People are mostly NOT directly experiencing these things, though. Most of what people know about these problems is learned indirectly, secondhand. The problem is that you can also become very worried, secondhand, about problems that don't even exist, like a nonexistent recession.

When teachers who get paid via your tax dollars begin to treat your children as diseased animals who need to be isolated from them instead of human beings who need to be educated, people get pissed. We warned yโ€™all in 2021.

@regwag2003 She's not even railing against Kasich though, she's railing against the imaginary Democrats who are saying that Kasich was more important to Biden's victory than black voters.

Positive spin: Biden is running slightly ahead of Clinton's margin everywhere but Miami-Dade and it looks like turnout is up so it's still plausible he pulls out a close win.

Chait is so mad about getting dragged for his transphobic attack helicopter story that he's fully become a second-tier internet troll full time. The saddest part is that I genuinely don't think he realizes that's what he is now.

My view is that when a sleazeball like Hunter Biden or Clarence Thomas exploits the rules to do something unethical, you should change the rules rather than defend the misconduct

@magi_jay Also the big thing that Republicans were opposed to re: Kavanaugh was a full investigation into the claims by the FBI and journalists, whereas Biden practically begged everyone to seriously look into the claims.

@AlainnFocail @mikealelliott @saedo42 @WhitneyM02 Right. "Spilled her coffee" was actually suffering significant burns because the coffee machine was faulty and had heated the liquid to scalding temperatures.

@magi_jay I would say a bigger point is that the kind of people who say it don't actually know anything about European politics.

The reason for this, of course, is that Sinema and Manchin have completely disproven the Green Lantern theory of caucus management, but Do Something Twitter absolutely cannot admit to being wrong about anything, ever.

The thing is, we do the try and fail thing and you guys give it zero credit and pretend there was a double super secret way for it to pass. This includes voting rights, where Dems tried for months to get the filibuster overturned for it. You all act like it never happened.

Seriously if you're going to make a post like this you really should come right out and EXPLICITLY state that you're advocating against Germany's anti-Nazi rules.

He fled the United States because of George Bush's reelection. Unfortunately, he made a new home in Germany, which is now prosecuting him for a tweet. We take the First Amendment for granted at our own peril.

This is, in fact, not what happens when you lose a war

The choices are not "endless war" or "the withdrawal exactly the way Biden did it." Biden could have ended the war AND put the necessary mechanisms into place to resettle and protect the Afghans who fought for human rights, democracy, women's rights, and the rights of minorities.

@magi_jay The obvious problem with "abolish police" is that when you follow up with "ok,bthen what" people start talking about building new structures that sound a lot like police.

This is where I think it's helpful to recognize the ways in which activism as we often understand it is actually quite anti-democratic.

I think activists really underestimate the harm they do by coming off as assholes. If you want people to allow you to change the world, they have to trust you! "Let's give the reins of state power to gleeful sociopaths!" Is just not going to happen.

@ArmandDoma @TWLadyGrey No the Biden campaign is not unskewing polls. They have their own polling operations that have a lot more resources behind it than the public polls. Campaigns do not use data from public polling outfits at all.

Observation after running errands: About 95% of people wearing masks in stores, pretty much no one wearing them in outdoor settings. Makes me think the blue check obsession with this is just about trolling the libs for attention.

@RottenInDenmark When you have a chance, I'd love for you state a clear position on 1) whether Reed's allegations on the whole are remotely plausible and 2) if proven to be mostly/entirely correct, would the practices she is alleging be bad?

Think it really needs to be noted that stuff like this isn't just about paranoia, but about rage and looking for a chance to commit a "justifiable" homicide.

Knocking on the wrong door or pulling into a driveway should not, in and of itself, be reason to assume someone is Charles Manson. It seems like a lot of people are super afraid and super paranoid, of late.
