Keeping Charlie as the face of Sauron is a masterstroke. Now every time we look into this villain's eyes... we won't be able to unsee the "hero" that Sauron sees in himself. Every villain is the hero of their own story, but it's never been pulled off quite like this.
5 SEASON ARC THEORY
So now we know, the rings are made in poem order. But I think it's more than that.
Like the books, the elves still forge the 3 in secret, as a means of opposing Sauron (though only Galadriel knew), using his knowledge but changing his 1/5
Tolkien's Letter 64 remains forever relevant:
"The utter stupid waste of war, not only material but moral and spiritual, is so staggering to those who have to endure it. And always was (despite the poets), and always will be (despite the propagandists)..." 1/6
I don't care if it's silly and bordering on a "Radagast gives Gandalf his staff" prequel cliche... if Tom Bombadil gives the Stranger one of his hats.... one of his BLUE hats... I will CHEER.
People will complain about TROP's hair, make up and costumes then post a photo of some of the most beautiful and stunning hair, make up and costume design anyone has ever seen

Of all the changes Jackson made in his films I think I like the Faramir changes the least. I'm reading The Window on the West and The Forbidden Pool now, and I find it so unnecessary that Jackson felt the need to alter the context and characterisation of this entire section, 1/4
"Nobody cares about rings of power" all 8.6 million of those views represent at least a level of interest, and many of those people, whether they're haters, fans or just curious people, are going to watch it. Those are the facts.
There's a reason I try to avoid the wall-run mechanic when I can... sometimes instead of sticking him to the wall it just launches Gollum to his death. Truly a very glitchy game...

I like how when Sutekh is imprisoned he's incredibly dangerous and able to control minds and immobilise people but when he's out of his prison and at full power he's not able to do any of that to Ruby fast enough to stop her from tying a rope on him.
Tolkien never said or wrote that. The irony of you clowns is you heavily editorialise / warp a Tolkien quote for your own political agenda, yet you claim that's what we do. You call us evil and then you commit the exact crime you project onto us. Try looking in the mirror.
This quotation goes so hard. Tolkien is incredibly based for pulling this one out. One of my favorite responses to "What is your book about?"
Tolkien, straight-faced, voice like iron: "Death."
My favourite though is that famous video interview where Tolkien pulls a piece of paper from his pocket and reads a quote from Simone de Beauvoir, a well-known queer woman, an existentialist feminist, to explain the essence and the main theme behind his own works 5/9

idiot whinging about rings of power in the comments and saying "this is so much truer to tolkien" is immediately going to turn on it as soon as she does something cool.
I'm so fascinated by the distinction between Morgoth and Sauron and how Tolkien is saying that Sauron was a more complex being, with a deeper connection to Arda, whereas Morgoth was too self-obsessed. Rings of Power has already done Sauron so much justice.
I never really moved on from Galadriel's Forodwaith look. Everything about it and the way the lighting environment compliments it. The way it was our first proper glimpse at her character. How she punched a hole in the ice with her gauntlet. You all moved on. I stayed here.
remember when larger fandom use to imagine sauron as a boring self serious dark lord who never smiled and then Charlie Vickers came along and changed everything
I have no doubt now that Charlie will be our Sauron for all five seasons, even when he loses his beautiful form, I bet they will have Charlie performing him under make up or with motion capture. They know they have a great actor and they want to use him.
This passage from Unfinished Tales is probably the inspiration for Rings of Power's whole first season. Sauron placating Galadriel, and her being forced to "let the work proceed" for the good of the elves (becoming complicit in his lie) is a really interesting read of the text.
Reminder that when Amazon bought the rights to lord of the rings and the hobbit, they could've made an aragorn spin off or a gollum movie or something boring like that. Instead we are getting Annatar.
One thing I really appreciate about what Charlie Vickers does here is that he doesn't entirely drop the character he built with Halbrand and just become a different person. The cocky little "you need me" is very Halbrand, revealing that Hal was really just an aspect of Sauron.
"In him she perceived a darkness that she hated and feared, though she did not perceive that the shadow of the same evil had fallen upon the minds of all the Noldor, and upon her own."
- Unfinished Tales
Tell me something you loved about The Rings of Power and tag it, so we can get some positivity going 💕
I love all the characters, they're *all* likeable. The cinematography is stunning. The soundtrack is lush.

You know what I've noticed? It's The Eye but they're doing it in a way where it's not really feeling like an explicit homage to the pj movies, it feels like its own thing.
“He [Sauron] perceived at once that Galadriel would be his chief adversary and obstacle, and he endeavoured therefore to placate her, bearing her scorn with outward patience and courtesy.”
Hmm do I want a badly written computer generated ps2 character that shares barely anything in common with the books or do I want someone who feels like he could actually be a real person and who's faithful to the books hmmm wow this is so hard wow I'm really struggling here
Can we talk about how through the power of acting and sheer range charlie vickers is capable of feeling (and, somehow, LOOKING) like an entirely different person, one a handsome roguish hero, the other a literal demonic entity
(10/13)
He can get as close as he wants, act sexy and flirtatious, or he can put on the puppy eyes. But all of it is just a mask. What we saw in the end was underneath that mask the whole time. He didn't change from good to evil overnight.

Galadriel sets out from Lindon with Elrond and original character Elves played by Calam Lynch, Selina Lo, and Oliver Alvin-Wilson. They encounter Barrow-wights in a forest, and we see Oliver's character being dragged away. as Galadriel chases after him.

Consistent with how season 1 mixed things up... I believe the entire show will be that way. The timeline isn't just compressed, it's happening in an order that works better for the dramatic arc of the character's journeys. A lot of folk won't like that, but I'm all for it. 5/5
@Jbandos
If you look carefully in A New Hope you'll notice a guy called Luke Skywalker. This is an Easter egg and a subtle reference to Anakin Skywalker.
Reminder that Galadriel, Celeborn, Celebrimbor AND EVEN ELROND all refused to destroy the three rings when they had the chance. But when Isildur can't destroy the one then suddenly he gets all the blame for being a selfish mortal.
Every element of The Rings of Power comes from Tolkien's lore and I'd argue it can all be defended on that basis. Even the risks they took were inherently Tolkienian.. But at the end of the day all art is interpretive, you'll get nowhere saying your subjective view is "right".
I know because of rights and all that merch is not really possible, but I would love to know what merch you would have loved to see accompany S1 and what would be on your list for S2 (will come back to this after the show comes out!)?
"A recurring motif in mythology centers around a king’s failing health leading to a sickness in the land that endangers the entire kingdom," the showrunners tease of this storyline. "Season 2 sees a fractured relationship between King Durin and his son take on a similar larger
Shadow of War literally made Isildur one of the 9 ringwraiths and explained the fiery eye of Sauron by revealing it was a void in which Celebrimbor and Sauron were trapped together fighting eachother eternally 💀💀💀
Mind you Shadow of War mixed timelines, characters, CONCEPTS and THEMES that don't align with Tolkien, made Shelob a sexy woman who had an affair with Sauron and brought back Celebrimbor as a vengeful blue ghost with a twangy voice that forged a "New Ring" as powerful as the One
“Kristian Milstead, our production designer, had the idea of incorporating a star map on his ceiling to connect Tom with the larger universe, and indicate that he has been watching the constellations for signs—and for the Stranger’s arrival.”

I agree with the sentiment that The Rings of Power is "fan fiction", it just so happens to be the best fanfiction ever made. Fan fiction isn't a dirty word.
The Hobbit and LOTR is kinda just Beowulf fan fiction, y'know?
of many of these moments for the sake of giving him an "arc"... but the arc does nothing to add to Frodo's journey, besides him and Sam wandering aimlessly around Osgiliath for a bit. Thank goodness for Sam's speech. That was some genius writing that really saved the film. 4/4
