@Anthrax_In_UK I'm not sure what your point is. The state (at a fiscal loss) worked in tandem with private elements to colonise (often by force) and extract resources and exploit labour (commonly by force), making the colonising nations inhabitants wealthy. That's not just 'making a profit'.
