21 years in Sec teaching, 1.3 yrs in Pri & this yr will be teaching geog!! I have a love of poetry, books, being creative & science π§ͺ 𧫠𧬠Moomin obsessive
Well, it looks like my profile will have to change as of September...... my dreams have come true and Iβm moving to Primary! Year 1 plus I hopefully get to lead Science!! Iβm on cloud 9 -I wouldnβt be here without all the support from my amazing twitter family ππ thank you!!!
Well, itβs here, my first day as a primary school teacher!! Eeeek- wishing so much luck to everyone going back today- I canβt tell you enough just how amazing each and everyone of you is on twitter to help me to get here! ππ¬π
For those teaching science who'd like some suggestions of books to use in the classroom I've been developing this spreadsheet for quite some time now & I'm starting to update more titles over the next few weeks with more reviews to follow (covers KS1-4)
Not a crocodile in sight!! Year 1 totally rocked in maths this morning when comparing numbers. Hopefully they will retain their awesomeness and carry this forward next week ππ
I am absolutely shattered but what a phenomenal effort today from the children and parents! Science themed bake off was a complete success and raised lots for comic relief! So, so proud!! π

If anyone is thinking about how they can increase reading for pleasure in the science classroom then Iβd highly recommend you read this- so many fantastic ideas to explore β€οΈπ

Trying out some crochet patterns for teacher gifts this year- think this little one is super cute! Thinking of turning it into a keychain and may have to add a smile πβ€οΈ Going to try apples next & then positive potatoes π₯ ππ

Watching the Strictly final with this little guy- I genuinely donβt ever take any second for granted- 4 yrs ago tomorrow he contracted Men B & spent 8 days in a coma- tomorrow he will be spending 2 hrs in a trampoline park- I will be forever grateful to those who saved him π₯°π₯°
Consoling myself with a hot chocolate as I fail to secure a job for next year- again π’π’ Itβs important to bounce back though- going to go for a run to clear my head ππ
25 years ago a loud bloke from Blackburn came up to our corridor at
@LancasterUni
& asked me if I wanted a chip π
All the girls on our corridor swore we wouldnβt date anyone from the lads corridor!
We got married in 1998 & get to celebrate by the coast later πβ€οΈ

Itβs true- I have a book addiction! But 21 books for less than a tenner you canβt really argue can you?! My Y1 are in for a treat ππππππ
Never ever will I ever take even one second for granted with my kids. Blessed every single day! Exactly 6 years ago today my boy contracted Men B with sepsis- please, please remind yourselves of the symptoms so if this ever happens to someone you know you can get fast treatment!
It has literally taken me pretty much all day but here are some of the face masks I have created! Pretty proud of myself- theyβre not perfect but it means I can wear a few a day if I want plus I made the kiddos some too π₯°π

A complete rollercoaster of a day but Iβm now celebrating the next adventure for me teaching Reception, Y6 & Y2 from Mon & I genuinely canβt wait! After accidentally throwing away Oliviaβs school shoes & having a nightmare with home insurance itβs definitely time for a whisky!!
Dreams do come true- I honestly couldnβt be happier to finally add my name to a primary school door- how awesome is that?! My room is starting to feel like mine too- spot the Moomins ππππ¬π¬π¬π¬
I hate not being off for Easter at the same time as my lot so when I got home today I got out my sewing machine to supervise my youngest making Easter cushions! I think sheβs done an ace job β€οΈπ£ She wants to sell them to raise money to buy a gecko!
Job number one applied for- and Iβm exhausted!! If only I could save the application form and use it as a generic form for other jobs- it would save me sooooo much time!! Sending lots of crossed fingers to all those in the same boat and applying for a new job this term πππ€π€
Profile now updated! It still hasn't sunk in despite me handing my lab keys back and my school fob! I am now one of the Primary gang- couldn't have done it without all the support of everyone on twitter- it has been a rollercoaster year and I'm just incredibly grateful ππ
Somebody mentioned the word βsassyβ today in class, so I asked if anyone knew what it might mean;
response 1 βdoes it mean cocky?β to which I asked if anyone knew what cocky meant;
response 2 βitβs a biscuitβ πππ
my response βno- that would be a cookieβ πππ
Is it acceptable to take this in to interview with me?!
Another job not for me- 12 people to interview.
Supply here I come!
If anyone can recommend any supply agencies in the north west that would be ace- I live in Haslingden so could drive to Manchester, Bury etcπ
Scarf finished! Not the pattern I thought Iβd be following (didnβt have enough wool!) but still impressed with this cute infinity scarf made using Icelandic wool ππ
#CrochetIsAwesome
Eeeek! I did it!! 9 weeks ago I was convinced Iβd never be able to run for 30 mins & while I find running difficult I love the elation when I hit half way & I realise that I can do it!! So good for mental health too- very proud of myself- Iβm still a better talker though π€ͺπ€ͺ
Love this! A little bit of history of the number zero- had I not moved to Primary I would probably wouldnβt have found this! Love how you get to teach and learn about a breadth of things in Primary πππ
Still THE best Xmas present was 4 years ago when Charlie came home after beating Men B. Today he told me his best Xmas present was the balloon powered car- his heart is so big- heβs just a dude & I feel especially lucky. Merry Xmas- I hope everyone has had a fab day ππ₯°
Structure strips working a treat to check attainment in science so far- in both KS1 and KS2. All I need to do now is stick them into the floor books πππ₯°π₯°
Last day in school tomorrow- teaching in primary has taught me things I never thought Iβd have to learn- especially about integrity, kindness, empathy & sacrifice. I genuinely canβt wait to start my new role in Jan- combining Sec with a fellowship at University is a dream role π₯°
What a joy to teach from The Lost Words today! Gorgeous vocab, enthusiastic students and some amazing poetry written for me to look through tomorrow!!
@RobGMacfarlane
@JackieMorrisArt
Whilst travelling to Southport with my lovely family today I spent much of the trip reading this- just full of absolutely gorgeous ideas- makes me want to permanently take the children outside! Science + Imagination = Magic π₯°ππ Perfect for Primary π₯°π₯°π₯°
Yay! Trying out some sandwich bag greenhouses for our current topic πJust a sandwich bag glued to a card template- then just add some damp cotton wool and a bean π If the cotton wool is placed correctly you can see the bean root and shoot grow through the window π€πππ
Last year I gave up putting Nutella on my porridge because of the palm oil. Yesterday I added a ferrero rocher to my porridge and it might actually be a game changer!! Not sure I can justify the cost of adding one of these every day though ππ
Our Science Sunday will involve this beauty today ππ
Absolutely LOVE how each activity is linked to a scientist and thereβs loads more books to link with other topics too- fab for science clubs πππ₯°π₯°
#ScienceIsAwesome
My followers and following has returned!! Yay!
If anyone and everyone in the North West could keep an eye and ear out for jobs- either primary or secondary science I would very much appreciate it. π€ππ
Round one of pre turning 40 celebrations done and Iβm feeling very loved- check out my awesome cake and super duper highland cow footstool!! π₯°π₯°π₯°
21 weeks & 4 days & our house still isnβt finished but today we got the keys back from our builder!!! A 12 week build turned into a much longer & stressful time & it doesnβt feel like our home yet but Iβm genuinely ready for a bit of a rest & family time β€οΈπ€
Before & After pics
I'm currently putting some vocab lists together for KS3 Science so I'm sharing in case anyone else is doing the same! I've only done Y7 so far- Y8 & 9 tomorrow- the list isn't exhaustive & links specifically to our SOL- red words are polysemous ππ
I am genuinely in book heaven just now- a book for every single student in my class lovingly handpicked by the amazing
@melissacreate15
A parting gift from me based on their interests, book recommendations & previous reading- I will try my best not to keep them all!! ππ
Sometimes I make things and I think βI REALLY wish I could keep this!!β This is one of those times! Really love the red apple chocolate orange holders ππππ
#CrochetIsAwesome
Geek moment!! π€ I discovered that these stringy bits in a banana are phloem whilst listening to the
#somethingrhymeswithpurple
podcast yesterday!! The biologist in me feels like I should have known that all my life but I just didnβt ever make the connection!! Thanks
@susie_dent
There must be relaxed chromatophores in this octopus πas itβs totally white- but can anyone else see the smile it seems to be giving it is it just me?!!
Well- the day has arrived- secondary school uniform buying day. Iβve just estimated the total cost for my eldest EXCLUDING tights, socks,shirts, trainers, shoes, apron, calculator, school bag & coat is Β£175!!! I have twins going through this in 3 years! I best get saving now!
Well, it's official- after almost 15 years married to a geographer who I wind up to say 'what are you colouring in today?' I will be teaching geography after half term! I already follow some awesome geographers but if you have any recommendations or top tips I'm here for it!
What a phenomenonal character Eleanor is- this book summarises the power of kindness beautifully- some really difficult content to read through at times but absolutely worth it. Just let me know if youβd like to read and keep this copy- thanks for sending it to me
@keran77
ππ
Can I just say a HUGE thank you for all the amazing comments about the rhino artwork drawn by my eldest? E really appreciated them & has now decided to draw this which I love too β€οΈβ€οΈππ
BEST Science T-shirt ever!! Especially when you announce you have a women in science T-shirt and your eldest tells you that you must be on it! β€οΈβ€οΈ
Merry Christmas everyone!!
Day 2 of science week and I already have completed entries for the Find a Scientist hunt and so many people wanting to take part in the Science Bake Off! The promise of Einstein and the solar system in cake form is incredible!! ππ
#BritishScienceWeek
I'm totally shattered but pleased I've finally written book reviews aimed at being used in a variety of science topics (and beyond). I hope to create a detailed spreadsheet summarising more books for different topics from KS1-4 (and beyond)
#ReadingRocks
Loved browsing the charity shops in Ramsbottom today- some absolutely lovely people out there- when I confessed many of the books were for my class the lady told me to add more to my bag for free- just amazing!! πππ¬π¬
I cannot tell you how enough just how exceptionally awesome my first week in my new job has been!! And if you think it canβt get any better, well, Iβm now on my way to
@theASE
conference!! π₯°π₯°ππ

I havenβt pushed my lot to have interests like mine- I just quietly get on with them really. 4 weeks ago my eldest asked for some yarn π§Ά, my hooks and some advice & now sheβs asking to visit wool shops & has made these!!! π€―π€―π€―

Already making another batch of Moomin biscuits ππ Now I have Moomin wallpapers on my phone too ππππ
I reckon giving Moomin biscuits might become a new Easter tradition ππ
To get the kitten or not get the kitten- that is the question!
We already have 2 boys who are hilarious- do we go and rescue this little one who looks have a cross between our current 2? Is 3 cats a good idea? Opinions most welcome ππ
Yay!! Super duper proud at being published in

I free-styled it a tad but this is part of the rustic beauty of crochet! Made from the heart and I love how forgiving the imperfections are! A fair few to make for teachers & Iβm looking forward to trying out a few more designs β€οΈππ΅

Would anyone be interested in reading a blog about setting up a science book club? We have had a fantastic year exploring a new book each half term and will continue to do the same into 2023 so I wondered if anyone would find it useful to try in their setting?
I personally think that this is THE best story in less than 20 words EVER! A clear message- girls you donβt need that prince- you just need a poochie ππ I love it!! ππ¬
Saying goodbye to my amazing Grandpa today- so grateful to
@WythenshaweHosp
and
@NHSuk

Eeeek!! Super duper proud- ran for 25 mins- first run of wk 7 couch to 5k! It was throwing it down ππ To think 7 weeks ago I couldnβt even run for 2 minutes never mind 25!! ππ Still think Iβm a better talker than I am a runner though!

I donβt think Iβd ever want to stay anywhere else in Scotland ever again! Plockton is just stunning- having a front garden in a loch and gorgeous scenery like this- just feel exceptionally lucky to spend the holidays here with my family β€οΈβ€οΈπ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώπ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ
Well, this is it- straight to the top of my pile for any materials topics in KS1- gorgeous links to engineering -a stunning story! Brick is trying to find her place in the world & takes in some epic buildings as she journeys across the world- just awesome!
@BooksTales
thank you!
Iβm in solidarity with all those who are having a truly shocking week so far! Trying to stay positive each day by turning each mistake into an opportunity to learn but I genuinely just feel terrible πππ
Our fairy door is causing lots of excitement in Y1 at the minute- what could be behind it? We plan to write letters tomorrow and will keep our fingers crossed π€ Ideas so far include dogs, dragons and fairies ππ
