I'm pretty skeptical of folks saying "only Israel could get away with X". The US government literally concluded that the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar were "providing clandestine financial and logistic support to Isis" and they didn't cut off arms sales.

This fits well with my experience. I think encountering the โ€œhostile to Israel, not hostile to Jewsโ€ cohort changed my whole worldview. I had to update my whole ideology to adjust for the existence of a big group of people Iโ€™d thought did not exist.
