'It's a myth that there's too much demand; there's actually not enough supply'
Do you understand the relationship between these two things?
@Anthrax_In_UK
I'm not sure what your point is. The state (at a fiscal loss) worked in tandem with private elements to colonise (often by force) and extract resources and exploit labour (commonly by force), making the colonising nations inhabitants wealthy. That's not just 'making a profit'.
@Lancewds
@SwannMarcus89
That's just not true. China is doing well compared to most other countries, but it has not 'overtaken the US in every metric'. China is a few years away from a complete population collapse - have you seen the latest regional TFR figures?
@kenanmalik
@ObserverUK
Yes, the argument is made irrespective of demand. But in today's context, with today's immigration figures, demand is clearly relevant and reducing demand is clearly a reasonable solution to the housing crisis. Explain why it isn't.

I don't think it's unreasonable to include explicitly racist laws and mass violence when it led directly to the actual extermination. 'Holocaust' was always a poetic term with no specific criteria.
@dianahenryart
I think they're both useful. The left has sublime simplicity that allows for a clearer sensory experience conducive to meditating on the divine. The right offers more aesthetic guidance.

Speaking for my fiance, it's a sudden realization. In fact, it's often a series of realisations that paradoxically don't result in her ACTUALLY HURRYING THE FUCK UP AT ANY POINT.

I'm not ridiculing her. She said that she doesn't afford herself any luxuries - even takeaways - so she can pay for private education. Well-off people love lying about their finances whenever tax increases are mentioned; I thought it appropriate to point out the lie.
@SwannMarcus89
Yeah the maximalist position seems to be that accepting any deal means that more gains later are made less likely, when the opposite is true
@chickenstrip007
@CartoonsHateHer
You are being hyperbolic here. There's been multiple meta-analyses in recent years that show clear benefits from breastfeeding
@GFMindset
Although I agree trauma is overstated and overplayed. Extreme stress has a physical, measurable effect on the body that in some cases cannot just be willed away. Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers by Richard Sapolsky explores the science behind this
Thread on the MAC report:
- For 30% of graduate visa recipients it is "unclear whether they are unemployed, have left the country, are in unpaid work, are self-employed, or something else"
- Healthcare costs are assumed to be low due to average cohort age but no actual data
MAC report on Graduate Visa; it's working as intended. Benefits UK economy, taxpayers, and university sector, and should be kept in its current form.
Government response will be an important test of whether it prioritises economy over xenophobia..
@LemanWalters
I get so disheartened trying to have these conversations. It's the same old slippery non sequiturs every time. Completely unable to follow a coherent line of argument. Any criticism of immigration or anything even tangential to immigration is BAD and FALSE and UNFAIR by default

Just because the divorce is initiated by women doesn't mean it's the women that are causing the divorces you dimwit. If a guy cheats on his wife, who do you think initiates the divorce?

Well she says she can't even afford takeaways because all her money goes on her kids' education, but then she's tweeting about buying timeshares. So, going off what she says, she's clearly lying about her finances.

I think this is part of people's problem though. They believe it's too easy to become a UK national and receive benefits like social housing.

Do better. Reflect on your actions.

This would only be a contradiction on his part if he was advocating for direct military intervention in Gaza, which he is not.
This is a nonsensical comparison.

Why do these people even want to live for so long if they force themselves to lead such joyless lives? What is life without a fresh, juicy fruit? Or tea with a spoon of honey? A hearty pasta dish just like-a mamma used to make?
@IonaItalia
Arguably it's a safeguarding issue. When genitals are considered private, this can be easily communicated to children who are then more likely to report genital nudity during abuse to guardians

Government revenues aren't the only measure of a nation's wealth.
The claim that colonies were a net loss isn't based on that kind of sophisticated analysis.

There's an argument to be made that non-Arabs made a significantly outsized contribution to the achievements of the Islamic Golden Age, sure, but the claim that "most, if not all" of Islamdom's cultural achievements came from dhimmis is absurd.
