Lots of confusion around the proposed EU law. Regardless of how it plays out for self custodial, @MutinyWallet will not comply with any "wallet signing" standard. We don't even create invoices from your node. I worked at a custodian that required this, even for LN. Never again.

The LN protocol is complicated and being expanded and changed all the time. This makes hardening and maintaining existing implementations a challenge. Every LND big release is fixing tons and tons of stuff. If you aren’t updating regularly, you shouldn’t be running a public node.

@sethforprivacy Yes. We let the user decide when to do a swap directly to the lightning channel, it's just a button click next to their balance. In some cases, it'll be their first channel. The ecash supplement, not replacement, is what we're personally interested in.

I think about the last mile problem a lot with lightning. It doesn't make sense to deliver channels to millions or billions of mobile phones. It doesn't scale and it's incredibly expensive. Instead, deliver channels to groups of at least thousands at a time.

People naturally don’t want to pay for channels but that’s the infrastructure for LN. It’s a lot like how people didn’t know how we’d get fiber optics to people’s homes: a last mile issue. The way I think we solve it is similar: a mix of solutions that matches a mix of user types

@sethforprivacy It's not just about non-custodial LN. Think bigger, that's just one use case. Also, federated ecash is very foundationally different than non-federated and I think that's still worth looking at for use cases.
