Announcing my next venture, a translation of Xenophon's Cyropaedia for girls! I'll add descriptions of how beautiful Cyrus is, scenes where he gets tongue tied in front of his crush when he's a teenager, and a long discussion about if love is voluntary in the middle of a war
While you were reading Hegel, I was reading Herodotus

While you were chatting with incels on twitter, I was reading Herodotus

Edouard Lanteri gives a detailed explanation of building and using a pointing apparatus to scale up and transfer a clay or plaster models in this book teaching practical classical sculpture (though I have not tried it myself).

I can corroborate this. McMaster being out of certain common machine screws was like the sky turning red with blood. Lots of simple parts like wire terminals (mfr in France) were unavailable & we made some swaps that drove up cost - invisible to the end user though

Same with petrified wood. Ghost stories are a good way to get outcomes when rules are hard to enforce. Reminds me of the robust nuclear waste hazard indication problem: someone recommends to breed glowing cats and write songs about them, bc they think memes last longer than signs
It's too bad that the printing press was only invented in 1948. Imagine what we could learn if we had records from before 1948. I guess we will never know how this conflict originated or who is right 🤷♀️ There is simply no way to find out.

His point about the soviets is true and also sequitur - the argument was about the narrative of good defeating evil. Does reason not support peaceful parenting? I don't even understand the angle here. These are fine
John William Godward was an English painter in the neoclassical style who painted a lot of pretty girls in greek revival dresses leaning against marble architecture. I combined three of his paintings into a repeating pattern to print on fabric. Thanks to

Just read a summary of Allan Bloom's Closing of the American Mind and I'm shook: you guys have just been regurgitating a book from 1986 this whole time. None of you have original takes at all!

My father-in-law is a social scientist. He is insanely gifted. We were looking at a functioning civilization together and I asked him what it would cost to build those tacit social norms today. I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'
there were lots of tacit social norms that allowed for a liberal society to exist in the US for a while. a lot of those norms were broken the last generation. most ppl want to go back...but now that the norm is broken, no one knows how to put Humpty Dumpty back together

It was actually Xenophon who got me into it! Herodotus is great but he has this kind of... fatalistic vibe that I kinda dislike. Very clearly a wordcel iykwim

So many adjacent accounts are doing this I feel like there should be a hashtag so we can compare results later. 'tpotiodine" or something

I had never met another living Austrian" naturally implies that you've met dead Austrians, which makes total sense with me since I became an Austrian after being given a bowtie from Rothbard's ghost.
Book 3 of The Histories was such a page turner I didn't tweet much yesterday
If, after sex, a woman tell you to go to war, it is a trap. 100% of the time. Maybe other times you can trust her, but "ask him to go to war after sex" is a classic move.

People who have never done it have no idea how arduous it is to use the legal system and how much time it takes. There are countless nooks and crannies for for the government to hide it, and all the other players speak in a strange language you've never been taught

Yeah. Biden said 'depositors will be protected, shareholders will not' so instead of/in addition to bank runs there is a stock market crash.
Purge from your mind the idea the the constitution is real. You are doing exegesis on smoke. You are interpreting the Talmud for apostates. The words only bind you; everyone else knows that's just a story. That's why invoking the words of power doesn't give you power.
Video games are bad because the sort of person who would have said this 2,000 years ago is now making a 28 part series on how to get all of sonic's rings on youtube

I like the idea that oral exams will begin to happen bc increasing the caliber of oration in the Anglosphere would be extremely good. Make speeches great again. Oral arguments are extremely lindy, as is real time feedback. Slightly harder to bullshit and name-drop out loud?
The point of the specification is to exclude all other products. The specification is *written by the company that makes the product* and the government requests it. I know because I've written these (different industry)
Most podcasts are bad because of low information density and casualness, but it's convenient. I've been squaring this by downloading blog posts (print to PDF in browser) and using an e-reader with decent text to speech. *highly recommend*

Scanning from right to left instead of L->R can make you look more effectively. Your L->R eye motion is more habitual bc reading; you can look without actually engaging your brain. R->L breaks habit. I find this helps when looking for something I know is right infront of me.
Hawk Tuah recently went viral for her rant on the maligning of Xerxes compared to other Achaemenid rulers.

Perform the same class of cynical arguments that your opponents use to twist & pervert the law as written to help you instead of harm.
But you first have to realize that all legal arguments are rhetoric, it's a game. Kill hope that law will return pure & *use* it as it really is.
Stop telling people the world works in peculiar ways. The world does not work in peculiar ways; it works in particular ways and it's our task to figure them out!
