RGV, in his latest interview, reveals that ARR had a row with Subhash Ghai because he was delaying music for Yuvvraaj. And he asked Sukhwinder to make a tune. ARR apparently said, “You are not paying for my music but for my name”. That tune was later used as Jai Ho. So humble!

#ilaiyaraaja has explained this before. Violinist Ganesh (of Shakti, a recent Grammy winner) explains it succinctly and shows how Raaja gradually reveals the raga. You can’t term the raga by the first few lines. Glad that the anchor didn’t ask Ganesh about Oru Veedu Iru Vasal.

In the same interview, Nandhakumar talks about the background score of Senthamizh Paatu and how #ilaiyaraaja did it in parallel with Thevar Magan. In 1992, Deepavali had 8 releases; Raaja scored 5 movies. Senthamizh Paatu - the songs were done by MSV - Raaja.

I can never forget this climax. The entire theatre was stunned and silent. Only, the voice of #Ilaiyaraaja echoing while the inevitable choice of Sethu is panning out on the screen. A classic example of how to enhance the impact of the movie.

In Dharmathin Thalaivan’s score, I like the Veena adaptation of Thenmadhurai. #Ilaiyaraaja uses it in only two places. Panchu Arunachalam writes a leitmotif scene that shows the transference of affection, and Raaja obliges with this very short piece.

#ilaiyaraaja is a lot more playful when it comes to scores. Again, it depends on the scene. Here, he does a wedding/folkish version of Oh Butterfly and then moves to the original version seamlessly. Also, this album came in 1992 - He scored for 40 Tamil movies that year.

The rights for the #Ilaiyaraaja 75 show are with Sun TV. I uploaded a video of Kamal singing Ninaivo Oru Paravai with Shruthi on Facebook. The post became popular in a few days. Sun TV gave a copyright strike and removed it. I didn’t monetise it.

Ilaiyaraaja would wholeheartedly agree that he is not above the trinity. He has consistently said he is not above his seniors like MSV, Naushad, SD Burman or Madanmohan. But for a judge to use that is what caste-based discrimination is all about.

The Flac Monkey Podcasts on #Ilaiyaraaja are nice but they are rife with factual errors. There were so many in the first one but this one in the second is nonsense. Ilaya Nila was the original and a simple search would have helped. Look at the mythical story that guy is creating.
