I NEVER took a math class before starting the PhD. I barely knew what a vector or a derivative were at the moment of application. I studied by myself during the summer before starting and then find some very kind and helpful classmates. Made it above median in 1st phd math exam

Great to learn from @I_Am_NickBloom about Work from Home. In US, WFH seems here to stay. In RCT with , WFH reduces employees attrition by 33% and improves satisfaction. Managers are initially negative but then change their mind. Productivity is unaffected.

@c_baccianti I agree. It’s terrible. Although, the situation is my Econ PhD stipend a few years ago, while in Boston (one of the most expensive cities in the US) was 19,000 $. The cost of renting a room in boston at the time was around 1100 per month, meaning I paid 70% of my salary in rent.
