In the mid-00s my eldest was admitted to hospital for a few weeks & I stayed there with her. There was ~10yo Afghan boy there for eye treatment, damaged by blast. Turns out UK&US bombed his village & killed almost everyone. Him & his brother survived. They saw their family die.

This is a personal favourite: It's so timeless, the fruit & veg guy in his socks & hoodie, it could be today! But it's actually 112 years ago. Taken in a souk in the Tunis medina, Tunisia, this autochrome by Gervais-Courtellemont is original colour from 1909. It's not colourised.
