Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) work in nearly every desktop/mobile browser and can be "installed" onto the home screen.
The best part? Can't be censored by Apple/Google, no download needed.
This is what it looks like to have a lightning wallet accessible to 5 billion people!
Some essential characteristics of Mutiny Wallet.
Non-custodial:
- You are in control of your keys
- The node runs on your device
- Any critical data that exists is saved on your device and encrypted remotely for backups
We're happy to announce Mutiny Wallet is now available on iOS and Android! 🚀🚀🚀
In addition to the existing PWA, you can now get the same great Mutiny experience in native app form directly from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
The great thing about leveraging nostr for search is that there's over 200k nostr users with lightning addresses. We're able to blow past the cold start problem.
In the next major version of Mutiny, we'll contribute to the ecosystem w/ integrated nostr profiles and addresses.
Introducing Mutiny Gifts: Onboard someone to Bitcoin by simply showing them a QR code. Once they scan the QR code, it will load up Mutiny Wallet on the web, allowing them to redeem the Bitcoin.
Guys I like Phoenix it's my main lightning wallet but now is
@MutinyWallet
time to shine. They literally made their wallet for situations exactly like this.
Release time!
In our biggest update yet, we've completely redesigned the home screen, added a nostr-based profile setup walkthrough, and have finished our initial fedimint integrations by adding a federation discovery & recommendations!
We pushed a release yesterday that should start to solve a lot of payment reliability problems. We've been working on this problem for months, trying to figure out what the problems were and what fixes it.
We're excited to share our research into that:
Mutiny is now easier to self host!
We've re-engineered our storage solution, VSS, to run on a normal host, rather than Cloudflare's beta D1 service. Everything has been running smoothly since we migrated. Let us know if you have any issues.
Ending the year off strong!
Over the last few months, we've been preparing our wallet for Fedimint integrations. Today marks the first release with Fedimint support ready for alpha testing!
Wow!
@BTCsessions
kills it with this introductory tutorial of Mutiny Wallet and the Nostr integrations we have so far.
Loved the video, thank you for taking the time to showcase it!

-No app store necessary!
Give this one some love! Hit the link, give it a like, and share it around 🤟🤟🤟
Have you tried out the new
@fedibtc
alpha signet wallet? Wouldn't it be nice to have another wallet you can test with it?
Well, we are releasing our signet version available to everyone with a web browser! Try it out on mobile or desktop:
We're glad to see thousands of new Mutiny users over the last few days 🙌
Load is high but we're working on scaling across multiple LSPs and refactoring so the wallet is more efficient.
If you're having any issues, this is the best place for support:
We love to see lots of new users try out the wallet and ask questions! We took some time out to answer some of the common questions. It's a different experience dealing with self-custodial Lightning and we hope to address as many pain points as possible.
Excited to announce the preview of Lightning Addresses for Mutiny+ users! No more invoice requests needed when paying friends by name directly on Mutiny Wallet.
We strongly believe in software that gives users the most control and least dependence upon us. It's not easy; centralization brings a much better user experience.
For the longevity of ourselves, our product, and our users, this is what we believe is the correct path to take.
We've been thinking a lot about subscriptions at Mutiny and how others can take advantage of it.
Today, ZapplePay just shipped AutoZaps. It's like a decentralized Patreon: every npub gets their own page where people can set up recurring payments to them.
Such an encouraging post. Start out with 0, get enough sats to open a channel.
With our recent Fedimint integration, you can start and finish this process all within Mutiny. A perfect onboarding tool.
@renepickhardt
I recently saw a post on nostr where someone proudly managed to open a 100k sat channel with
@MutinyWallet
that he collected entirely via zaps over the course of a year. Which I think is inspiring
Not an LSP:
- We do not run a node or LSP, we interface with others
- You may open channels to any node
- We never process any lightning channel, payments, on-chain txs, UTXOs, etc.
- Our lightning address server is built with blinded auth and we can't link payments to your node
New version of Mutiny (v0.5.1) just released which improves a lot of functionality with Fedimint. Thank you to all the testers so far!
Now that Fedimint v0.2.1 is officially released, you may spin one up and start testing yourself too.
We are excited to announce today that Fedimint 0.2 has landed! 🛬
This release is a huge milestone for Fedimint as it is now a mostly feature-complete federated e-cash system. Development will be focused on backwards compatible improvements and bug fixes from now on. (1/5)
🚀 Exciting updates from Mutiny Wallet! We've made significant improvements to ensure a smoother and safer experience. Massive thanks to everyone who provided logs and feedback!
PSA: The functionality of multiple Fedimints are significantly degraded due to severe DNS issues.
It seems to be the case that some guardians have an XYZ domain that the DNS registrar has taken over. Freedom One and Bitcoin Principals appear to have one guardian offline.
As we begin our launch on iOS, it's important to remember that our application remains accessible, even in unforeseen circumstances. You can always use our web app at , or self host it on your own server or

Release time!
In 1.7.0, we've made a number of performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features, but here's the ones we're excited about the most:
- On chain fedimint support
- Transfer funds between federations
- Node operates in a web worker now, the UI should be quicker
We've released Mutiny version v0.5.7 which includes two notable changes.
Payjoin v1 support has been added. Huge credit to
@bitgould
over the last few months, for the improvements to the PDK library and getting it included into Mutiny! Thanks to Ben Allen too for testing.
Just published this blog post about how Mutiny collaborates with
@voltage_cloud
to provide our users with better privacy on the Lightning Network, take a look!
It's been about a month since we launched Lightning Addresses and we're excited to see so many people using it already!
We took some time to explain our unique privacy-preserving fedimint-based approach with our new Blinded Authentication system.
Honored to receive a grant from
@OpenSats
and congrats to the others as well! Thank you for supporting FOSS Bitcoin projects.
Next week we will be announcing the upcoming features we're excited to start working on.

We've sent our first handful of mainnet invites out today! If you were really early to our waitlist, check the nostr DM requests area of your client to see if you were invited. Or check your emails if you signed up that way.
Let us know how it goes!
Happy to announce that
@markskram
is our first new member of the team, joining as our new CPO!
Please welcome him by sending him all of your issues and complaints ❤️
Just released Mutiny 0.4.6 for both android and on the web. This release solves two big issues we've been seeing on Mutiny so far, so we appreciate all the testing and patience using the app so far. One area is for multi-device access and the other is on payment reliability.
As we test out mainnet ourselves and get ready for launch, be sure to sign up for our waitlist. We will nostr DM/email once you've been approved for the waitlist.
You can also "install" this webpage as a PWA and it will load your wallet when approved.
Mutiny is a Progressive Web App (PWA), you can install it by adding to home screen and it'll feel just like any other app.
Our wait-list is a PWA and once Mutiny is released it will automatically switch over to the wallet!
Update: A small hotfix has been deployed restoring connectivity to all known federation guardians with this issue. A longer term fix is in progress and will probably be in the next major fedimint release.
PSA: The functionality of multiple Fedimints are significantly degraded due to severe DNS issues.
It seems to be the case that some guardians have an XYZ domain that the DNS registrar has taken over. Freedom One and Bitcoin Principals appear to have one guardian offline.
The best way to use Mutiny right now is with our recent Fedimint integration. On top of high fees, we're also hitting scaling issues. New channels may fail, go offline, and payments may fail to route.
We're in the process of integrating additional LSPs. Sorry for the issues.
The easiest way to do development on Bitcoin combined with the easiest way to operate a node 🔥

We understand that managing liquidity is a challenge. That's why we've partnered with
@voltage_cloud
to be the main Liquidity Service Provider. With Flow 2.0, which we helped develop, new Mutiny users to receive their first Lightning payment within seconds of opening the app.
Sending on Mutiny just got a lot more social: you can now search your contacts (and global nostr users) when sending! There's a lot that changed in this release so let us know what you think.
Expect to see more like this in the future!
We have our first version of Mutiny Wallet up for Android!
We're looking for a few testers before we set it up on Fdroid. Feel free to test out the signet or mainnet version. Let us know if you have any issues!

What this means for Mutiny users? If you've installed as a PWA, the data is segregated. With the new update, Apple will bounce you to safari, which still works. However, it'll be at a blank slate.
Be sure to back up your seed phrase!
A great write up about LDK challenges and why they moved to Breez. All of these we also ran into and solved:
1. Custom rust library around LDK
1. Rapid Gossip Sync bugs and slow syncing
2. Unreliable routing algorithm
3. Concurrent device access w/ just seed word backup
Mutiny version 0.5.8 going out now. This includes additional fedimint features and fixes, including a "Swap to LN" feature that moves your federation esats to a self-custodial LN channel.
There have been some breaking changes to fedimint integrations over the last few releases.

Zapping with Mutiny just got a lot faster! Zap requests should now show up in the wallet within 5 seconds.
Should also have auto zaps and more nostr wallet connect integrations soon™️
With our new federated Lightning Address functionality, you may now receive merchant payments to your Mutiny Wallet.

This new update adds a way to discover available fedimints to join. Naturally, the discovery process is powered by an open protocol built on nostr. You can see who recommends a federation, and add it with one click.
We're honored and proud to be part of the

New Mutiny Release v0.4.14 🚀
We've made some improvements to load times and fixed an issue causing missing lightning gossip data that could have caused a lot of "no routes found" errors.
We also have the android app caught up to feature parity with the web wallet!
This is why we are taking the hybrid approach. Federations for small amounts & getting started, once you have enough for a channel, you can open one from the same app and experience.
We make the "just switch later" as frictionless as possible while still trying out Lightning.
If it's 2024 and we still can't get self-custodial LN into a user-friendly enough place I'd argue we really need to pivot to better L2s.
I see this take pretty frequently, the "just onboard them to custodial LN and then they'll switch later" and yet I don't hear of many WoS
Would you like to see Fedimint integrations for smaller amounts that get converted to self custodial lightning channels when enough is acquired?
We're really interested in "Progressive Enhancement" for new bitcoiners that start off with a few sats and become self soverign.
One of our newest features on Mutiny Wallet - Non custodial one click zapping from our mobile wallet!
No longer do you need to use a custodian, run a server, or open an app on every zap.
Our signet is released but for mainnet sign up here:
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you test out the wallet, please let us know what you think. Stay tuned as we continue to push the envelope in making Bitcoin more accessible to everyone.
One source of confusion is the unified QR code when a federation is added. Right now on chain activity still comes from the normal on chain wallet.
The next major version of Mutiny will allow deposits/withdraws into a federation via onchain, effectively giving a unified balance.
“I’m very excited for what’s happening with wallets and in particular lightning wallets because it’s getting easier and easier over time to use them in a non-custodial fashion, I think that will continue to improve.”

Version 0.4.38 is rolling out now which addresses a few things around channel reserves.
We're also finished with our 50% Black Friday sale of Mutiny+ but instead of rolling the price back up to 21k sats, we're sticking to 16k 🙏
We love seeing everyone test out Mutiny in the wild!
In case you missed it, we released our signet version:
No mainnet version released to the waitlist yet but that will be coming soon. Be sure to sign up!
We've decided to separate the balance between your funds in Lightning channels and funds for on-chain spending. While it introduces a little more complexity, our trade-off ensures users are always in control. Splicing should come later this year!
Mutiny is about breaking barriers. We're solving the onboarding problem for Bitcoin, regardless of who you are, where you live, or what device you're using. There's no need to provide identity to a regulated institution, making Bitcoin accessible to 5 billion global browser users
Just released Mutiny 0.4.14-2
We have started running our own rapid gossip sync server with 1 hour syncing instead of 24 hours. This should help cut down on some payment failures we were seeing when it came to outdated channel fees.
Two features that have worked really well for us:
1. Nostr Contacts - Your wallet can instantly tap into the ~100k lightning users that exist on nostr.
2. Nostr Wallet Connect - Subscription-like payment requests sent straight to your wallet.
All wallets should have these.
Amazing Dispatch from

UX improvement since lightning:
- NWC lets you send bitcoin in ANY app without opening your wallet
- NWC lets you send payments in the future (i.e. subscriptions)
PSA: It is not safe to externally manage the on chain funds of a Lightning Wallet with normal tools like Sparrow or Electrum. There are advanced scripts with other parties involved with Lightning channels and you may cause those funds to be unrecoverable.

We've also integrated Nostr Wallet Connect, a social tipping feature. It allows you to request payments from your wallet, tip users, and more. Future iterations will enable automatic payments under a certain amount specified by you.
A much needed release is underway!
The fee for channel opens is now dynamic based upon the current fee rate estimates. Previously it was hardcoded and needed to be updated manually when we had huge price fluctuations, but now it'll always be based on current chain fees.
Latest version of the mutiny web & android app have been updated which should fix some syncing issues. Let us know if you have any problems after updating.
This perfectly describes some of the new directions we've been pushing towards such as fedimint, lightning addresses, and our nostr integrations.
A great read if you want to catch up to recent developments. Appreciate that

We are back online! Things have been stable for the last 5 hours and we've made a number of improvements to assist with the generic error that has happened.
