@Key_NYR
Definitely crazier ones like that
Such as Barclay Goodrow finishing with fewer goals than Julien Gauthier, who hasn't played an NHL game in 3 months
@BroadwayHatsNYR
kakko put up 40 points as a 21 year old, including 37 points at even strength in under 15 min TOI, but he hasn't shown enough at the NHL level? and othmann is ready to step right in even though he hasn't produced at 5v5 in the AHL yet?
@JFreshHockey
This is the same shit different year
NYR has been horrible 5v5 for years and it's all because they have 2 below replacement level defensemen getting important minutes, and 3 of the worst zone exit/entry denial D men in the NHL, while Zac Jones collects dust in the press box
@BillTouspille
i saw him put 55/23 out there and was like wtf is he doing, then they came up ice, 55 got off, Panarin got on, and then i realized. i forgot there are people who are actually capable of formulating a plan
@vzmercogliano
your article should call it like it is -- NYR is scratching their best defensive forward after a game in which NYR held FLA to only 1 real goal and stifled their high-danger chance ability, all to play 4 minutes of rempe.
@NickZararis
seriously. it's not within his rights to reject a trade to a team on his approved list.
saying no to teams that he's putting on his "you can't trade me here" list is reasonable
saying no to teams that are therefore on his "you can trade me here" list makes him non-compliant
@vzmercogliano
i wouldn't be thrilled either if i'm constantly setting up my linemates for A+ chances, they aren't finishing, and then i get blamed for them not finishing
@JLazzy23
1. bob is in the crease
2. cirelli spins into the crease on his own
3. spin results in going into the crease and making contact with bob
of course that's getting called as goalie interference
@DaveyUpper
absolutely incredible work against 2 of the best defensive forwards in the league. no reason at all that the 3 of them aren't in the top 6 this year
@JhanHky
somehow you didn't point out that jacob trouba is absolutely nowhere near where he's supposed to be on the ice, which left the whole play open
@NYRLouie
idk what roslovic is supposed to do. he's single-handedly weaving 3 Panthers to get into the zone while cuylle and wennberg puck watch instead of get open to receive a pass
roslovic is just learning what kakko has had to deal with
@DaveyUpper
horrible pass but it's absolutely unacceptable that blake wheeler is on the ice, before fucking lafreniere no less
anyone with even somewhat decent footspeed closes that gap
@PhilKocher
sitting a guy who is 3rd among NYR Fs in 5v5 points in these playoffs, for matt rempe to play 4 minutes and do nothing, is remarkably absurd
@BlueSeatBlogs
because he completely took himself out of position to try to make a hit 45ft away from him and didn't even get to the puck carrier in time before it was already moved to montour, and then FLA had a 2 on 1 down low for the goal
like, you must be joking
@RLuker12
it is ludicrous that NYR will break up 10/16/13 to help Zibanejad instead of just putting him back with Kakko
for god's sake what is going on
@JLazzy23
NYR season was a fluke because this time Igor's ridiculous playoff GSAx wasn't good enough to make up for their bad xGF%. NJD meanwhile was top 2 in the league xGF% and ran into the only team better than them at it in round 2. They also did it without any of their top prospects
you can just smell NYR drafting Elick at 30
NYR trying to trade Trouba right now, while they have "Mini Trouba" on the roster, just to then select Elick who is basically Trouba/Mini Trouba, would be peak Drury
@JoeFortunatoBSB
jones was the only one creating 5v5 offense all night, it was absurd. guy was a zone entry machine with the puck and self-creating high danger chances off the rush
@NickZararis
Can't even do that without knowing his M-NTC list
That's just how deeply horrible this contract is
The transitive effects of it are even worse. Drury made decisions that NHL 24 wouldn't even programmatically allow you to make as GM and now it's costing us big time
@hockeystatcards
guy is one of the league's worst decisionmakers with the puck in his own zone and has been for years. no surprise here
but NYR is going to run 79/8, even more so in the playoffs, despite not even controlling 40% xGF%
@JLazzy23
Ask them why Jones isn't in the lineup
Or is everyone in the media going to pretend like zone exits aren't one of if not the team's biggest problem right now and that swapping Trouba for Jones would virtually solve it
@LouieBellina
Othmann and Berard bring nothing similar. Othmann is a PP merchant while Berard is a 5v5 dominant play driver
NYR has 3 forwards under 30 and they'd be clowns to trade any of those players for rentals
@vzmercogliano
actually i would believe it, because all 3 of bonino, goodrow, and trouba on the ice
at what point do you ask why bonino and goodrow have tenure in the lineup? they have a 19% xGF% against the san jose sharks
@vzmercogliano
if he doesn't want to put them on the spot then that's fine, but if he's going to sit there and pretend like trouba doesn't totally suck and that pair isn't an issue, then you may as well just end the season now
@SotoSzn1
@vzmercogliano
he's literally leading NYR in preventing quality and quantity against in these playoffs. he's been on the ice for a grand total of 2 5v5 GAs in 11 games. he is.
@NYRLouie
Trouba doesn't make a single play on the 1v1 with kuznetsov. just screens igor instead. guy's been on for CAR's last 4 goals. absolutely useless player
@JoeFortunatoBSB
i mean they could totally play that badly again. trouba is the worst zone entry denial Dman in the entire league and laviolette has no interest in taking him off high leverage D situations, let alone scratching him all together
@BlueSeatBlogs
i mean at least Wahlstrom is still on the team. NYR had a guy with some of the best forecheck metrics in the league, Kakko-esque 2nd year defensive metrics, and was frequently reported as being the first one on the ice at practice, and they threw him out to play greg mckegg
@JLazzy23
@NYRGrady
i don't even think it's a stretch, Rodrigues did the same thing: trying to compensate for poor positioning by throwing out an elbow
he may not have hit him in the head but he was still gonna clip him and I can imagine that still would've hurt, like a knee on knee for your arm
@PhilKocher
@frank_seravalli
How is the conclusion always that the players are bad and not that the team sucks at developing them, especially when every forward they ever draft fails to become what they project them to be
@NYRLouie
No chance. Laviolette is a hot hand fallacy coach. Same lines and pairs until they lose. The first person who should come out is Trouba and that's not happening. Lindgren didn't come out after game 1 despite being on for all 3 GAs
@IneffectiveMath
They can't exit with control and have virtually no idea how to run a cycle offense
When your 1C went 33 straight games without a 5v5 goal, this is kind of totally expected
@RealKyper
@MapleLeafs
@EdmontonOilers
@StarSports
@TorontoStar
The Colorado avalanche just demolished their way to a cup and neither of their goalies put up a .900%. Vegas just used a 4th stringer to win theirs. The Rangers have been trying for 30 years to win from the net out and haven't done it even with a top 5 goalie ever
@vzmercogliano
this is what you sign up for when you get an M-NTC
perhaps trouba should've not played so terribly, to the point of having to do this. also if I was his teammate, i'd be pissed at him for insisting on playing despite having a broken body part, ultimately hurting the team
@BlueshirtsBreak
Trouba for no reason jumped up into the play to do nothing useful and forced one of our forwards (Roslovic) to take his spot defensively, and then Trouba was caught up in the play while the Flyers had an odd man rush
trouba was directly responsible for that scramble
@vzmercogliano
interesting narrative spinning on that goal
a more accurate version would be "$8m a season and captain Jacob Trouba, who isn't good, fumbles an unpressured zone exit and the penguins immediately capitalize"
@AGretz
it's an M-NTC. if they're trying to trade him to a team that he approves of based on his list, then he is not free to reject that trade. in fact it makes him non-compliant and could theoretically put him in a position to not get paid and have his cap not count toward the books
@NickZararis
guy doesn't even trust kakko and he's his best defensive forward
he doubles Goodrow's TOI and they wonder why every final 10 min is a heart attack
@vzmercogliano
A seamless fit that he avoided for the last 3 months? The metrics from last year made it so obviously a fit if he wasn't going to put Kakko there. JFC imagine if Brodzinski was 3C and Vesey was 1RW since Kakko injury
@BigHeadHcky
@TheBrattPack63
NYR thinking that their more likely to get a cup if they keep him in the bottom 6 instead of make him 2RW is exactly why they don't have the cup and won't get one for god knows how long, definitely not this window
@vzmercogliano
imagine watching Vegas win the cup and then be proud of the fact that you hired another retread who's failed to win the cup in the last 20 with 3 different teams and bad coaching impacts to boot. NYR's going in a completely opposite direction from the way the game is played today
@NYRLouie
par for the course for kakko. team's best defensive forward, consistently makes plays, linemates don't finish, gets blamed
imagine putting anybody with the league's worst shot attempt rate forward and thinking they're going to generate offense
NYR is going to have at least 6 of Artamonov, Misa, Basha, Hutson, LSW, Plante, and Kiviharju available to take
how are they going to make this painful for me
