One thing I hadn’t thought about, in terms of the mechanics of film photography, is you have no idea until you develop these that you had just dunked from the foul line. How crazy did a newsroom go when one of their boys got one of these developed
I don’t know what the 3 Body Problem is but the trailer for it showed this fat white guy with a terrible beard wearing a kimono in it and I finally understand what everyone means when they say that seeing yourself represented in film is so important.
28 episodes of the O’Reilly Factor included a Kansas doctor who performed abortions named George Tiller. In 1993 he was shot five times by an anti-abortion extremist. In 2009 he was assassinated. Fox News killed that man, they know they did, and they’re trying to do it again.
VP: So here is my pledge to you. As president, I will bring back the border security bill that Donald Trump killed, and I will sign it into law. And show Donald Trump what real leadership looks like.
@LVozzella
Congrats on laundering Republican oppo for them. If they want to make it a story make them announce it and stand behind it. Getting used isn’t journalism.
@testpatterns_
Motion picture studios are required by law to only make films with that stupid pale blue tint on everything. Because of woke. This was predicted by Eiffel 65 in the 1998 song “Blue (Da Ba Dee) but we didn’t listen.
Harbaugh is such a fascinating case. Objectively psychotic with such a complex web of loyalties and values that he more often than not comes away with the correct and just position after a convoluted journey through the Harbaugh Mind Palace. A Voynich Manuscript of a man.
Immediately after winning the college football national championship Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh called for NCAA athletes to unionize and for players to receive a bigger share of the billions that college sports brings in.
@uncledoomer
Been in and out of this general type of environment in politics and I think you basically nailed it here. The good life is dangled just above your head to keep you compliant, striving, and willing to fuck everyone else over to get there.
I love this guy but I don’t think I could own up to a professional failure like this. I would be back in the newsroom with JFK’s brain matter on my shirt telling my editor like “no this was from like, a different guy. He was sitting next to me on the bus.”
@bradjchester
@Falcon87456
one of my favorite quotes surrounding the jfk assassination is from a news photographer expressing regret that he didn't capture the second the bullet struck his head
What are the odds of a container ship losing power suddenly and hitting a major bridge making it collapse and cutting off a port?
Does anyone have the math on that?
@jomeezy617
I imagine it’s something like digital music where there’s more crap just by virtue of the lowered barrier to entry and overall production increasing that much, but that the greatness is still there and recognizable
@SocDoneLeft
Only thing I can think of is this is in behavioral and social sciences not like arts and humanities so I think it’s like an anthropological study of anti-black racists themselves not of the practice of anti-racism.
@brent858
Non-narcotic pain relief is such a boon for rural America it’s genuinely insane that politics is all that has stopped it’s expansion for so long.
@Srirachachau
@daveweigel
I can’t place the episode but there’s one where Marge says a layover in Japan is welcome because Homer loved Rashoman and Homer says “I don’t remember it that way”
The replies telling Senator Lucas this is a bad look or whatever are always so funny. In 2020 the Portsmouth Police charged her with two felonies for protesting a confederate monument. The chief of police and monument are gone; Senator Lucas is still here. Teflon, baby
@homunculusdick
@Jessifris
Also because of how isolated it’s been they have an extremely specific accent only spoken there where they sound as close to the original English settlers as anyone alive today.
The kicker is where Tiller was killed. He was shot in the head outside of the Lutheran church in Wichita where he was serving as an usher and handing out programs for the service. He was a religious guy, murdered because someone else had a fucked up idea of what that means.
This is literally how things become mainstreamed. Obviously the US isn’t going to leave NATO because of a DSA statement the government isn’t the target of the statement it’s people who never even considered the end of NATO
@IHateNYT
Brings to mind the mysterious disappearances of Jerry “Lens Cap” Robinson following the March on Washington and Reed “Sneezes at Really Unfortunate Times” Howard at Woodstock
@lol088055091638
Oh damn I only knew him as the kind and sweet wiener in GoT. Didn’t see Moonfall but could’ve got suckered in because I like Patrick Wilson and Michael Peña, good to know it’s a skip.
@bfeldman89
@MayaLMiller
lol just totally blowing off the most iconic and perfect image in millennia of anti-war activism is so good. Like if it were literally raining cats and dogs and a meteorologist’s editor was like “nope, you got nothing kid”
@adamjohnsonCHI
The refrain is just “well, release the hostages.” The old lady in the hospital doesn’t have any hostages! The toddlers and kids they’re massacring don’t have hostages! What are they supposed to do!
@rhodyDSA
My grandpa got melanoma and my dad got basal cell carcinoma twice and both required surgery to handle it. I think it’s cool that keeping people from dying from preventable cancer is cool.
It rules that whenever anyone gets dissatisfied with DSA their answer to the problem is “DSA, but everyone does what I say.” As long as everyone wants to be Lenin and no one wants to be Petrograd Soviet worker

that’s just gonna happen.

When I was in high school a dude sent a video of his girlfriend flickin the bean to everyone in his phone (who obviously forwarded it on) and was treated like a God so honestly it’s really refreshing to read that’s not what the response is anymore.
@EmissaryOfNight
When it happened there was an all staff call that evening and everyone was convinced he died and they just wanted staff to know first to be prepared to answer questions/break everything down but actually it was just Jeff going “yeah he’s actually insanely healthy and fine.”
Candidate services staffers the world over flying to swing districts in search of the Biggest Boys they can find. It’s clear which way the pendulum is swinging for the ideal Democratic candidate, and that direction is up and out.
Asked about his “Dearborn” and “ethnic benefit” comments, George Latimer accused Jamaal Bowman of trying to “play the ethnic game.”
From his interview with Good Day New York yesterday:
I say this every time one of these types of videos is posted but it really can be like this every time. There’s no reason politics and government has to be a joyless slog, we just have to decide to truly help people.
Every GOP consultant embodies the Blazing Saddles line “You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.”
@stanleyrogouski
@Boringstein
Because presumably they’ve read the book and actually know what it says? And I haven’t seen anyone who is Osage being upset about it and in fact the Principal Chief consulted on the film and has repeatedly praised it? You can pick either explanation.
@styloshka
I liked when he told the guy “that’s what we do in America” because cop brain is so hard-wired towards racism that anyone different is automatically considered foreign. Like, the orthodox dude he’s yelling is probably from like Bensonhurst lol
In recent years, Chileans have struggled to overturn their undemocratic political system and write a new constitution. Americans should take Chile’s lead and fight for a new Constitution too.
Paid parking in a country that makes driving basically a requirement for most people is a head tax that disproportionately impacts poor people, making free parking a progressive policy.
All jokes aside, I don't have any interest in treating JB like Bernie and papering over areas I really don't agree with him on. My metric here is that he would be a far better president than Biden 2024, during a cycle where I think it's clear the movement-left will have no horse.
Maybe I’m just cynical but it’s hard to read this as anything but a pretense for the authors to form a new NGO with almost no meaningful departure from existing ones, except that it has themselves at the helm.
Since Bernie Sanders’s defeat in 2020 and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the US left has been largely disorganized. The time is ripe for Bernie and the Squad to create a new mass organization to confront today’s crises.
Remember when
@charlesallen
tried to eliminate carjacking as a charge and said that “it’s not really kidnapping” when carjackers take a baby that’s in the car?
@PFTCommenter
A formative memory of mine is golfing with my dad in North Carolina and him finally finding his ball in the rough, trying to play it where it lies, cracking his club in half on a tree, and screaming “fucking club when farther than the ball did.” Sucking at golf rules.
It’s not even an uncharitable reading, this was a last ditch effort in divided government at the end of a term that basically adopted the policy of a right-wing House. I do not want the same border policy they want! If I did I would vote for them!
Clarence Thomas is a brilliant jurist because he boldly asks, “what if shit was completely different? Wouldn’t that change things? Bet you didn’t think of that, huh?”
