Today in the supermarket a lady wanted to buy 3 tins of peaches for her elderly dad, she was only allowed to buy 2. I bought the third one and gave it to her for her dad. She beckoned me over in the carpark and passed her phone to me. Her Dad personally thanked me for his peaches

Today a child said he was hungry. I remembered I had an apple and so gave it to him. He passed it back to me. 'Please can you cut it in half? ' I duly did and gave him both halves. He gave one half to me 'That was your apple, we need to share it' #kindnessbreedskindness

I joined a school and often the Head would quietly come in and stand at the back whilst I carried on my lesson. One day the school secretary said she had noticed it and that the Head didn't go into other classrooms as she did with me. I asked the Head the reason why she came in

Yesterday a child did something that they shouldn't have in lesson. The child came to me, told me what they had done without any prompting. They then told me that they would try their hardest not to do it again. Wow.... This is when an open empathy based approach is working.

When parents seem to bring negativity to an SEN meeting they are actually bringing the worry of being let down... We need to build up our trust with them, and that takes time.

When having a meeting with parents, listen and then listen again. They are the experts about their own child. Act on what they say, don't decide on outcomes before the meeting.Make the meeting an open dialogue.

In the supermarket queue today an elderly gentleman was infront of me. He took his time, spoke to the cashier about every item he was buying. As I got to the till she apologised for my wait. I told her that may have been the only human contact he had in a long time. #happytowait

This week in assembly the person in assembly said that the teachers in our school are wise. One child turned to me and said 'you're not wise.' I have to say this floored me a bit. After a pause they carried on... 'You are kind and that is far more important than being wise'

Teachers, we all need to look after ourselves. We are so desperate to help families and children that if we're not careful we can do it to the detriment of ourselves and our families. We need to be kind to ourselves as well as being kind to others.

Relationships with parents need to be based on honesty. Things happen, things don't go according to plan. To be able to hold up our hands up and acknowledge these things shows we are human and that we care and we can all learn from these events.
