What really gets me about covid conscious people being called "anxious" is it frames us as pathological. Like we have an abnormal reaction when really it's totally proportionate to the risk- it's not an illness its just logic-based fear. WE are not the abnormal ones.

• So many people call with unshakeable flu-like symptoms. Some have been ill for 4+ weeks straight without improving. Most at this point are demanding antibiotics and often they get them. • People with unshakeable illnesses aren't generally old or chronically ill. (2/)

They're usually 20-50 with no underlying conditions. Often they proudly tell you how fit and healthy they normally are. • Many calling with nasty coughs, fevers, body pain etc. But they can't take a GP call right now as they're at work/at a restaurant/the cinema/shopping (3/)

• Many people haven't tested for covid when you ask. • A fair number don't think it can be covid unless they lose their taste/smell. • Those that have tested, tested once on first day of symptoms and are certain that means it isn't covid. (8/)

But yes, of course theyve been ill recently. Kids are always ill. • Just as many calls for flu-like and gastrointestinal symptoms are coming through now as in the middle of winter. This stuff just isn't seasonal anymore (and is almost definitely covid in a lot of cases). (7/)

I was an NHS staff member until I got Covid early this year. I now have long covid. As I can prove I was infected at the hospital I've contacted several solicitors looking to sue. Those even willing to consider Covid cases (a minority) tell me they can't help me 1/?

They tell me I have to be able to identify who infected me or I don't have a case. This was easy in 2020/21 as staff were tested and isolating and infectious pts identified. Now, anyone in the hospital could've infected me. There's no masks and staff can work while ill. 2/?

I think people have forgotten how rare illness was before Covid. In my 7 years of high school + college I caught 0 stomach bugs. Some years I caught 0 colds. At most in one year I'd have 2 colds and I'd consider that unlucky. Constant sickness is not normal! #CovidIsNotOver

Am I glad some hospitals are bringing back mask mandates due to JN.1? Yes. Am I also still angry that they won't recognise that every Covid variant and every infection is dangerous? Yes. Am I dreading the second we pass the peak and hospitals become more unsafe again? Also yes.

@Zen_Brenda5 I'm not a doctor, so I can't give advice clinically. However, from a personal perspective I'd look into Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). It's commonly induced by Covid and can cause this.

@AndrewG76201347 Having never asked, I can't say for some. Sometimes the kids haven't even reached the age they need to be for measles vaccines etc before potential exposure. I can say that it's fairly common for vax appts to be cancelled bc the child is unwell.

@louisenewman7 I haven't come across it, no. I do believe in some cases long covid-like conditions can be caused by the vaccine, though the risk is much lower than with covid infection. My other suspicion would be that vaccination can worsen pre-existing, perhaps even subclinical long covid.

I didn't "catch Covid" Somebody gave me Covid. A person chose not to wear a mask (in a hospital!) and exhaled millions of virus particles into our shared air. The virus, which came from that person, gave me chronic neuroinflammation. This didn't just happen, it was done to me.

@Whoistherobot Did you test for up to 7 days? I can't confirm but I've seen some reports that viral load doesn't peak until day 6. Other than that, either the LFTs aren't working (some brands definitely better than others) or it was a different virus.

@MDrelichman Not that it helps in any way, but the UK is also severely restricting paxlovid. Not even all those deemed CV enough for the vaccine (which is also restricted) are eligible. There is a tiny finite list of conditions you must have or you have no chance.

If firefighters were striking for better pay but I found out every 10th cat they rescued from a tree was then thrown INTO a fire, I'd struggle to support them. In the same way, it's hard to support the current doctor strikes bc so many are actively infecting pts with SARS2.

So SARS2 increases risk of autoimmune conditions. It likely also means if you are predisposed, you will develop it earlier than without SARS2 infection. The problem with this is some drugs to treat these conditions increase in risk the longer they are taken 1/?

@PrognosticChats It's ridiculous. Even for the "it's just flu now" crowd, HCWs get an autumn flu vaccine. SARS2 is so much more deadly and disabling and now not even a booster for those of us potentially exposed daily?! They're going to (further) collapse the NHS

It's traumatising. It's soul-destorying. It changes you. In the media it would be more than enough to make a villain. But I'm expected to just shut up and let it happen? By everyone I loved, by my uni, by my own doctors? And all I can do is yell about it on the bird app. 3/3

@sonas893 Yup. I'm not the one prescribing them but I imagine it's a combination of pressure from the patients and the doctors not knowing what else to try. In some cases there could be a secondary bacterial infection so they figure it's worth a shot maybe?

Friend thanked me profusely for all this info. 3 months later her kid has been hospitalised 3 more times. In photos there's not a mask in site and they're still indoors in crowds. I feel so sorry for the kid, but I've done all I can 💔 (3/3)

You can lead a horse to water... 🧵 I noticed a few months back an old friend on fb who's kid is in and out of hospital- any resp illness at all their sats drop and they're admitted. I tentatively reached out and said they are ways that might help them get sick less often (1/)

@beansprouts_mom To me it reads that people with uncontrolled HIV are having milder symptoms. Lower CD4 count and detectable virus implies it is not adequately suppressed by antivirals in these patients. That's not to say PrEP couldn't help too, but just not what this seems to say.

@LCNMUK @carolvorders It would help if remaining NHS staff did more to fight against the removal of mask mandates in hospitals. PPE is just as necessary now as it was then and LC is still a huge risk. #KeepMasksInHealthCare

My blue badge renewal took 30 weeks to be approved, due to "exceptionally high" demand according to the council. Blue badges just get you closer, wider parking spaces. There's no money or time off work perks. Britain doesn't have a sick note culture. Britain is sick.

Struggling to have any kind of continuity with my healthcare teams as they forget convos and goals from one appt to the next. Having the same convos 3-4 times with friends and family. It's just getting insanely frustrating especially when they don't seem aware of it.

Yes, most people havent been given the info to make an informed decision about Covid. But some people DO know the science and still choose to take massive risks with their health. At what point can it be considered self harm- akin to smoking despite known risks? #wearamask

Hate that if I want to see family I have to do 10+ risk calculations to work out the best methods and times to try and not get infected by it. Meanwhile I have very elderly, frail relatives who I feel more guilty about not seeing daily. I feel like I can't win.
