Here is my

Tube Map.
Designed to help children 'stuck' on certain books/authors or genres find new reads.
I have also made a page with each 'line' on with space for reviews to be stuck on (post it note size)

I'm hoping that 30 Pritt sticks for each class will be enough to earn me some new friends at my new school...
Because if I've learnt anything in life, it's that friendship can be bought!
#NewSchoolNewVibes
Snow based ponderings:
All schools should have a list of local Teachers. Ones that could walk to school if horrific snow/flooding etc.
Then if teachers can't drive to the school that they work at, they can be 'snow-supply' for the day at their local school.
Look at this awesome present my TA got me for the end of the year (bloody royal mail delays...)
She's taken a drawing of me by one of my class and had it turned into a keyring!
Thanks

Here it is...

That was a lot harder than I anticipated!

was a colleague teaching RE - 5 pillars of Islam. The feedback was "could you have differentiated by only giving the lowers the 3 pillars of Islam"
Been working on this for a while but have been tweaking constantly. I felt I needed to get it out there otherwise I'll be tweaking forever...
Lots of people moving Year groups or asking for book recommendations so I made this.
6 Books to get you started in each year group...
Thanks to whoever it was that shared their bedtime box reward for their class.
We're three weeks in and mine are loving it!
A different child gets the box each Friday to take home for the weekend. Hot chocolate, bedtime books and a letter explaining why they deserve it!
So, here is the KS1 version of my
#ReadingForPleasure
Tube Map.
I've gone for genres instead of authors for my lines this time.
It was impossible to narrow down the books and lines (I wish I had room for at least 3 more lines...)

For anyone looking of ways to keep up morale...
I made a Where's Wally using our teachers.
Nothing fancy, 30 minutes on Microsoft Paint.
I know the kids (and staff) are going to love this!
Not all heroes wear capes...
A boy in my class brought in a Barbie for his show and tell. Cue a few reactions, so another lad stood up and said "I've got a Barbie at home too!"
He normalised the situation instantly.
Boom!
@LetToysBeToys
@grahamandre
Yeah, I know I should have waited and posted all 4 of them together... but I got excited after completing the first one.
Here are my Inclusive Books KS1 & KS2
All four downloadable for free from here;
Put a couple of pennies in a charity box instead!
Book delivery day.
Each teacher will start the day with a new pile of books on their desk to share with their classes next year.
Hopefully they'll take a few home to enjoy over the summer
#ReadingForPleasure
Which pile would you want?
Daughter: Have you made many friends at school yet?
Son: Not sooo much.
Daughter: Don't worry. Just remember to smile at everyone lots and lots. Then they will know you are friendly and kind.

Can we drop the faรงade that the kids were unaffected by lockdown?
Resilience, Independence, co-operation and tolerance are the four things that I have noticed have suffered the most.
They may still get 10/10 in a spelling test but that doesn't mean they're in the same place.
Ok, I hope this can be useful for some other KS1 Teachers...
I've been looking for lists of 'longer reads' of chapter books suitable for KS1 class novels. Most lists were mostly picture books.
So here are my 49 longer reads for KS1!

I've tried to include a range of disabilities/issues. The anxiety/grief category got too large so it might become something else.

Trying to get more kids reading in my new school.
My classroom is right next to the dinner hall so I've put this by the entrance.
Kids fill out a form and get a book recommended from me delivered to their classroom within 2 days .
Early days, but there seems to be a buzz growing
Romesh is a hero for this. Taking a break from a set to get an important message out to the masses.
Some lads will need to hear this. Comedy clubs, sports clubs, pubs, that's exactly where this message should be heard.
After seeing our EYFS teacher use a poppit for number recognition, I thought I'd have a go at making one for my yr 3s that haven't nailed all their phase 3 & 5 sounds yet...
It may work, it may not but it's got to be worth a go!
The Daily Mail asking the important question...
What HAS become of the tolerant Britain we love?
Hmm... I'm not sure, if only there was some evidence of someone stoking the flames of hate...
Here they are then...
My updated '6 to get you started' for each year group EYFS - 7!
Free to download - great for new teachers or those moving year group.
I have made an A-Z of Authors that could be used in the weekly book club sessions. For each letter there is an Author, and extract and some related authors.
Check it out and download it for free here...
This is UKS2 version LKS2 version coming soon!
Can I just check whether my colleague is a genius, or if I've missed the best end of term idea ever that everyone else knows?
'The wet wipes challenge'
-Every child gets a wet wipe
-Clean the classroom with it
-Dirtiest wet wipe wins!
I was in awe when she told me
Made some slight tweaks to my ks2 inclusive booklists.
Nothing major, but it has had a resurgence in downloads recently and I couldn't cope with it not having 'A Kind of Spark' on it!

This is superb!
Someone has made a fake cover for David Cameron's autobiography and has been replacing them in Foyles shops.
I think the quotes from Chala Demus and Pliers, Linford Christie, KISS FM and, Judy and Andy Murray are my highlights.
Unexpected book hit of the year.
My daughter is a picky reader and often won't read a book unless she chosen it herself... (Can't think where she inherited stubbornness from ๐)
My aunt got her this box set (well smaller) and she's bloody devoured them ...
I'm shocked
Look at this piece of artwork sent to me by a brother and sister in Yr1 & Yr4.
It made me smile so I asked them if I could share with the world.
'When we go through hard times, just be happy'
#PrimaryRocks
The book that all schools need right now in all year groups
'An Emotional Menagerie'
An A-Z of feelings through rhyme.
I'm going to read 1 or 2 a day.
As you can see it is rich in amazing emotional vocabulary.
My wife is an amazing writer and I love reading her stories & plays.
A few years ago she wrote an adaptation of The night before Christmas but set in modern times in a block of flats...
She did nothing with it, but I wanted to share it to get the appreciation it deserves!
We've had lots of parents asking for BAME books to introduce to their children. So I made this for them.
It hasn't got every book in the world, but it's a good start.

An lad in my class completely won life today. We've been looking at Fractions in Maths.
Me: Alright, this is just quick retrieval activity so it's not the whole lesson.
Him: *stands up and shouts* It's just a FRACTION of it!
I had to applaud him!

First up - the reading tube maps.
Designed to help children who are 'stuck' on an author or genre. Offering multiple other recommendations for them to try. Linking 'stations' offer links to other genres/authors that will help to broaden children's reading.
As educators we need to make sure that not only do children see themselves represented in the books they read. We also need to make sure they see others represented too!

So tomorrow the family are getting together to celebrate my Grandma's life.
She died last year. She wasn't a rich woman. She raised 7 kids in her council house.
With the money that was leftover when she died we're paying for a hog roast
7 kids
24 grandkids
30+ great grandkids
After popping into school today with the kids I've come up with a slightly controversial plan!
Instead of using Year 6s to show visitors around the school, we should use Reception or Year 1s. My daughter gave her brother the most positive and enthusiastic tour of the school ever!
Fanfare...
The first of the MKii

As I'm new to SLT, I often get smacked in the face by imposter syndrome
This week I gave 3 people some advice(Parent, ECT & exp teacher)
All 3 excitedly found me to tell me of the positive impact from following the advice
That'll keep my anxieties away for a few days at least
First draft of the Book Timeline is complete...
Just sending it to my proof reading squirrels to check that I've not made any glaring errors.

Thread...
Last week I started a World Book Day idea DM Group (well 4 of them...)
People are still asking to join, so I thought I'd start sharing some of the best ideas in a thread, including some of my own and what we're doing as a school...
In September I'm making the move to a new school.
It pains me to leave the school that I've been at for 9 years! But I'm going to be English lead and I'm looking forward to the new challenge. The new school is very 'me'.
Going from 3 form to <1 form will be a huge culture shock!
My brain: They always say you'll be able to see the Northern Lights but you never can...
*Goes to bed*
Facebook/Twitter/insta: Look at these amazing Northern Lights Pictures from my garden
Me:
I'm all up to date with my reading schedule so I'm treating myself to a book from my "I can't believe you've never read that!" pile.

the Lockdown edition...
Anyone fancy starting a DM group to share resources & ideas?
Many hands make light work etc?
#ReadingRocks
It's taken us ages to get this up and running.
But actually lockdown has made it easier so we can 'zoom in' parents to read to the class.
The email went out 2 hours ago and we already have 20 parents/grandparents signed up!
Got to love the enthusiasm of the school community!
Draft two has added timelines to show the overlapping eras.
Would people prefer the option of plain timeline or overlapping? Or should I just create the one?
Teacher: ooh can we add an adjective to our sentence to describe the tower?
Child 1: Big!
Child 2: Small!
Teacher: Well i wouldn't say its either, can anyone else think of a better adjective?
*Looks up hopefully*
Child 3: medium?
*Teacher logs on to careers advice website*
I've just finished the first of

6 more to go (I'm sure there will be more!)
Enjoy

Once I've made them all I'll throw a downloadable PDF on my blog!
I think it's ready...
My list of books suitable for capable/GD KS1 independent readers or as aspirational read alouds
Made after talks at ks1 moderation meeting about GD reading (Harry Potter and the Goblet of inappropriateness)
I think a massively under used reading strategy is allowing children to reread a book that they have already heard.
My 7 yr old is a fantastic reader but wouldn't be able to access Land of Roar had we not have already read it as a family
Why do teachers care so little about copywrite laws?
Just seen someone in a Facebook group offering people access to his Dropbox with all white rose premium and classroom secrets resources...
Currently trying to encourage more teachers to become

.
So I've spent today finding appropriate books for each year group that I think each teacher will enjoy. Hopefully they'll find the time to read it over the summer!
Which would you take?
#ReadingForPleasure
My parents were rubbish with academic stuff. Both left school at 16.
My Dad was dyslexic yet still managed to read me a story every night.
I'm genuinely baffled when parents don't read to/with their children.
'I was lucky enough to be brought up by parents who read to me, and I never went to bed without a story. If you're brought up with a story being read to you when you go to bed at night, it's a very good start in life.'

This book needs to be in every year 6 classroom! Everyone needs to read it.
Even after working with autistic children & adults for the past 13 years, it completely opened my eyes and filled in gaps in my understanding.
A book about being yourself and finding happiness
One of my absolute favourite things is returning home from the library.
We sit and read until we're hungry for lunch!
Daughter - Bunny Vs Monkey
Son - Lego Non-fiction
Me - Song of the Far Isles
Spent some time in EYFS this morning covering for a colleague.
A girl made me a telescope so that I 'can always see what's happening in our classroom'
Its a high-tech bit of kit!
It'll make monitoring a lot easier as I won't need to leave the office!
Here's page 1 of 'I See Me - Inclusive Books KS1'
Anxiety/anger & bereavement to come soonish...
Once they're all completed I'll throw them into one big downloadable PDF on the Blog!
Kids: Daddy, can we have a snack?
Me: No it's only just gone 2 o'clock. You should still be full up from lunch!
*They run back upstairs*
*I sit down with my tea and hypocritical custard creams*
I think I've finished my

Tube map for KS1...
I don't think it quite has the same purpose at the original.
It has become more of a large list of recommended picture books based on topics... But it took ages so hopefully someone will use it!
I'll share in t'morn
