I don’t care how old they are this is appalling vandalism. If BL decides it’s no longer safe to public display it’s a loss to hundreds of thousands of children, students and scholars. I took a group of US visitors 3 weeks ago who were thrilled you could walk in and see it.
Inquiry doesn’t appear to find anything but reveals that BBC News doesn’t know what prima facie means. Acoba did a real enquiry and concluded that no rules were broken. Please amend this inaccurate headline

My mother could not understand why she was suddenly expected in her late 70s to acquire an interest in Bingo and day time television and what she saw as childish group activities. A fifties film noir club, a Frank Sinatra impersonator and decent food would have been fine.

Staggering that 169 people think that someone who’s been arrested shouldn’t be suspended. Have these people never had a job in the real world?

I did the 'are you willing to take part in an ONS survey on the trace service?' (Which is overlong.) I asked same question and got same answer. By the end of 20mins of Qs on "how well you understand the rules?" (A: "better than number 10") I felt really sorry for the questioner.
@BBCPolitics
Grant Shapps is being so incredibly rude. He seems to have forgotten that he has an obligation to answer the questions properly and respectfully. And Darren Jones is a very competent and patient chair... Once again - no-one ever behaves this badly outside the House of Commons.
@RogersHistory
Lots of schools do employ people to go and ‘knock their pupils up’ to deal with absenteeism. Maybe everyone in DfE should do a term of knocking up to understand how hard it is to break ingrained habits of non attendance.

She’s actually at pains to make clear that she would not impose her personal view about children and marriage on others. Interview is determined not to allow her that space. Which many will find is also intolerant. (Speaking as a single mum.)
@NickBoles
Said it before but if you talked or behaved like this in a normal workplace you’d be explaining yourself to HR. A child who spoke like that would be in detention. Why can’t MPs match normal behaviour standards ?
@ConnorGillies

She would avoid ‘for her personally’ she was clear that she would not impose the beliefs her faith requires on others. You are misrepresenting what she tried to say.

I wonder why any member of the BBC board (or indeed its DG) would want to weaken and destabilise its flagship news programme just before a general election? 🤔

I have to admit I can't see why he shouldn't be there. Important that key advisers understand what advice is being given and what is based on. I go to loads of meetings that I'm not needed at as a decision maker but I need to understand why we are doing something to explain it.
"I think misogyny plays a big part in this...
That a man will be a better woman than someone who was born a woman."
"In your view, can he be a woman or not?"
"No."
"Do you understand how people feel that's insulting?"
"I don't care."

What if a child saw Mickey Mouse drown as he couldn’t manage the weight of his costume in the water? They don’t seem to have thought this through.
In a few months, after a gen election, many MPs will wake up seeking employment in the real world. Like every grad who regrets sharing their drunken adventures on Facebook they might bear in mind that HR depts will take a dim view of conduct in the chamber and advise avoiding.
@electra_rhodes
I don't understand how your bio says "emerging writer" you're fully a writer, definitely emerged. This is a wonderful story, beautifully told. You're also clearly a lovely person. Poor Tim. But he's right about the 30 years. ❤️.

The PM'S daughter can order whatever she likes. She is a private citizen. It she helps keep a big fashion brand in business whose Italian workforce will want the work that's fine.

Agree. She's taking the fall but it's far from fair. It's not uncommon to laugh at finding yourself in a disastrous situation.
“Cass’s vision is what gender-questioning children deserve: to be treated with the same level of care as everyone else, not as projects for activists seeking validation for their own adult identities and belief systems.”
@soniasodha
as ever clear headed (and courageous) on this.
The Cass Review replaced heat with evidence for gender questioning children. But as new legal advice on schools shows, there’s a long way to go yet in unpicking the harmful influence of an adult ideology on services for children.

So, trying to get through to my GP surgery. “You are currently number 18 in the queue.” And a message about “national staff shortages” delaying their answer, which doesn’t quite tally with the many local mums looking for part time reception work….

It’s basically back to an early 20th century “Should women be allowed to meet on their own without us?” debate. Only that don’t want it to be a debate.

In addition to being antisemitic the poster appears to be semi literate. But the post alone would surely merit bringing your employer into disrepute and likely dismissal from most employers?

Not sure many parents did. Kids were largely left to find out from other kids. That’s why sex education was introduced in the first place as most parents found out for themselves and left their kids to do likewise.

Greatly to her credit that she's also an ex barmaid. Useful way to learn early how to weald authority firmly over the tired, emotional, pompous and indignant. Explains a great deal.

But we liked Ken Clarke and John Prescott going to Ronnie Scott’s. What’s the difference? And it looks like a good set and it’s in Manchester. Explain the problem. Also she goes to Glyndeborne. Something for everyone. Truly the people’s party woman with a purpose.

Labour share of the vote in NW Durham well over 50% when held by Ernie then Hilary Armstrong and throughout Blair years. Only fell below 50% once Blair stood down. And Labour only lost seat under Corbyn/Pidcock. No-one else to blame.

Seems to live pretty cheaply "and claimed the £21.77 back on the taxpayer". Worth every penny. If we get out of this i'd be very happy to buy him a much more expensive dinner anywhere he likes. I'm pretty sure others would too.
Dear Sandringham press pack. It’s nearly tea time. Nothing’s happening and you’ve got no signal. Ten mins away is the Rose & Crown, Snettisham. Multi award winning pub and restaurant and WiFi! (Still no signal. It’s still Norfolk.) you’re welcome.
Used to have to read this aloud again and again at bedtime. Pure pleasure. We talked every night about the things on the floor and it's how one small person learnt the joy of rhythm. Thank you

All the house is quiet
Curtains tightly drawn
But someone sings a little song
To welcome in the dawn
It’s not time for breakfast
Too soon to play...
Heads deep in pillows
Underneath the clothes
But all the birds are wide awake
And so is Annie Rose

Love the hall mat. It’s like v small children though. The bit when they discover that there’s a world beyond the kitchen… feels like a huge moment.
NUS have voted to expel the main Jewish student group. Anti Zionism is almost always antisemitic & this is a very clear example of anti semitic anti Zionism. This isn’t criticism of Israel. It’s punishing British Jews for not wanting Israel to be destroyed

Even before the campaign started. Anyone who is brave and dignified enough to stand in the place her sister was murdered deserves everyone’s admiration.
