As a disabled physician, who after almost dying in a roll-over MVA in 1st yr residency and couldn't do nights once I returned, the ableist replies are sickening. I did more than my fair share in the 12 hours I worked to try to compensate for my ableist guilt,

It is F*CKING crazy that residency programs would rather LET GO of a trainee rather than exempt them from doing night shifts. Like is it easier to replace 12 months of a human than it is four weeks of nights??

I don't think ppl realize how close *anyone* can be to being high risk for COVID. Including themselves. Not only do ppl have overly positive bias to their health status, but there are things happening in your body you may not know about that COVID could worsen & bring to light.

I will never, ever, for as long as I live, understand what the big freaking deal is about wearing a mask to protect yourself & others from a virus that harms brain, gut, heart, lungs, immune system, blood vessels, & also other resp viruses that are worsening healthcare collapse.

The antidote to racism & white supremacy is anti-racism, not tolerance & middle ground. We can't tolerate racism. This is not political. This is about humanity. To appease, minimize, stay silent about racism is to condone, enable & support racism. There's no middle ground.

Time to reinstate an indoor mask mandate. Govts cannot say that "highly recommend" is enough. It is NOT. The desire to not stick out is psychologically powerful. Make it easy for everyone. Mandate masks, curb BA5 in time for schools to be safer. Have the courage to do it.

He knows this isn't his fault. He knows we're proud of him for being the *only* kid in his class and one of 2-3 on the bus to mask, eat lunch outside, bring his air purifier. Hoping he will get through this & that windows/HEPAs/masks will keep my husband and I from getting it.

@CMA_Docs @DoctorsOfBC @CFPC_e You say @CMA_Docs 's focus is on preventing MD burnout & health equity for our profession. Don't you think working in a hospital/facility that can give you a further disabling virus is a huge source of stress, burnout, & inequity via the ableism? /19

Going on private for a bit. The mask tweet has gotten in hands of American MAGA ppl who are violent/racist/misogynistic/xenophobic (ps I'm not a Chinese spyπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ)/selfish so I'm giving myself the gift of peace;also why I limited replies to it. I stand by it. Not afraid, just tired.

Every death of a person that should have received surgery or ICU care right now in AB should be counted in the number of deaths due to #COVID19 because that’s the truth. I’m so very sorry, Alberta. I weep for you esp my friends doing impossible things right now. I’m here for you

Thank you to the gym enthusiasts for teaching me that gyms are essential b/c *it's not the same caliber of workout otherwise*. We're in a pandemic. Life can't be ideal for one part of the population while being 100 times less than ideal for others. That's my point.

Has *anyone* in govt/PH *actually* given a valid reason for why masks are so unacceptable a layer of protection? That they rushed to prematurely remove them when they *actually* would help all interactions indoors in schools & work be more safe? I know it's a reminder that /1

A reminder that just because a person may be racialized (Black, Indigenous, South/East Asian, Middle Eastern, mixed-race etc), doesn't mean that they are anti-racist. The seductive power of white power/privilege means without active resistance, they can prop up white supremacy.

Canadians must wake up and realize our country is not what they believe it to be. That pediatric ICUs are at 200% capacity and bullies are intimidating school boards re masks is extremely chilling. This is TODAY. Stop believing that our societal crimes are in the past.

This isn't about freedom. This is active & overt oppression on full, unapologetic display that is threatening HCW, Black, Indigenous, racialized ppl, ppl of non-Christian faiths, disabled ppl, LGBTQ2S1A+, elderly ppl. This has been emboldened by prov mishandling of the pandemic

Locking down to protect my peace. Not because I'm scared or don't stand by what I have tweeted, but because I'm setting some boundaries & locking my doors to stop the bullies.

Wasn't going to post this. But given all the discourse that I saw on both TV & social media on Canada Day re the denial of all forms of racism in Canada, that national pride was argued by some as mutually exclusive from acknowledging of colonialism/racism, I feel I need to. 🧡1/?

Please, please, please send them directly to the people. Please. Or ask NS how they've distributed to the people and ensure that all provinces do the same. #COVID19

West spent 3 yrs using racism to describe COVID-Zero in China, now that they've literally gone to let 'er rip of West, there's racism & xenophobia a) gasp- they're travelling & bringing it to our [Western] countries b) how dare they affect supply change. #YellowPerilPersists

🧡I support MAiD for ppl who have all their needs met to thrive in society. I do assessments for MAiD (not provision) as a palliative care & family MD. I see a repetition of same mistakes. So much push for MAiD without concurrent resources & education put into alternatives./1

The utter rage on my Twitter feed is palpable by my Albertan friends & colleagues. Such a slap in the face for all who have/still sacrifice by following the rules & those on the front lines of healthcare & society. Utter lack of integrity+moral leadership by @jkenney UCP govt

Plea to any clinician treating pts w terminal illness: PLEASE don't say/write "there's nothing more to do" or "no treatment options left". As I told family of new #hospice pt today, to their tears of relief, we TREAT symptoms & CARE FOR ppl right to their dying breath. #hpm

If I had a toonie for every time a white person (usually men, some women) gave me unsolicited advice here on how I should couch/tone/frame my tweets regarding the existence of #systemicracism , daily racism, gendered racism, I could quit my day job. Thx for proving my point, tho

My full name is Amy Yuk Ying Tan- θšηŽ‰θ‹± (where there's no Amy). Growing up in Richmond, BC before there were a lot of Chinese people there, I was called "Amy Yuck" or "Yucky"; it was mispronounced++ That hurt was so deep that I tried to remove my middle name from my MD Degree/1

Canadians should have been ashamed when we didn't protect our elders esp in LTC. But we weren't. Canadians should have been ashamed when we didn't protect our under-protected essential workers. But we weren't./1

Hearing of so many people who've avoided COVID until now, getting it now. Is it because of the failure in public health messaging? That #COVID19 IS NOT OVER?!???!

People died in a tragic bus accident on Christmas Eve, the weather is causing people to be in harm's way & without power, there's a healthcare crisis that keeps getting worse, but the news has ++ stories on ppl who've lost their luggage or are stranded in warm climates. Ok, then
