Have to be totally honest, I’m preparing to move house for the 4th time in a year because of rotational training and I couldn’t give a damn if you call me a resident or a junior. Also still get called an SHO despite 10+ years of ST terminology.

@NHSBartsHealth @BMA_JuniorDocs You get that the issue isn’t the video it’s you having clinical staff getting changed in toilets, having locum rates slashed, no lockers, working on bins etc etc whilst you provide mindfulness areas “on every floor” for the admin team? How little do you respect your clinicians?

@alexandra_DBmed Happened to someone I know. Acute in patient but was made to wait months to finish med school officially over a pointless exam that could have been mitigated. So sorry that’s happened to you, I know lots of HCPs that work well in chairs etc. you’re not alone. This is a disgrace.

@PhilipBrayshaw If you’ve taken 20 years to start thinking about scope you can’t be angry when the doctors supervising PAs practice take matters into their own hands. And frankly having the BMA do this is more relevant than eg RCP deciding surgical PA scope.

@LBC 87% of paediatric doctors have concerns about this issue as per our royal college. You aren’t going to make everyone shut up by saying it’s bullying and I’m way more moderate on PAs than most here Frankly ignoring these issues for 20 years has caused this and it’s awful for PAs

I’m a Paeds ST1 and my wife is an O&G ST1 and we work in the same hospital right now which work/life balance wise is difficult but I just watched her deliver a baby for the first time and it was incredible.

How little should we work for before we are allowed to strike? My starting salary was £12.51 an hour. Give me a number. Minimum wage? Free?

My heard bleeds for the PAs I know who are being subjected to an awful public debate that should have happened 20 years ago before they were introduced. Drs have raised concerns and been ignored and, yes, bullied for this. You need to listen. Now.

Worth mentioning about #breathtaking my mum is a GP. My granny was dying of oesophageal cancer at the time. She was forced by the NI government to work shifts in the Covid centres. Huge risk of exposure. It was clear she HAD to do this. She’s worked her whole life for NI people.

@UnionistCentri1 @BBCNewsNI Actually we were offered a 6% pay rise starting in April after having had 0% for the past 2 years. Then they refused to discuss further until England negotiate with their doctors. So no they aren’t looking at it.

@UnionistCentri1 @BBCNewsNI Actually you’re wrong. We’ve had meetings with them. This is not about the budget. They will not discuss pay any further. Also we had a vote to get a mandate and now legally have to call a strike of a minimum of 24hrs to keep that mandate. It’s a very reasonable approach.

@PhilipBrayshaw It’s a scope of practice for doctors to follow. This is what the union will support them in supervising. The BMA is its members and frankly having been ignored for so long it’s time for other people to listen to doctors concerns.

@ollieburtonmed Grand but if there’s a hospital in the middle of nowhere, with poor facilities, with poor opportunities for research and career advancement, that would otherwise struggle to recruit? Incentivise going. Don’t force people to with the threat of their career ending.

Seeing so much abuse from #breathtaking about how some NHS people did TikTok etc. I was lucky during Covid and started on a mainly elective surgical job. A few months in I got moved to the morgue. I had to verify the dead bodies because the resp doctors didn’t have time.

I also know one of the nicest, happiest people I’ve ever met, one of the most caring doctors I’ve ever met had a complete breakdown on the wards one day because he was so sick of watching people die every day. Peak of 12 people in one shift. He’s happy now in New Zealand.

No not everyone in the NHS was flat out 24/7. Some of us got redeployed to morgues. ICU to assist nurses. On the “rolling” team to flip patients from their backs to their fronts. I did all of that in my first 6 months as a doctor.

I like a lot of the PAs I’ve worked with, and I get trying to please everyone and be kind and respectful but I think we have to put the patients 1st.

@RobJimFleming Not that it’s right but I suspect that with trainees it would make more of a difference. If yours all quit or are removed the trusts will lose a funded employee and have to resort to locums etc Whereas treat an SAS doctor badly and you can replace or threaten them (eg img visa)

The Northern Irish government define full time work as 30+ hours a week. If I went 50% “less than full time” as a doctor I think I’d meet this.

@BMA_NI @ChrisSmith2211 If anyone’s on the fence - you make £12.80 an hour starting salary here. England it’s £15 now. They’ve been offered 8.8% pay rise up from 2% since striking. Scotland didn’t even need to strike to get a better one. We’ve been offered 0%. Less than their opening offer.

@DrEilidhMaria Easier, cheaper and quicker to get from NI to Liverpool than eg Southampton to Liverpool. I think people are taking issue with acting like NI is some far off, desert island that is totally inaccessible. It’s also not going to be £13 an hour for incoming F1s.

@hannondavid1979 @BBCNewsNI €49,000 but less hours and increases quicker. Starting consultant salary? NI £89,000 for 40 hours a week. ROI €275,000 for 37.6 hours a week. The ROI consultants rejected the above contract and are demanding more. Btw did I mention we’re haemorrhaging consultants to them?

Waitlists for it are already in the hundreds. This is not their role. To say nothing of the absurd financial disparity that highlights.

@BMA_NI Okay then we strike and escalate rapidly. Scotland and Wales are managing to negotiate just fine alongside England. I took an £8000 pay cut to move back home from England, I’ll happily leave again if this isn’t fixed (along with our other issues)

Also that consultation clearly states the goal is for PAs to work autonomously, prescribe, and move to a direct entry route. I thought we’ve been being told supervision etc is vital?

@moneillsf Utterly pointless if you’re not going to fund the degrees there. Why on earth can grad entry medical students not get a student loan like all other grad students in the UK and Ireland? It’s wrong, it’s unfair, and it makes this degree impossible for most.

@BBCNewsNI @BMA_NI Refusing to negotiate until England settle is pathetic. We don’t have the same contract as England. It’s worse. I moved home and took an £8,000 pay cut this year. No overtime pay. So many QOL issues. If it’s not fixed I’m gone as is my wife, following hundreds of drs.

@RobinSwannMoH I hope at some point you'll also look into funding the graduate medicine programme in Derry and those in the rest of the UK. Grants and loans available to the entire UK are denied to NI students. I've been trying to raise this with you and previous ministers for 7 years.

@hines_stephen @CCWearmouth I’ve led an arrest as an F2 as the only person in a psych hospital with ALS training. You are so ignorant here it’s ridiculous. Even just being able to anticipate what will happen at an arrest is vital to know how to act and adapt.

Glad this is finally happening. I’ve been talking to politicians about it for nearly 13 years and getting told no repeatedly. The health minister turned me down just a couple of months ago. So so needed and so happy this is happening.

@DrNickTwit @RCPCHtweets I think having mandatory courses like NLS then not booking trainees onto a local one automatically if needed, with built in study leave pre arranged, is utterly ridiculous. I’m having to go to Glasgow from Belfast because the local one was booked up by random people.

There limits on our training places and constant staffing shortages. In no small part due to the 30% pay cut we’ve had. We need to fix this and the government won’t engage.

@OcoRory Cheers Rory. It’s just daft. You can move from DGH to DGH on the other side of the country. There’s no training benefit there. Absolutely need to go to DGH/tertiary centres both but not every 6 months like this with barely any notice.
