Recycling -- especially mixed recycling -- is a bit of a lie. It's in a way better than nothing but so far away from where we need to be and the system gets in the way of getting where we need to be. The plastics, packaging and waste industries have made sure of that.

€30 for a adult and child ticket from Ballina to Castlebar is maybe the reason the bus is more than half empty? This is a trip to our local hospital. In Co Dublin you’d travel further and you could do the trip over and over again, and not pay more than €10.80* a day.

Here is where #farmers storm the EU area at Maalbeek near EU HQ. "It looks like civil war" say EU officials as tractors overwhelm police. #FarmerProtest2024 #FarmersProtest2024

Minister @EamonRyan has become a hate figure for many, largely because it suits the agenda of people who don't want a more sustainable future. But the way his communications are handled cannot help.

Nobody has been denied access to the city -- access has been maintained to all car parks. And the Port Tunnel is not the only route available. This is "car brain" at work:

@MissusVee Absolute joke. They build a port tunnel to keep traffic out of the city then they deny me access to it and make me drive through it to get home. City is a joke.

Pitch for a game: Sim City 4 with realistic parking needs for the planning and the transport network choices made by the player.

“Fun fact: SIM City was forced to pretend that all parking lots were underground because the game would be really boring if it was proportional in terms of parking lots.” Really boring like too many real cities & suburbs? V/ @devonzuegel #ThePowerOfParking

It’s madness that these advertisements are allowed at all under the guise of being pay phones, but especially when it means footpaths are narrowed like this:

For example, this unit on Abbey Street is facing the wrong way. According to the site layout plan, the advertising should face eastwards away from the Luas stop. Although, that would result in a lot fewer people seeing the ad. Easy mistake.

Some people are under the mistaken view that I just love cycling and that's it. You can love more than one thing at once? Cycling isn't going to get jealous that I also love public transport and am passionate about making places walkable too. I'm a sustainable transport nerd.

Fair play to anybody who can afford to travel from Ireland overland to mainland Europe. -- Sail and Rail and Eurostar/Dutch Flyer generally cost at least twice the cost of flying. -- Plus: On the way back it will often require an extra hotel night. I've had people on here...

Honest to god, did @mhealyrae not have even a drop of a notion of who @RoisinGarvey is before going head-to-head with her? The Healy Raes are populists and popular, but the media needs to stop treating rural Ireland as a monochrome.

Sterling performance by @RoisinGarvey in cutting through MHR’s populist spiel with a large helping of facts on @RTE_PrimeTime last night. Greens really have come out swinging.

A group of businesses and residents in Dundrum who want to maintain higher car use watched their traffic 'expert' compare @greenparty_ie leader @EamonRyan to the Nazi's Gestapo. No apology has been forthcoming since and most of the media...

Come on @simoncoveney — stop talking rubbish on @RTERadio1 — the St Patrick’s Days parades and pubs mostly closed because of social and polictal pressure, not just medical advise, @LeoVaradkar was defending not closing restaurants when international advise was to close such.

“Must get in front” syndrome — where motorists feel they need to pass out people on bicycles regardless of road conditions — is something that needs to be tackled by the @RSAIreland and @GardaTraffic in driver training level and in safety campaigns...

If you live or own a house close to being over a planned metro line, is that a conflict of interest you should disclose while writing a large number of newspaper articles against the project?

PBP hate the Greens so much that some of their members are sounding like the anti-cycling lads on Facebook. "You cannot expect everyone to cycle"? FFS, seiousely? And claiming a sustainable transport and greening project does nothing for the environment and biodiversity?

PBP voted against a modal filter that would have just pushed more traffic on to a further up road & fought for an accessibility assessment. You can't expect everyone to cycle - how many disabled and elderly people could take a bike for their groceries and hospital appointments?

Spotted an old man finding it hard to cross a street in Ballina. Motorists kept going as if he wasn’t there. At first, I didn’t take it in what was happening, it’s so normalised. Then a wonderful lady on a bicycle stopped beside him to use her bike as barrier to stop cars. Hero!
