Just finished set of nights as senior intensive care registrar. I don't usually do this but wanted to share my
#COVID19
experience. Its mad & nothing like anyone has seen before. I've worked on ICU for last year & this wave is worse than 1st with no signs of slowing down. 1/8
When we ask you to stay safe, it affects you more than it affects us. There is no give in the system and Im not sure where the NHS will go from here. We are putting ourselves at risk and doing our bit, all we ask is that you please do yours.
#HandsFaceSpace

LIVID 😡
Saw this post from my friend in NHS hospital. This kind of disgusting abuse some staff are subjected to is NOT acceptable. Although being escalated within Trust,
@metpoliceuk
where are consequences to protect
@NHSMillion
staff from hate crime?!?
Shared with permission
For those who say COVID is a hoax, I don't have the energy to listen to the weak arguments. I feel sorry for you as you WILL regret ever thinking this if you or a loved one sadly becomes a patient & if we get to the point of rationing supplies and making difficult decisions. 7/8
Over the weekend, the low oxygen supply alarms started alarming. This means thinking very hard and making difficult decisions about how to conserve oxygen to help as many patients as possible. Hospitals around the country are declaring major incidents because of this issue. 5/8
Thanks to those who have helped, done extra shifts & looked after loved ones before/after shifts on front line. Thanks to those complying with government guidance & social distancing. Reducing risk of transmission is our biggest weapon & helps us with our battle. 6/8
Everyone has been working so hard, putting on a brave face and really trying to keep spirits up. But I have seen more tears, frustration and exhaustion. Everyone is at breaking point. Morale is low and the workforce is burnout out and not sure how much more people can take. 2/8
Seeing so many medical colleagues testing positive for
#Omicron
😬 I'm hoping my untarnished
#COVID19
negative streak continues - 2 years and counting 🤞 Anyone else with the same record?!?
We are running out of beds, ventilators, equipment and staff. However, we dont stop caring for those who need us - we just have to work even harder but this comes at a cost. Whether its a delay to patients receiving the care they need or stretching ourselves even more thinly. 4/8
With each night shift, we have been stretching ourselves uncomfortably thinner. Our ICU nurses who usually work 1:1 nurse: patient ratio are now stretching themselves even more and being asked to cope with up to 3 of the sickest patients in the hospitals. 3/8
Ahhhhhh brother we meet again...
He covered the wards as a long day shift at
@LNWH_NHS
for the
#JuniorDoctorsStrike
and I'm covering the night shift on ICU 🙌🏻
Not sure if it was the long day or being forced to pose for **another** photo that has made him look so unimpressed 😂
Welllllllll I've had less eventful days I suppose.... 🥰
FINALLY completed my training in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine 🥳🥳🥳
Its been a good week and nice to have a bit of normality during an odd time!

Completed 1st ICU consultant ward round yesterday during which I lost 2 pens, 2 hair clips, a hairband, my charger and a bit of my sanity. By the end of the day, I found all except my sanity - if found please return 🙏

Today we sadly lost my beloved grandmother Amal 💔
She was the sweetest person & the kindest of souls. The world has lost a very special person. She was loved by all & will be missed by many. May she rest in peace 🙏
Please pray for her & have our family in your thoughts ❤️
Good luck to junior docs rotating today - I know this image has done its rounds quite a few times but a giggle for those sitting through induction. Sitting through my 14th hospital trust induction. More a reflection of short rotations rather than being that old 😂
Prepare as many Nightingale surge hubs you like but you won't be able to staff them. Shortage of healthcare workers & ones working are burnt out. Immense amount of pressure due to poor funding of NHS. System on its knees & govt MUST be held accountable for watching it fail 😔😠😡
Thank you to our health workers working tirelessly on the frontline to deliver for patients every day.
Nightingale surge hubs will help prepare us for any scenario but I urge everyone to
#GetBoostedNow
- to help ensure these hubs do not have to be used.
Officially an end of an era! 😢

If most AGPs are not AGPs should we revisit Trust guidance about this? Should Trusts allow supraglottic airway removal in recovery for green pathway rather than in theatre?
If anyone takes ANYTHING away, it's this: a capnograph trace is *STILL* seen in cardiac arrest. Capnography is gold standard at tracheal intubation and must be available.
No capnography trace = likely oesophageal intubation
