🗞️ We’re saying goodbye Yonder…
Well, only the name. Today, we’re making some changes and renaming from Yonder to Kota as we embark on the next chapter in our journey.

Free Now's 'Technology Fee' is no longer a set amount. It's dynamically priced based on the vaguest of factors.
Didn't realise this was legal in the Irish market.
BYOB, as we've been calling internally for the last few weeks, is a simple but deadly release. It increases the aperture further; it means you can add your existing core or flexible benefits, support larger teams with more complex offerings, and bring something new to the market.
🚀 NEW: Today, we’re launching ‘Bring Your Own Benefits’ on the Kota platform - giving you all-in-one payroll reporting for benefits and letting your team manage everything from their health insurance to their bike-to-work schemes from their pockets.
People like Eamon enable 'good chaotic energy' people like me – to help channel that energy toward a more worthwhile cause 😅
I am eternally grateful for that and lucky to have
@BroadstoneVC
in my corner.
I first met
@Luke_Mackey
in 2016, because he wouldn't stop emailing me 🤣
He was building a startup straight out of college, and he was full of the good chaotic energy that often comes with someone who has started building something for the first time. (1/n

So it’s not narrowing the path then, you just don’t like that someone is trying to accommodate EV car charging through their on street parking? I thought this was rather progressive and should be encouraged rather than inhibit the use of EV.

I’m looking to hire a go-to-market generalist, to work alongside myself and our GTM function at Yonder.
You’ll be context switching to support the team on outbound, partnerships, content – plus anything else that moves the needle on growth. 🚀
NEW: Introducing Embedded Health Insurance ✨
The technology infrastructure and integrations we built to power our solution can now be used by our partners to improve their distribution.

t’s been a formative year for the team at Kota; we’re incredibly proud of what we’re building and the impact it’s been having on companies and their people.
Here is just some of what we did this year...
We’re hiring our first full-time product designer at

I was in a pub as a child and saw a guy stretched out with his feet up on a stool. I ran up to him and told him it’s very rude to do that and he should take his feet down.
Turned out it was Pierce Brosnan. He laughed and bought me a coke. Best Bond for this very reason.
Last week at
@JoinYonder
, we released HRIS Sync – giving companies the ability to sync their HR tool to their insurance and retirement plans, removing hours of manual entry. This is a first for Europe, so I wanted to show how it works
🚨We’re proud to be leading the €5 million Seed round of

In the blog below, EQT Ventures Principal Naza Metghalchi explains why we’re joining Kota's journey. 🚀

Until you can name a European capital with worse public transport than Dublin, I’d suggest this guy goes back to making Dublin City a place people even want to drive into.
Is there any other airline that mid-flight decides it’s ok to change the destination airport? Last night
@Ryanair
left my fiancée in Rome instead of Naples, meaning she needed to take a 6 hour bus journey in the middle of the night…
Ambitious people rarely go into politics.
Power hungry / nepo babies do though; which is why we are led by a bunch of status quo bearing social climbers with a fetish for slow, expensive, tiring incrementalism.
The dearth of ideas in Irish politics is incredibly disappointing - Eamon Ryan calling for an expansion of the State in yesterday’s Irish Times & the major initiatives touted are the expansion of the regulatory state.
Incentivise making things. Not burying us in bureaucracy.
We're hiring at
@JoinYonder
👋
- Our first Senior GTM role working with me to build out our sales and partnership motions
- A Chief of Staff to work with the founders and help us move even quicker
We've got some incredible VCs and investors at Yonder, who add insane levels of value and support.
Broadstone has been one of them – cannot speak more highly of them. Great opp to join them early.
👋 SOME NEWS
We're inviting twenty angel investors to join us investing in a new generation of high-potential and globally-focused founders.

Recently moved into a new apartment, and of course every floor is the same.
I just got off the lift and stormed into an apartment thinking it was mine and met the actual owner in the hallway…
Really not getting off on the best foot with the new neighbours..
Dublin is a town, not a city. It’s ability to progress is in the hands of stubbornly lethargic, unambitious bureaucrats who don’t actually care what it’s people want. Gut wrenchingly depressing watching it’s continued demise.
Wow, what a year – our first, and one to remember. Next year you’ll see a lot more of what we’ve been up to, but here’s a quick snapshot…

Irish banks (which are part owned by the government) are getting pummelled by Revolut and the *only* thing they have is security/treasury - yet they refuse to leverage this by way of interest rates returns to customers. It’s idiotic.
Just because SVB had ‘Silicon Valley’ in its name, people keep confusing depositors, as investors.
If any major corporate bank can just fail and people sit on sidelines and say “you took that risk” then what is the point in regulators and government.
This is such a narrow minded trend.
Building remote companies has nothing to do with dedication and everything to do with ambition. Ambition to work with the best people, no matter where they live and think global from day 1.

It’s war out there if you’re getting a taxi in the centre.
I ordered a taxi. He arrive, pulled into an inlet beyond where the pin was. I walk up and rolls down his window asking for my name.
Then goes “You’ll have to be quicker than that!” Drove off and cancelled the trip.
Just how easy is it to set up and manage health and retirement benefits for a scaling team? Well, we’ve made it pretty simple ✨

Is that like how Google is a Russian success story?
Patrick actually has a blog post on why he couldn’t have started Stripe in Ireland (below)
Just in: as part of the layoffs, Snap is shutting down Zenly, location-based social app with ~40M MAUs, growing fast.
Zenly is (was?) very popular in Japan, SE-Asia, Eastern EU. Snap is not even spinning it off: it's just shutting it down, vey soon.
Zenly employees are stunned.
Insane that Bill Ackman legitimately thinks Ubers tech could sync to Curb (yellow cab tech) in realtime and would show applied tips in Uber — then tweet this. They get paid after the fact.
The comments are even worse.
I took an
