It’s quite simple. As a general rule essentials aren’t subject to VAT. A good example of this is biscuits. Biscuits aren’t VATable, they’re food. Chocolate biscuits, a “luxury”, are. Education, being an essential, isn’t VATable. Private education, being a luxury, will be.

@Femi_Sorry Last week we had to go out to collect our frightened daughter who'd been cat called on river bank by a large group of males. Too afraid to walk past them again to get home, she walked miles out of her way to the next bridge. Not relevant, but was covered from neck to mid shin.😡

@youngvulgarian This focuses on shopping/pubs/bars etc though, not office culture. I suspect even if ppl want to come to the office, the #costoflivingcrisis still a big factor. Once you've saved the cost of 5 lattes & a sandwich a week, plus travel, you can't unsee it.

Small charities don't have the resources to do that. @JustGiving makes it easy and cost effective for charities to collect donations. But they have staff and costs to pay. This is gutter journalism.

@cels1952 @PeterStefanovi2 None at all for trade with EU. All you had to do was put goods on lorry or post & invoice. Rest done via VAT accounting, no Customs. Simples. That's why easy for small biz. Anyone in cross border biz knew all this: Tory Govts pretended they could brush it all aside.
