluttering of power in the hands of a few are dangerous. Post this war, there is a stronger need to rethink the structure in which important organisations functions
Few months ago, we started researching upon the stories of partition from NE. Today we recorded an episode on
@ChickenneckThe
. Partition in NE is not only multilayered but also touches the lives of every individual. This area needs to be discussed much more.
This episode on Indian sport is the Gold Standard in Podcast
@amitvarma
Must be considered as a part of course curriculum in Policy as well as Law Schools.
Indian sport has never been in a better place.
And the story of how we got here is so inspiring.

join me in episode 238 of The Seen and the Unseen to give me an inside view of this ongoing transformation:
Working on Research Paper submissions almost made me feel like I was a student all over again.
Only this time, I was procrastinating because I had to watch a series but actual work. LOL
A year back we started
@ChickenneckThe
podcast over coffee. Today we have been recognized by
@JioSaavn
as one of the 'Best Homegrown' podcast in India. Many thanks to everyone for supporting what we hope to build and a special shout out to
@audiowallah
for the continuous support.
PhD thesis often provide some of the most intriguing perspectives and research work, especially on Northeast India.
We at
@ChickenneckThe
now plan to open our Youth segment to PhD students where they get the chance to discuss their thesis if that deals with Northeast India.
Mad start to Valentine's week!
It’s just 11am and we've already sold more roses than we did on Rose day in 2023. And our analysts are telling me that there will be a bigger peak in the evening 🤯
Our Ph.D. + Research Projects episodes are now back - This season we plan to feature 5/6 people who are willing to share their research work. If interested, you can reach us on social media or at chickenneckpodcast

Sharing a peer-reviewed article I published recently with

requesting the set up of additional online examination centre in Nagaon ahead of upcoming national competitive exams. This will promote accessibility, benefitting youths from the middle Assam districts who presently travel to far off centres

Have failed to understand why good English continues to be considered proportionate to knowledge.
Everyday, I read garbage in the most eloquent English.
My engineer friends discussing the importance of their 5 days a week working jobs over 6 in WhatsApp group, completely oblivious to the life of a lawyer.
One of the most fulfilling things this year has been working on
@ChickenneckThe
podcast. Really thankful to all the listeners who supported & have been asking why we haven't released.
Been working on Season 2. We are coming back this Jan with new ideas, collaborations & stories.
In an ideal world, the cameras would have shown Dhoni smiling as India conquers the New Zealand mental block. But of all the celebs, we don't see him.
But that's Dhoni.
So glad to see our episode with
@adityakakati
on the 'prejudice & politics of food' in Northeast feature with
@AsianStudies
based at Leiden University.
You can access it through our page or from the link below
A colleague called to ask if he can put
@ChickenneckThe
episode on Lachit Borphukhan as a source in his class.
Icing on the cake? He is teaching it to a law school in UK.
Over the years a lot of you have showed tremendous love towards the podcast.
One of the things that will help us reach out to more people who can benefit is through your feedback.
Can you help us by simply giving us a rating on spotify?

Majuli is the epicenter of Assam's cultural heritage. Once a political symbol of Renaissance, it, unfortunately, has a sorry tale of erosion, flood, and changing livelihoods. Understand how the world's largest river island suffers
@ChickenneckThe
A pioneer of the BJP's IT cell who later left it because it wasn't doing what it had set out to do. Catch him talk to us about his journey, use of technology in politics, Indian healthcare system and the future of politics in Assam.
In our fifth episode, we have Mr. Prodyut Bora, (
@prodyut4assam
)who is a renown political figure from Assam, as well as a social activist, and a prolific writer, whose pieces have been carried in the Indian Express, The Times of India, The Economic Times and The Pioneer.
@ChickenneckThe
now has 1000+ plays. For a

focusing solely on

Hope you keep supporting & sharing our work.
While taking a guest lecture today, was surprised to see an old professor of mine from law school attend the entire lecture with students to hear me speak.
I don't buy into appreciation, but this was special.
Disturbing to see people crowding spaces and not wear masks, when thousands continue to die every day.
Priviledge doesn't necessarily give you common sense.
Let's just remind ourselves that
#Afghanistan
position is a mixture of the West's hollow ideology, decades of Religious Biogotry and hollow arm chair principles of UN & its Convention, which from day 1 was a symbol of hypocrisy with its permanent members.
Itanagar’s Donyi Polo Airport is such good news for Arunachal Pradesh. Unthinkable that it took 7 decades for an airport in Arunachal in spite of 1962. The impact of this on daily life will be unthinkable. Makes thinks so much more accessible in times of need.
Imagine a woman breaking the glass ceiling for a sport where not many (yes, including men) had contributed much some 30 odd years back.
Learnt more on gender disparity, passion and hard work than ever before.
Equality is the virtue.
@ChickenneckThe
we plan to do an episode about partition stories from the NorthEast India soon. While we have a few names in mind, we are looking for suggestions on people who can talk about it. Please let us know if you have any.
Problem no one is talking about:
Random student run Law Journals in India putting 'international' in their name and looting students of their money, energy & hope.

Panels discussing Manipur conflicts are so unthoughtful. If you have spokespersons from only one of the community how does it lead to any unbiased discussion
Good read.
But why do we often over look the economic factors? If Assamese youths start protesting for 6 months, what will have to their jobs? Punjab and Haryana farmers have resources and will continue to have them. Will the Assamese protestors do? (1/2)
Looking to connect with people from the North East working on tech policy and maritime policy. Please do get in touch if you happen to know. I would also appreciate you spreading the word.
Whatsapp groups are counterproductive. Half of them would not exist if people realized that their opinions about the world in those groups don't matter to anyone.
Almost 2 years since the gas and oil leak in an ecosensitive zone in Baghjan. What has been done to avoid such incidents? We host one of the petitioners leading this fight for environmental conservation to answer this.
Do listen!
In our 11th episode of Season 2, we are joined by Mr. Debajit Das, an advocate at Gauhati High Court. He has been a front-runner of environmental litigation in Northeast India.
With all the developments surrounding ULFA in Assam, we
@ChickenneckThe
thought it apt to look into the complex history of the organisation. None better than
@rajkbhat
da whose work has contributed so much towards this area. His new book is a gem!
