In case you were wondering……keep COVID rapids at home. And remember, not everyone with COVID is very very sick. A big new headache and fatigue alone can also be COVID. Testing let’s you #knowyourstatus , protect others and access treatment for those at high risk. #testingwin

So, many people have been asking why it is useful to still limit contacts, test where possible, wear a mask and be discretionary in limiting to ‘most needed’ contacts and events for a while….it reduces risk to those around you if you do get COVID. Here’s an example. 1/7

Some helpful context for the next weeks while we are in this respiratory season: masks and testing are tools, NOT restrictions. Even if mandated. They are part of our power to protect communities and still participate in #safecovidliving . They are not restrictions.

FACT: masks mitigate transmission and do not preclude gathering or daily living. There are no data that masks cause economic harm in any sector, but emerging data that removing them unfairly places a burden of isolation on the vulnerable. (6/11)

With current viral uncertainty, known benefits of masking, as well as the relative lack of economic or societal harm, we ask our vulnerable to maybe assume too much risk to convenience the rest of us if removed in the next months. Worth a solid reflection Canada. (11/11)

Saying the statements in tweet 9/11 next to ‘and therefore we need to remove masks and access to voluntary testing’ doesn’t actually mean it’s a valid reason. Yes, people may be ‘done’, but true leaders can inspire and motivate and make sure there is equity in responses. (10/11)

There is an excellent immunologic rationale to wait until early fall for an additional dose of COVID vaccine for people less than 65 who do not otherwise have a medical reason for an additional dose. Especially if you’ve recently had COVID or a booster dose less than 6 mos ago.

Agreed! Sometimes when we give airtime to the tiny number of people in a difficult headspace we negate the good. Keep doing good and being yourselves Nova Scotia! I’m so proud of our 99%!!!

We can meet this challenge, Nova Scotia!!!! Take home test kits are so important for knowing our community virus level - as always, if the solution isn’t readily available, we will make one. Let’s go!!! @nsgov @PHAC_GC @HealthNS @Doctors_NS @marahhaywood

Hey HRM! Starting tomorrow we’re going to be putting together 300,000 take-home testing kits in Burnside! But we can't do it without your help, we need 60 plus people a day to make this happen! If you have some free time please sign up at #testtoprotect

Soooo I’ve been articulating less eloquently….but….until we vaccinate all age groups, shore up the vulnerable vaccinated, have a season or two where post infection immunity is present, and virus (might) limit pathogenicity mutation, we are NOT endemic ready. @PHAC_GC @nsgov

Thanks @BeateSander & colleagues. Another very helpful presentation. Take homes for me: 1. Lots of uncertainty right now 2. Vaccinating kids aged 5-11 isn't going to change much until 2022 3. Individuals, organizations and governments should all try to do a bit more

Epidemiologists are very smart people….but you might want to get your information on testing from a testing expert NOT an epidemiologist. The idea that rapid tests aren’t a useful community tool at this stage of the pandemic is misinformation @travisfortnum

WATCH: Thousands of New Brunswickers spent their Saturday morning lined up as the province made rapid COVID-19 test kits available to the general public for the first time.

100%!!! I only use the term vaccinated for those who received all scheduled doses of a vaccine @nsgov @HealthNS @GovCanHealth @PHAC_GC @IainTRankin @StrangRobert

Can we pls stop referring to ppl who receive 1st dose as ‘vaccinated’? 60% with 1st dose is great milestone for sure. But we are not properly protected until 2nd doses received, esp vs. new VOC (~30% protection vs B.1617.2 with 1-dose AZ or mRNA vaccine). 2nd dose is key‼️

Yet again….. #novascotiastrong VOLUNTEER firefighters are a huge part of the NS fire response. Consider skipping a meal out or your take away coffee and move those dollars to support the firefighters.

Did we make the 1800 target? Not quite, HRM! Amazing effort though...1725 tests done today at the Halifax Concention center and a record day with @praxestelemed at the other pop up in sackville. Let’s try to break 1800 again tomorrow!!!! #grateful #crushcovid21 #testtoprotect

Pro tip: when out in the cold (or cold arena) wearing a mask for long periods of time, bring an extra mask! They get wet, damp and less effective (also don’t forget tissues for your cold nose, and dispose of tissues when a garbage is near). #safercovidcelebrate ! @chronicleherald

It’s this unpredictability and rapidly evolving knowledge of this virus that is challenging. Combined with population and leader ‘uncertainty fatigue’, we need to be very careful to keep moving ahead with caution, measurement, and planning.

Home tests. Not with the same strict regulatory needs as diagnostic tests but for engagement based asymptomatic home tests. Let’s go @GovCanHealth - these don’t have to be perfect.

In Germany you can get rapid COVID tests for less than a dollar each at the supermarket. Britain hands out 14-packs for free. Canada is giving them to small employers. In the US we have approved only a handful of rapid tests and they are expensive.

2. We will have been through a fairly fulsome period of population exposure that will add dimension to population immunity
