Could we start with: a) not pretending covid gone away b) reinstating free lateral flow tests c) making sure private LF tests can be registered as official cases. d) rei-nstating mandatory 5 day isolation for everyone including kids e) isolation support for those who need it.
To celebrate

I have non of the conditions you have all mentioned and two healthy but unvaccinated children. I don't think of it as freedom Day either. So sorry it has come to this. There are millions of us (esp parents) that don't understand what is happening and are horrified.
A schools I work with asked for picture books for older kids (primary). From recommendations and my personal favourites I've put together these. Would love to hear from educators and librarians what you think a)makes one or more of these books special b)kids responses to them
@BinitaKane
I think important to bear in mind for 3 to 6 year olds especially tiredness stress and change can also promote behaviour change. Especially when not able (due to age) to communicate what feeling.
Huge shout out for these 2 book series. Fantastic characters and original plots. Grace Ella perfect for year 3 to 5. Lori and Max year5/6. TO WIN one pair. RT by Monday 23rd at 7pm. Let me know which pair you want to win.

Not sure how many under 50s have had flu jabs as messaging about need to have one poor. Suspect most is Covid-19. And if we had access to free PCR tests for every 2 negative lateral flow 1 would be positive on PCR.
@Natasha_KC1
The 2 in 6 weeks is extremely likely to be the same infection. If unwell symptomatic again within that time it's more likely to be a post Covid reaction and or Long Covid, seek medical advice if in doubt.
@chimenesuleyman
Most people who get symptoms are getting them 8 to 24hrs after. I was told that must things were considered within normal range for first 4 days. But not longer. Though number of us (including me) were wiped out for a week.
If I was to recommend 4 picture books that should be in every primary school. These would be near the top of the list. Each for multiple reasons. Which 4 would you recommend?
We often don't talk enough about fiction for 6 to 8 years. When my daughter was year 2. Despite being an excellent writter she had trouble finding books she wanted to read. Books like these would have really helped (mostweren't published then!)

There's a misunderstanding of being sick here. If your off sick from a job you love. Then your not well enough to do said job. Asking someone to 'return' suggests that person's recovered and just can't be bothered to get a job. This is extreme gaslighting (even for Tories).
As a children's bookseller I am used to selecting high quality non-fiction books books for my customers. Every so often there are some books that are some that stand out from the rest. Here's 5 you don't want to miss.

Far more likely the result of multiple Covid infections affecting children. Also if more parents are stressed about their jobs and keeping a roof over their heads that will be a factor too. But possible extra screen time at home is a factor.

Hi Charlotte can you link the mum up with local NCT breastfeeding group or children's centre for support. And from a mum who breastfed her own kids you can 💯 per cent breastfeed you baby in a car anywhere you choose. And that's no body else's business.
@DrSdeG
It's totally crackers we spent 30 billion on track and trace system that only partially worked. Then don't make masks mandatory indoors Nov to end Jan this winter. And dispand free PCR sites which were good at detecting cases. Then we wonder what everyone's getting sick from?
@HZiauddeen
@dgurdasani1
All school age children have since September been mixing loads in school. If 5 months of mixing in schools is not enough to ensure resilience. Then were either asking the wrong questions or making the wrong assumptions.
Wonder if we talk enough about 6 to 8 fiction and period 'just before chapter books'?. Both my kids lost interest in anything school provided at equivalent of purple/gold. Here's 4 first chapter books and a selection of readers from

AS also said in interview the one word judgements needed to stay so Ofsted could provide support afterwards. Except I am also fairly sure she's quoted less than 10 days ago saying it's not the job of Ofsted to provide support post Ofsted. So which is it?
My 13 year old is today a very competent reader of YA. Her reading journey would have been alot easier if these books had been published and if her year 3 and year 4 teachers had known about them.

It depends what you call super rich. Some people think someone earning over 45,000 is rich. But they might be the sole earner supporting a family of 4, and live in an area where rent and or to buy is expensive.
@LongCovidHell
@strawthatbroke
I think far more families are unhappy with this decision than most people realise. But, there's always been a section of British population that won't say anything even if their really uncomfortable with it. Which unfortunately appears to be ALL Tory MPs.
@chrischirp
I will say it again. THE ISSUE ISN'T LOW UPTAKE OF TEENS. THE ISSUE IS MILLIONS OF US HAVE NO DATE FOR OUR CHILD TO BE VACCINATED. GOVERNMENT IS FAILING TO DELIVER AND BLAMING ON PARENTS WHICH IS A JOKE.

And those on frontline again are NHS staff and all households containing school age children. The lack of understanding this government has shown of the actual lives of children's and their parents is astonishing.
@natwalk87
Are you taking a vitamin supplement. Esp D, B's and poss iron. If you had Covid in summer or early September even if was asymptomatic there is a delayed tiredness affect for many people.
@dgurdasani1
Deepeti I do think this 12 week gap post infection will have made a very significant difference in uptake of 2nd dose. Some teens only got first dose in early Jan because had to wait 12 weeks + post infection. Many just missed their second dose be sure got Covid in Jan 22.
If you want your KS2 students to become children that can and want to read. Illustrated first chapter books (top row) and great stories with interesting characters/plots but which are a little more accessible than middle grade books (row two) can both help.
@OpenUni_RfP
If a school already had a box set of Amulet but no other graphic novels. And you had money for 20 graphic novels for KS2 (and each book cost the same price). Which would you choose? Here's my suggestion.

16 series. I asked my 10 year old son (a reader): " If your cohort, their parents and teachers had know about these books when in yr 2, 3 and 4, how many of them by the the time they got to year 5 would be enthusiastic readers of middle grade fiction." His answer: "most of them"
@DMinghella
@MishalHusain
@nadhimzahawi
Dominic theres another reason why it matters. Because if you don't control infections in school then every child's education is disrupted. This terms disruption is going to make last term look like warm up act. The price of adults having their 'freedom' is at the cost of kids.

I've had flu three times in past 20 years, one of which was swine flu. My sons had Covid three times in 14 months. He's only just qualified to be vaccinated.
@nadhimzahawi
Still waiting for explanation as to how 5 weeks off unwell this academic year for my 11 year old (who only missed 4 days of school in the entire 6 years before that) is 'keeping him in school'. Also where his right to be vaccinated (which he still can't access)?
Well my teens daughters just submitted her statement to be considered for head prefect (usually shared by 3 people) she's just said she couldn't have imagined in year 7 she'd now have the confidence to talk to assemblies of children. Whatever happens she's come along way.
@droedmawr
I just don't understand how anyone things being middle class or having enough money to have a mortgage somehow means a parent with under 5s doesn't need support. In first 14 months of my sons life. Local childrens centre was a life line. Isolation is real and can affect anyone.

Some of us aren't in denial and we have to keep reminding each other that's the case. Everything in the world is changing the old guard are trying to prevent it. But the let it RIP policy of theirs will be their undoing.

Most kids know it isn't and the government's policies are now harming their mental health. Because many of them are wiser than some adults and they know what's gonna happen next.
@karamballes
This is going to get interesting. Because if a close contact of my daughter at secondary school tests positive. Then she will be isolating until a longer test has been done on all of us regardless of what the school or government says.
Do you know some kids that are big fans of any of these series? Looking for a couple people to do some guest reviews (any series) in return for a couple free books. Comment below or DM me.

The level of unchecked transmission with no masks, testing or isolation would find a way through a vaccine whatever the variant.

French medical advice when I had Covid in March 2020 was be cautious about ibroufen. And to limit time (especially during day) that you lie on your back. Lie on your front, or snooze sitting up, walk around if can.
Order any 4 for £25 (+ bonus free mystery book). Some new Jan, Feb and couple March titles. Also a few other titles would love more people to know about. If you have purchased from
#ReadersthatCare
in Jan you can also add 2 for £12.50 (please DM).
@EnemyInAState
Were entering the land of the unknown. Lots people didn't do PCR tests that were affected in Jan (so less tests to detect variant) and even less are doing PCR tests now. So basically we don't know what's happening. Except we do know that Covid is spreading rapidly.
Thanks to the person who recommended this book its brilliant. Would appeal to wide range of kids too, those who like fantasy and magic, those who know some of stories AND kids who like search and find and puzzle books AND Maps of course!

Alot can happen in 7 years. 7 years ago I read lots picture books to my kids. But I didn't read novels (adult or children's). When my daughter started chapters she couldn't find books she wanted to read. So began my journey as s reader of middle grade fiction

Government should start funding universities and students properly. This isn't as big a problem in some other European governments because their governments pay the cost of tuition for all their students. In UK we should also Cap vice-chancellors salary.
@dgurdasani1
Never going to forgive them for latest surge in 10 to 15 year olds. Totally preventable with very simple public health measures that would not have hindered their education or had negative impact on economy. In national crisis and government basing decisions on Ideology!
