As a Black adoptee. I need y'all to realize that adoption has LONG been legalized human trafficking. These people want cute perfect babies as accessories. They don't want to help kids or they'd be helping the hundreds of thousands in foster care, but it's about molding kids.
Hearing White people who get Juneteenth off call it "a random day off in the middle of the week" while a LARGE percent of myself and other Black people will be working is as unsurprising as it is infuriating.
You owe a Black Mutual Aid fund money. Go pay it. I'm tired.
Black kids are already sold at a discount. Black families already denied the ability to adopt.
This is nothing new this is not some fiction novel. This is expanding what's been done to Black, Indigenous, and Latine people to White people because they want white babies.
September is Suicide Awareness Month and I am here to remind my fellow Mental Health Professionals that chronic suicidality exists and that hospitalization is not always the answer when someone confides ideation.
The kids trump separated at the border who were *misplaced* overwhelmingly found their way into foster care and adoption listings instead of back to their parents.
Palestine
Congo
Sudan
Yemen
Tigray
And So Many Others.
It's about Global Solidarity
The moral is we protect each other. The state, these companies don't care. We must care and join together.
Pride Month, Wrath Month, and The Power of The People Everyday. ❤️💜💙💚💛🧡
I won't even get into the most egregious cases like the Hart Family Murders and the Gravelle Couple keeping their kids in cages.
I never said ALL. But our adoption and foster systems is and has been horrible and traumatic since the start and continues to be.
Post WWII when the demand for adoptees grew, Black children were then considered. Then during the civil rights era there was a boom of putting Black kids with white families and denying service to Black families
*Update*
People, especially White people, stop asking whether it's ok for you to foster/adopt. You're asking a Black person you don't know for permission & that's a little fucked up. Do your work, figure out what helping actually looks like.
Then find out IF you even qualify.
Part of the systemic problem here is that adoption is impossibly hard for some and horrifically easy for others.
I'll say this again. This is a complex issue with nuanced complex steps needed to make change. This isn't just a "do I/don't I" as an individual type thing.
Generally, think systemically. Really interrogate what your conceptualization of having or helping a child is. (This is whether you birth, adopt,or foster)
And support abortion, birth control, comprehensive sex education, and family leave and care. Support family reunification.
I'm in IL where DCFS is in hot water AGAIN for failing to protect both kids who languish in hospitals FOR NO REASON and workers who have died due to poor work conditions. And just a bunch of other awful shit. Pay attention, join us in fighting for better.
Even here in the West, Black and Indigenous Healers have been pushing back against the bias and inadequacies of western colonial conceptualizations of trauma, mental health and healing for years.
1/6
Dr. Samah Jabr, Palestine’s head of mental health services, has been speaking about this for years. It is an injustice to the Palestinian people to describe their suffering in western & colonial terms, when they experience “justified misery.”
Hawaiians have been been telling y'all to fucking STOP GOING TO HAWAII! But you don't listen, which is why you surprised.
The selfish lack of care for the treatment and needs of the planet & life on it is why we are here.
Fuck Carl. I hope you have the the vacation you deserve.
Black Like Me came out in 1961! And that book was already trash.
Here we are just 63 years later and this dude is trying to do a reboot of this blackface bullshit.
63 years and White Men still won't just talk to and BELIEVE Black people about their experiences. GTFOH.
Therapists who claim it's ok or healthy for a therapist to see 30-50 clients a week cannot be trusted. That shows a lack of understanding of life balance, boundaries, & burnout. A disregard of the impact on clients.
Many of us do it or have had to, but it doesn't make it ok.
‼️Protest Tips‼️
Cover your face
Cover arms/legs
Don't take pictures/record/post
Turn your phone off at home, if possible don't turn it on again till you are home
Bring water & light snacks
Write the number for local legal aid on your inner arm near the elbow
Don't Separate

Y'all really will watch movies where colonizers be stealing from other cultures for greed and power then, sometimes even get hunted and killed by literal manifestations of the indigenous cultures ancestors for it and not get the message.
I shouldn't be surprised but wow.
The Dept of Education posts the crisis hotline, SCOTUS rules that discrimination is legal and debt forgiveness is not, and then the New York Times points out that killing yourself is one of the only ways to escape student loans.
As a Black Queer therapist I am LIVID.
Even for White western people, the idea of a non-traumatic baseline requires one to ignore inter- and trans-generational trauma which we see and suffer repercussions of daily.
The insistence on a linear, quickly identifiable, medicalizeable source and experience is damaging.
2/6
If you are mad about this, please listen to us mental health providers about companies like Talkspace and BetterHelp. They are also using people's MH data for marketing/profiteering.
People seeking help deserve not to have their pain preyed upon companies like these.
NEW:
A top suicide hotline is collecting data from people's darkest moments and sharing it with a for-profit company that is using the data to build and sell customer service software.
Our
@POLITICO
report on Crisis Text Line:
Medicalizing normal reactions to terrible context does not facilitate healing anywhere.
From Palestine to Sudan to Congo, and anywhere else be very careful what you attempt to use Colonial concepts of truma and mental health for where there is present & historical atrocity.
5/6
As Dr. Samah Jabr points out
"I question the methodology. I think they’re measuring social psychological pain and social suffering, and they’re saying this is depression,” she says. “What is sick, the context or the person?""
4/7
I cannot say silent about the WMS crew. I'm no longer bound by job and they've been harassing and attacking people who are anti-genocide since October of 2023.
This is what is now being called nobody reaching out or showing compassion and being aggressive.

Dear White Social Workers gearing up to "Help Black Peers Pass the Test!", (🧵)
1) Your saviorism is showing
2) I need you to understand that what your are saying is the you want to teach Black people Whiteness that is traumatic and damaging to us an our communities.
(1/10)
Y'all...
"Proposed Missouri bill would make teachers register as sex offenders if found supporting transgender students who socially transition"
I need to remind everyone that having supportive adults in their life reduces risks of abuse and suicide for youth. These Bills Kill!
Then when we try to export already dubious concepts into other populations in contexts where it's not even possible to tell the lie of a non-traumatic baseline, it just does more harm. More coloniality. More burying of indigenous knowledge, science, and medicine.
3/6
If you see that last tweet and say "but that's like everywhere!"
Then you see how vast the issue with these concepts is and you see why Dr. Jabr and so many of us world wide challenge them.

@shippyheart1
Get the training & support needed to support kids who have been harmed & need a good home. It may not be totally avoidable, but do your homework on where the kid came from. If you can get information on the parents and be ok answering and supporting when they inevitably ask.
Therapy/therapy adjacent companies need to realize that partnering with BetterHelp is a move that is toxic to business.
BH misuses & sells client data, underpays and mistreats therapists, and undermines basically every ethic of the field. You don't want to associate with them.
No. "Not voting out of protest" is NOT how we got here. I am so sick of this malicious lie. We got here by allowing politicians to be racist & ablist and allowing people to think voting is enough. We got here because of gerrymandering, not requiring accessible voting...

My Dearest Compatriots protesting reminders:
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PHONE! If you need one get a burner and don't turn it on until you get onsite.
Wear a mask/cover as much face as you can.
Write the legal resource number in you in permanent maker.
DO NOT TALK W/O A LAWYER
Maybe we all should have incorporated, gotten PPP loans, paid off our student loans with them and then gotten the PPP loans forgiven. 🤔

Colonizers can't imagine decolonization without genocide because settler colonialism requires genocide.
Once again the fears of the oppressor come not from the oppressed but the fear of others gaining power and behaving like them.
@shippyheart1
I don't have all the answers so talk to adoptee orgs to see what agencies have been flagged as bad actors.
And if you decide to do transracial adoption, do the work and make sure the kid is connected to their heritage without shame.
CW: Domestic Violence, Abuse mentions
*
As a trauma professional I'm again suggesting that folks refrain from posting and reposting graphic descriptions and details of abuse and violence.
Especially if a) you don't include warnings and b) it's not your narrative to tell.
Cluster in groups of at least 3 when leaving the march/protest
Do not egg on cops
Do not talk to the police without a lawyer.
Be careful of drones
Watch out for plain clothes officers
Listen to the protest organizers/marshals

A psychiatrist/coworker I was arguing with about a client who was "high functioning" but at the start of mania. I was making the point that Bipolar doesn't have one look. Story didn't end well.
...NO! Just Fucking STOP
From a trauma specialist perspective I'm livid & disgusted the words about how DAMAGING this is are rolling over themselves
As a basic sentient being I am fucking nauseous at this and the stories in the comments.

BREAKING: While teaching a class to high school students on Wednesday, Burlington police officers staged a surprise demonstration in which a masked gunman burst into the room and pretended to open fire. The lack of warning sent students diving for cover
This whole thing is as unsurprising as it is horrible.
From the original omission, to not tweeting this directly from the

I think it's important to speak up when people are being singled out. Jae is not alone.
Jordan is not alone.

Archaeology and Anthropology are a set of just deeply problematic twins in this way and my field Psychology is their very close cousin who grew up spendin summers with them.
I was not shy about leaving TT for them refusing to acknowledge the genocide and I will not be shy about supporting everyone who is pulling out of Gen Con if they remain complicit.

The state and the wealthy. There is so much more to this issue. The private agencies, the foster to prison pipeline, the use of family policing and separation to enforce control and compliance in communities. And of course, then the use of success stories to continue the cycle.

Does anyone else think that our grad schools don't teach us the business of social work, because if we knew we wouldn't accept nearly as much of the worker exploitation that the field is built and thrives on?
Pretty sure that content is omitted on purpose. 👀
Let me be absolutely clear
I. DO. NOT. GIVE. A. SHIT. BOUT. THAT. WHITE SUPREMACIST TERRORIST.
(Reading this later & don't know who I'm talkin bout? GOOD! That's the point)
I care about the systems which make these people & value them more than any Black life.
Stop the system.
This is why we need to teach people that joy HAS to be part of the fight.
Liberation is not attainable when people feel/think like this because it's not sustainable.
Being able to experience horror, feel & maintain connection to hope and joy is a skill we don't talk about enough.
Then I realized it must be because they’re looking away. Nobody could know the things I now know and hold these horrors inside of them and not want to do Anything to bring awareness to what’s going on.
So I realized, my friends, are looking away from what’s happening. By choice.
A reminder, I am A therapist. I am not YOUR therapist (and if I am you know better than to tweet/DM me).
Please do not DM me your detailed situations and/or medical information. I don't want it, I will not answer it and Twitter is not a secure or appropriate contact route.
Social Work was so busy trying to be like every other profession for clout, that it forgot that we are SUPPOSED to be different so we can address and stand against the traumas and oppression of other professions.

Who said outrage or angry? I fucking love The Mummy! You kidding me?! I own them movies and can quote that shit!
I just also know that there is a lot of deeply ingrained colonialism in in and that is a symptom of a MUCH bigger issue.
Nice try though. Hope your day improves.
Nationality =/= Race =/= Ethnicity
Whether you are in TTPGS, Mental Health, Research, Theater, Sports or anything else, you need to understand this.
The shape of our societies is centered around these groupings and your conflations of them is harmful.

Presenters, If you have the option to use a microphone, DO IT.
I never want to see a person who is trying to use a captioner wince because the presenter declares they are "loud enough without it".
No. You aren't. Don't be ableist. It is an accessibility issue.
Use. The. Mic.
What is "legal" is NOT the same as what is ethical or moral.
Just because a person or company didn't break laws doesn't mean what they did and how they responded wasn't harmful.
Being trauma informed and respecting survivor agency is a bare minimum.
Sooo someone has made a fake account using the old username of a Black Queer dude who did harm in the TTRPG space and is now using it to further upset, trick and harass the people he harmed ...
Fucking disgusting
Be careful folks. Block and report.
This BIPOC Mental Health Month I REALLY would like to see us talking about mental health and wellness in ways that don't just keep applying White Colonial conceptualizations and "treatments" to us in the same ways that have been harming us for decades.
Mental Health Take Version: The use of "filler" episode as a negative belays the shift in society towards hyper-productivity & the infection of said paradigm into art.
The demand for every episode to be jam packed is a manifestation of grind culture and is bad for wellness.
I actually like “filler” episodes a lot and miss them in mainstream media, as they give characters necessary space to breathe and reflect. A travel montage is coming up in Last Hope that I hope does exactly that, because I LOVE watching RP heavy scenes and episodes 👀✨
To clarify for folks these unpaid internships are MANDATORY for graduation. It is forced labor that many organizations and government services rely on to function.
All these ignorant trolls being like "you should pay back what you owe/promised!" as if many of us with student loans haven't already paid more than we borrowed, but have balances that are still higher than what we borrowed.
Cancel All of it.

Today is Mother's Day. Please remember that it is not a happy day for all. Many people have lost their mothers. Many had/have abusive mothers they have cut off, and many people have lost children.
Regardless be kind this Mother's Day. Grant people their privacy & peace.

Someone help me find a con that'll bring me out to teach an Apologizing for Content Creators Workshop and How to Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself - Critical Consciousness Building and Compassionate Self Assessment for Everyone.
Because it's clearly & desperately needed.
The thing with living in the United States that a lot of folks outside of here don't know is that you can have a "good job" and health insurance and still have months where you can't fully afford groceries or medication.
It is terrifying and exhausting.
This conversation and the dismissal of the rest of the group after is how I learned that any requests for information/education were in bad faith. A genocide and no facts resulted in any movement or acknowledgement of harm.
2/7
In the short time knowing particularly Syrup and Duval there were multiple conversations where folks tried to educate about why it's important to ban racial slurs (Syrup). Why ignoring consent and safety tools at the table is unacceptable (Duval). And more.
3/7
I've been working so I'm catching up. But I have a few things to say.🧵
1) The reason we as a society and various subcultures lack community it because when things are hard, when we do harm, when it stops feeling instantly fun or profitable, folks just leave.
1/10
There is a lot more that could be said but the important thing is that there is a genocide. WMS Crew has remained silent and only periodically spoken up because at the root they do not condemn settler colonialism & resulting genocide. They refuse to understand the situation.
6/7
If you think that Senator Sinema is an anomaly as a social worker, then you don't know enough about the profession of social work.
And for all the White Social Workers actin all surprised and like you don't know how this could happen, quit it. You know this is standard.
After I shared my experiences, these screenshots and information others provide both related to the Zionism and unrelated, other companies, organizations and people did their own assessments and also removed the WMS group.
5/7
Are we ready to address the mis- and over-use of the term "community" to the point where most people don't know what community is nor how be in right relationship as a community member?
Shall we also talk about how the language of "content creator" is a vehicle of dehumanization
The biggest lie that capitalism and social work tell is that we can't afford to pay interns.
As a practice owner, I have seen the math. I've looked at it with my financial advisor. It is not much different than any part time employee.

But it was this conversation and the Zionism and moving into victim/attack mode and finding out about numerous harms and lack of accountability that convinced me removing them was the best solution to address reports and my own growing concerns.

Conflating Israel with Jewish people is bad faith.
Conflating antizionsim with antisemitism is bad faith.
Conflating support for Palestinians with terrorism is bad faith.
Conflating being antigenocide with antisemitism is bad faith.
The US GOVERNMENT IS ACTING IN BAD FAITH!
I want to note that in addition to how many good people have been kept out of social work I have other questions:
How many families have been ripped apart because of social workers who embody the test materials?
How many more people are incarcerated? Needlessly Hospitalized?
When the fruits of racist labors come to light (like what's happening with ASWB), there are always Well-Meaning (predominantly) White Folks who want to help by teaching the targets of said harm to do better/be more resilient. It is racist & colonial.
We as social workers need to remember that our profession only exists in it's present form because our society is actively harming people and we are frequently agents of maintaining that harmful traumatic status quo.
Lady Gaga admitting doing 5 shows with diagnosed covid and acknowledging that everyone involved, including fans were at risk and getting cheered for it is everything wrong right now.
We are a nation of zombie bite concealers.
Yesterday a white woman social worker told me, (while misgendering me) she doesn't think job/practice experience is "rigorous" because "somethings you can't learn on the job"
It's s so elitist, classist, colonial. These folks don't understand how oppressive they are.
#SocialWork
Listen folks. I'm a Black Queer trauma therapist in a world that that won't even agree that genocide is bad and should be immediately ceased.
Most days I feel like a fucking bandaid on the Titanic and not even a waterproof one!
If you feel like you are downing you're not alone.
What is infuriating with white colleagues is that they will hear the stories. They will see your tears. They'll express sympathy and acknowledge the injustice.
And then they turn around and do the exact same stuff. Then wonder why you are angry and call your anger inappropriate.
Hey folks 👋🏾 I'm a trauma therapist, mod, and streamer.
Would people be interested in a stream and possibly eventual workshop on trauma responsive de-escalation, community building and management?
More streamers need to learn crisis aversion, community leadership, emotional management and so many other things cuz yall can’t keep posting your vulnerable viewers on here for some likes and streamer takes. We are real people.
Using the Term "Final Solution" in the case of a genocide is not a gaf. Not a mistake. It is on purpose and means exactly what it meant 80 years ago.
Total annihilation of a population. That is what the United States and Israel are doing and aiming for.
Do not be silent!
US ambassador to the UN, after vetoing a Gaza ceasefire resolution:
“We will continue to actively engage in the hard work of direct diplomacy on the ground until we reach a Final Solution.”
👍👍👍
That is the constant fine print in academia and nonprofits.
The same passion, ethics, values and rigor these institutions seek us out for are also the ones they push us out and fire us for when they realize the analysis doesn't just stop at the door.
It is wild to me for NASW to invoke the Code of Ethics while actively failing in applying it in practice.
Continuing to both sides a genocide is malpractice.
Failing to assess assess power dynamics, needs, and trauma on micro, mezzo, and macro levels is poor practice.

in the U.S. Social workers should work together to reach understanding & help heal divisions caused by this conflict.
Never forget that the lack of care and compassion around protecting the public from COVID-19 is the direct result of racism and ableism that became policy.
Mass incarceration paired with denying voting rights to formerly incarcerated folks. We are here because we are in a country so racist and complacent that the blowback for a Black President is full on fascism and the population doesn't reliably and en mass reject it.
